Join forces with other Barons of Havenwick and defeat evil Razaroth before it’s too late in this exciting follow up to Shrouded Tales: The Spellbound Land! But firstly you will have to reveal Razaroth’s true identity! He was put in jail in Volarden long ago and guarded by his brother, a great magician. But then Razaroth’s shadows freed him from his chains; sneaky he attacked brother, imprisoned him instead of himself and uses his shapeshifting ability to look exactly like him! So now Razaroth is ruling the Volarden and his shadows punishing everyone trying to stop his reign. You, Archibald, Alexander and your mother Elizabeth will have to use all your talents to defeat him and restore order! Whether you ignore the graphic effects or your whole existence is devoted to design and graphics of Hidden Object, Adventure computer games, you can't stay indifferent to the tremendous videosequence of Shrouded Tales 2: Revenge of Shadows. In this edition there are undreamt-of tasks for you as you go on your main mission. Even though the use of an amulet is a repeated theme from similar adventures, this epic game is truly an atmospheric experience I enjoyed from the commencement to the galvanic conclusion. I highly recommend both!!! Show less

I wrote a CE review and bought the CE. I have not changed my mind from when I said, in that review, "I will get the CE for this game because there is a bonus and also the ability to replay mini games and HOS. There don’t seem to be collectibles or morphing objects or achievements, but that’s OK with me because I don’t care about those things, anyway. The game is entertaining, and there are enough useful features for me to buy the CE."
Briefly, two other things:
1) If an object seems non-responsive and you can't let go of it, right click and it will go back to the inventory.
2) The story seems a bit confused to me, but just go with it. It's a fun game.
I think the puzzles are great and HOS are different, so I really think that paying extra for the ability to play them over is a good value. Play the demo and see if you agree. I suggest that you buy one or the other, whatever you do. Show less

There is a jump-map, which is absolutely necessary for all except the hard-core players. There's tons of jumping around to different scenes. The hint/ skip recharges at a good rate. The mini-games were mainly run of the mill, nothing really new or inventive.
One must remember the 'amulet'. It's the key to this game. You will be constantly using it, or trying to recharge it.
Overall, this is a good straight-forward HOS. I'd recommend it for all levels of gamers. Since there are so many scenes, the re-play value is good, I'd say a couple of times a year. Show less

Veronica Ellard is a self-taught plane walker who freed the people of Havenwick from an impenetrable dome surrounding their city for nearly 20 years! Now she has been asked by the Order of Barons to help the neighboring city of Volarden who has fallen victim to the Shadows, the same evil that imprisoned Havenwick. The Baron's motto, when in the darkness, we are the light. As the Shadow's fall, we light the fire. When evil attacks, we burn with hope. Veronica must spread the light of the Baron's upon the Shadow shrouded city of their brethren before the evil that has pitted brother against brother, casts it's darkness forevermore!
Your mother, a member of the Order as well, has given you a powerful Amulet that stores collected spells during your quest. Each time the Amulet is used to cast a spell, it becomes stronger and more powerful. Restora repairs broken objects, Combusta creates a small flame, Germina makes plants grow and Electra charges objects with electricity. Once you arrive in Volarden, you will find the Scroll of Secrets, that shows useful information about Volarden and it's residents. In the Collector's Edition, it also reveals 30 hidden rune symbols, one in each scene, as well as the addition of several Achievements to earn. The city also has a portal that when activated, allows you to walk between the real world and a parallel universe which is basically the same place, only darker. You will have to travel back and forth, using items from one parallel in the other and vice versa.
The Hidden Object Scenes have several types available, with a unique feature that requires you to use some of the inventory items you have collected within the scene by switching between the inventory tab and the objects tab. There are FROG's which is several fragmented object pieces to find, and interactive list finds as well. Some of the HOS are repeated, which is a major downfall in my opinion, it's boring a second time around and I cannot figure out why they do this!
Hope you love Mini Games because there are a lot of em, and to me, this is the feature that makes or breaks the game. Whenever you find a new symbol that allows you to repair your broken amulet (yes, they always break after the first use) you play a mini game. The same game is repeated each time, but it gets more complicated as you progress. There are several red masks that must be turned yellow using 2 or three copper symbols with specific directional arrows, to cover all of the masks in each direction. Other puzzles requires you to use magnets to either repel or attract gems into their correct slots, another requires you to drag red stars with lines connecting each red star across every blue star to light them all up. One of my favorite puzzles was putting all blue tokens on the left and all red tokens on the right, using arms on each row and column to nudge each token one space at a time. All of the puzzles are doable, some of them are just more time consuming than others.
The Collector's Edition has 5 Soundtracks and Videos, 12 Concept Art pictures, 6 Wallpapers in the Art Gallery, 30 Hidden Runes, 20 Mini Games, 17 Hidden Object Puzzles, 20 Achievements, a built in Strategy Guide and a Bonus Chapter, enjoy! Show less

