What begins as an investigation of an unusual murder suddenly turns into something much more sinister in Chimeras 2: The Signs of Prophecy Standard Edition Game. The latest masterpiece of Elephant Games!!! [I love this developer] When an unexpected solar eclipse covers the streets of Munich with darkness, doom arrives and it looks like it isn’t going to end any time soon! You are called there to investigate the murder of Julia Mobius and find out, that she was killed in a desperate attempt to prevent a beast’s awakening. His name is Wanderer and he can destroy the entire city! Julia was one of four keepers of the prophecy concerning his arrival, and her murderer leaves a carving “Burn, traitor” near her burned body. According to the prophecy he has a great power. This power may be used towards creation or destruction, and YOU will inflict his choice. You are intertwined with the Wanderer by the thread of Fate, at least that’s what Prophecy foretold. There were four Keepers of the Prophecy - Julia Mobius, Sebastian Mayer, Walter Lucien and Max Langen. Maybe one of the other three killed Julia because she was trying to change fate? Put your mind to the test in this brain bender and find out why Julia betrayed the other prophecy keepers in this dramatic Adventure Puzzle Hidden Object! I found this story incredible, I just couldn't stop playing. Excellent graphics, voice overs, and perplexing puzzles and inventory use kept me going hours and hours. Demo this for yourself and decide. I think most will be really surprised by this continuing saga.... Show less

The game is set in Munich and, yes, you are a detective whose assistance is requested, particularly since you are well-versed in strange phenomenon. As you prepare to enter Munich you encounter a fortune teller who informs you that your fate is connected to the Wanderer. Your paths are intertwined and you will direct him to either creation or destruction. The signs are indeed ominous with the longest eclipse in history overshadowing the city. When you meet with Herr Lehmann you find him investigating the case of a young woman who was incinerated in her very own carriage. Hmmm, this is truly an interesting beginning for the new Chimeras game.
The game offers four modes of gameplay: Casual, Advanced, Hardcore, and Custom. In the custom mode you can set the hint and skip buttons to recharge in a range of 15 to 90 seconds. In the custom mode I also appreciate that I can turn off the tutorial.
Although the graphics are extremely good the artistic style seems different than in the first Chimeras game. The lip-synced voiceovers are okay but aside from the fortune teller in the beginning of the game, it is rather odd that for a game set in Munich the accents are certainly not Germanic.
Your tools include the interactive transporter type map and there is also a diary that keeps track of information you acquire during the game.
The HOPs are varied in style and the types I encountered during the demo were traditional list, find items by silhouette, and find items by the highlighted words in a story. However, only the list type had minimal interaction required. It seemed like there were more HOPs than puzzles but there was one super puzzle at the end of the demo.
The first Chimeras game was absolutely one of my favorite all time games and I am not sure this one can compete. Of course one of the things that made the first game outstanding was the song played during the introduction, and we aren't treated to anything that spectacular as this game opens. The storyline in The Signs of Prophecy becomes more interesting as the game progresses and by the end of the demo I was hooked. I was captured by the mystery of trying figure out exactly who the Wanderer might be. Is he a hero or a villain? I am sure we will find out as we play this wonderful new game from the Mammoth team. Even though it quickly became evident that this is a game I had to have, I recommend that you try the demo to see if this is a game you will enjoy. Show less

Graphics are more old school than some might enjoy. Music was fun. Voice overs were well done and the sound fx were awesome.
Casual, Advanced, Hardcore and Custom difficulties.
Journal for notes and a transportable map. The map seemed a bit confusing (and large ... very large) so I tried to refrain from using it. Just my opinion.
HOGs varied from finding pairs, silhouettes, interactive lists and no alternate game if you prefer. Mini Games were waaay fun and some were waaay hard - lol.
Nice storyline that flows well. I had a great time playing the game because there weren't a lot of 'gadgets' to take away from the game play. I would recommend it for any level of difficulty.
Oh, btw, I loved it so much I purchased the CE. IMO it was definitely CE worthy.

The Prophecy has begun in Munich, the skies have darkened with an unexplained solar eclipse, and Chimeras have come to life. Soon the waters will darken, the trees will wither and die, and the Wanderer foretold by the four Keepers of the Prophecy, will be exposed. It's no coincidence that you are here, Detective, you play an important role in this apocalyptic transformation! The path you choose will determine the Wanderer's path, you can direct him towards the path of creation, or destruction, there will be darkness, but, a light hides within the darkness, it's up to you Detective, to save us all!
You can always count on Chimeras to deliver us a fantastic story! The graphics and ambience are perfect for this "end of days" scenario, and exactly what you'd expect during an unexpected and unexplained total eclipse, where uncertainty and a sense of uneasiness prevail, where speculations run wild and panic ensues. The star of this show is the Chimera, once a slab of stone representing a mythical Greek monster, has now come to life! This creature has the head and front legs of a lion, the head and back legs of a goat the head and wings of a fire breathing dragon and the tail of a snake. The only defense you'll have against this Chimera is an Ancient Amulet (because there is no such thing as a Modern Day Amulet) you discovered that repels any living statue. There are Plus Sign inventory items available that require some type of interaction or even a small puzzle to be solved before the item can be used. The Collector's Edition has the typical Achievements to earn and several Collectibles, 13 Tarot Cards to find, 19 Morphing Chimeras, and 27 random Morphing Objects throughout the game. I was a little disappointed in the Morphing Objects, although the cursor doesn't change to a hand to give away their location, the Morphs are very large and morph so quickly that you cannot overlook them. I prefer Morphs to change slowly, better yet I like it when games are nonlinear and you have to trigger the morphing action in another scene, never knowing when and what triggers the action, that's so much more challenging and fun.
The Hidden Object Scenes are a bit scarce, but I suspect that the devs realize that the HOP are getting old, and today's gamers want more Mini Games and puzzles. There are traditional Interactive listed items, Silhouetted Shape finds and Story oriented finds where you find items that match the Keywords in a small story. Not bad, but then again, there's not a whole lot that can be changed in a Hidden Object Puzzle.
The Mini Games are decent, but not very challenging, most games can be solved within the first attempt. I'll briefly "describe" some of the games within the demo:
1) Sliding gears and boxes around so that the gears on the inside will connect to the gears on the outside.
2) Changing the amount of liquid within several bottles as shown on a diagram.
3) Pressing cash register buttons a specific number of times as shown as roman numeral clues.
4) Swap Books to create an image on the spines.
5) Swap feathers on an owl correctly.
6) A multi puzzle game where you tinker with 4 different types of puzzles, lighting all lights, removing tangled bars, finding matching pairs, and creating 3d images with stars.
The Collector's Edition has 18 Wallpapers, 16 Concept Art pictures, 5 Music Soundtracks, 1 Screensaver, 13 Tarot Cards, 19 Morphing Chimeras, 27 Morphing Objects, Achievements, a Secret Room, a built in Strategy Guide and a Bonus Adventure, enjoy! Show less

=The puzzles are fun, HOPs average
=There are morphing objects that CE reviewers seemed to like, and tarot cards, and achievements, though I'm not interested in those so I cannot evaluate them for you.
But
=Reviewers of the CE seemed to think it was short
=I'm not too clear why this detective can solve a magical eclipse with monsters, and I guess that's why I didn’t truly get sucked in to the game
=People talked an awful lot and then stood around and didn’t leave
=Though there is a "secret room" and I don't know what's in there, It doesn’t appear have all the bells and whistles for a CE because there’s no ability to play puzzles and HOP’s over
Being short and lack of replayable puzzles makes this is a good candidate for the SE rather than the CE. Also, it did not make me lose track of time because I was not that immersed in the world.
I think you will have enough fun to buy one or the other, though. Try it and see. Show less

I would have liked more HOS and fewer puzzles. Unlike a previous reviewer, I do like HOS, and I definitely don't want more puzzles and mini games. Being able to shorten the skip times to 15 seconds helped. The HOS in this game are of a variety and not so difficult that younger or less experienced players wouldn't enjoy them. Show less

This was a good HO title. Fun to play and with good puzzles. The story was ok, but the player's "reason" for finding the Wanderer really didn't seem to fit. You don't have to keep the Wanderer from "the dark side." I like that there was a map so you don't have to back track.

The developers of this game must be under a great deal of pressure to turn out new games because this one appears to have been phoned in. The game was short, the puzzles extremely easy (on Advanced play), and the story was uninspired. Absolutely nothing new in this game. I only gave it three stars because it looked nice, everything worked, and I was entertained for a few hours.