Hello friends! I have attached the summary of my original review of the CE version of this game. If I don't care for the CE, I always give the SE a try and frequently prefer and purchase the SE. That said, this game just doesn't excite me at all. I have the first one and liked it as an SE, but this one is just too simple and too quiet. I'm sure there are others who will find this one fun, but for a "seasoned" gamer, it just wasn't for me.
"I liked the first game in this series, but this one is far too simple and has no real challenge or excitement. Personally, I feel that this game is geared more toward a "new" beginner who just needs to get the feel of a game before moving into something more challenging. I will recommend this game for beginners, or for someone who just wants to play a no brainer game, which I sometimes do, but not for the more. I do not feel this game is CE worthy without some very nice collectibles and a bit more challenge. "
As always, try it for yourself and see what you think. We all have different tastes in games and you may find this one to be exactly what you are looking for today. Thanks for the reviews. Show less

I guess I'm spoiled by extra options. 1. Frustrated when the cursor cannot be changed to "system" type; the lag of the game cursor is very annoying. 2. That you cannot 'customize' your player; quicker hints, quicker 'skip' options, etc. OTHERWISE, the graphics were awesome! If you don't mind/can accept these 2 options listed above, then you will enjoy this game.

You arrive in a seemingly deserted part of town and almost immediately break your magic amulet.. Luckily you have an innate ability to shift into Shadow lands. There you find aids to your dilemma in the real world, including a machine that repairs your amulet one tiny bit at a time. So you travel back and forth and back and forth and back and forth and back and forth.....
Good stuff: Nice cartoon style artwork, HOPs that occasionally use an inventory item, OK mini-games, and passable music and VOs.
Bad Stuff: Did I mention the back and forth? Then there is the story line, a good bit of which is given away in the intro rather than unfolded in the game-play. There are only three levels of difficulty. And I never found anything collectible or morphing, even as I went back and forth.
There was opportunity missed as this could have been a great game if there had been something more going on in the Shadow land as a parallel but separate adventure to the real world. As it is, you just pop into a static scene, pick up what you need, and leave, only to return.
Please try this demo for yourself. As usual, I can't recommend what I will not purchase.

Based On Completed Game
I enjoyed the first Shrouded Tales game so I had high hopes for this one. What a disappointment. For me, it was all downhill after the demo.
We need to use our "magic", or spells, as well as some of our regular inventory items in the HOPs. I thought there would some nice complexity there, but they got much simpler, and downright boring, after the demo.
Our "spell chips" need to be replaced several times. Each time, a token must be found, placed in a "pylon", and a series of mini-games, increasing in difficulty, have to be completed before the spell chip is restored .
Another layer of complexity is added because there is a "dark side" that must be accessed to find the pylons. Other needed items will also be found in that dimension. This started out as a good idea but, again, after the demo, it seemed we had to do it in practically every scene. WAY OVERUSED. The gameplay had quite a bit of "repairing" of machines, etc. Trying to figure out how to repair fantasy technology was frustrating and...you got it...confusing.
Mini-games/puzzles started out ok but ended up being average. Some required some thought but I never had to use the strategy guide to complete them.
There are only three difficulty levels, none are customizable. I played the demo in "casual" mode so I can tell you the hints refill quickly.
Jump map was easy to use which ends up being very important with all the overuse of the back and forth, light and dark worlds.
The story? It started out as a bit complex and ended up being a confused mess. No time to give it much thought because the gameplay created enough confusion all by itself.
I got the CE version of this game, and I regret it. The bonus game was more confusing than the main game. The "secret scroll" that was used to find the collectible runes malfunctioned, which added to the confusion.
The only joy that I experienced with this game was getting to the end of it.
If you want to play a Shrouded Tales I would recommend the first one, The Spellbound Land. It was interesting and FUN, which, for me, this one was NOT.
Hope YOU find some fun today. Happy gaming. Show less
