The story is very well told, moves on nicely, leaves you time to take in the scenery and appreciate it.
The HO scenes left me in awe, there are so many great details. The items fitted the environment perfectly, no single safety pin spotted!
Most mini-games were on the easy side, but all well designed and very enjoyable.
The main game is completed, the Bonus Chapter was a nice addition.
The same attention and love had gone into the BC as to the main game.
I enjoyed every single moment of the game and recommend it without any reservations!

REVIEW BASED UPONTHE ENTIRE GAME
4 Chapters plus a Bonus Chapter – Strategy Guide: 36 Pages
OVERVIEW: Up and away you go to partake in an exciting adventure in Polynesia.! Travel by balloon to Tahiti to help Princess Hina from the island of Raiatea. Help her regain a magical ocarina, stolen by her jilted, obsessed lover, Hiro. This special musical instrument calms a monster slumbering beneath the ground of this island. According to the island myth, the princess must play a lullaby nightly on this ocarina to keep the monster subdued. Failure to do so will cause him to awaken in a rage with dire consequences for the island. Now that the ocarina has been stolen, the monster could awaken at any moment! Travel to Hiro’s island, Huahine, recapture the ocarina and the princess’ pearls. May the elementals of earth, water, fire, and wind guide you on your adventure.
OPINION: EIPIX has finally departed Europe, venturing out to other parts of the world. This is a beautiful game with incredibly gorgeous graphics portraying the beauty of the Polynesian islands. The bright tropical colors splashed against a background of aqua blue waters is a refreshing break from the purples, pinks and dark colors from many of their other games. The myth is a beautiful tale explaining the history of a volcano and the origin of its violent eruptions. The pace is excellent with plenty of activities to keep the player engaged. Enjoy the island ambiance while listening to some calming, tropical background music. This is one game I heartily recommend!
MECHANICS: There are the usual four (4) levels of play including a customized version. There are thirteen (13) achievements. Collect thirty (30) types of sea creatures plus twenty (20) morphing objects. There are eight (8) wallpapers plus the usual casual art along with music and video selections. At the end of the game, return to game scenes to recover fifteen (15) souvenir items (Polynesian cultural items) to place in your souvenir room as mementos of your time in Polynesia. I found the collectibles easy to locate. You can replay twenty-one (21) puzzles and seventeen (17) HOP scenes.
GIMMICKY SHELL. You get a shell encrusted with pearls. Every time you need to summon an elemental (wind, fire, water, earth), you must play a matching game. Symbols are hidden under the pearls.
BONUS CHAPTER: It is a sequel. Princess Hina is holding a competition called “The Great Challenge in the Crypts of the Elements,” to find a suitable mate. Play a suitor who will overcome all obstacles and tests by the elementals to win her hand in marriage. The chapter is an excellent addition to his game. The quality is as good as the main game with quite a few puzzles and HOP scenes as well.
HOP SCENES: There are twenty-one (21) HOP scenes in the entire game. Some of the scenes are breathtaking! They are thematic and vary in style. As usual, EIPIX provides two-step scenes in which you must first search for items in silhouette and then search for a list of items. All the scenes are either lists of items or silhouette. Most are creatively designed and interactive. You have the option to play a Skipping Stones puzzle in lieu of the scenes.
UNIQUE NEW HOP SCENE: There is a scene which I have never seen before. The backdrop for the scene is a three-ring wheel which must be rotated to align symbols from each ring. At the bottom are the combinations of the symbols on all three wheels which you must remove. Very creatively designed.
PUZZLES: There are thirty-three (33) puzzles within the game. Most of the puzzles are of middle difficulty. There is a matching puzzle played four (4) times to summon an elemental god – one each for earth, wind, fire and water. I loved playing the puzzles except for one which involves playing a drum which appears three (3) times. It requires nothing more than choosing between two “notes,” and following a given script. It is ridiculously easy, and I wonder why EIPIX threw this puzzle into the mix. Other than this rather strange puzzle, the rest are excellent.
SPOILERS: HERE ARE SOME OF THE PUZZLES AFTER THE DEMO:
A. Tangram puzzle. Place tangram pieces of a net back into position to restore the net
B. Maze puzzle. Lead a fish through currents until it reaches the other side of the maze. Avoid obstacles. There are whirlpools throughout the maze which whisk you to other locations or completely out of the maze, at which time, you must start over.
C. Sequence puzzle. Place sea life into slots according to their ranking on the food chain.
D. Spin your wheels! Spin three circles to ignite all of them on fire making certain they are all lit at the same time.
E. Sequence puzzle. Clever puzzle in which you play an ocarina by choosing finger positionings which match up with sine wave patterns. Each segment of the sine wave corresponds to the holes on the ocarina. 3X
BONUS CHAPTER:
F. Assembly puzzle. Push on nine (9) squares in a grid which changes their size until they all combine size-wise to restore the image of a tree.
G. Maze puzzle. In a maze split in half, move a token within each half of the maze so that each reaches its destination point. The two tokens must be moved at the same time.
H. Sliding tiles puzzle. Slide slats with openings and maneuver each of three flames so they drop down three levels landing on a torch of the same color.
I. Maze puzzle. On a maze with water dripping down, choose three plugs within the maze which, when removed, will allow the water to flow from the top to the bottom.

It has 4 modes of play. I play the Custom so I can choose just what I want. There are collectibles and morphs to find, and it has characters that talk to you, which I think really makes a game more enjoyable. It has a variety of mini games. Some I haven't seen before, so that's always a good thing. All in all I found this game very enjoyable and I'll no doubt play it again sometime. Show less

My actual rating for this CE is a 3.5 and I think the SE deserves the 4.0 because I liked the beginning of the game better and wish this game had better bonus content.
The main portion of the game took me 3 hours
Bonus play took me 36 minutes (I skipped most the MG, so it would take most people longer).Total Gameplay for CE was 3hr 36 min.
I loved the demo to this game. I loved the beautiful blue green water, one scene more beautiful than the next, the moving fish, the calming music and the game play. But my overall opinion of this game, in a seashell, is if you don’t like the demo you probably won’t like this game as a whole. I felt the demo was the best chapter in this game.
Chapter 3 has a beautiful waterfall and lagoon area. Aside from the scene at the beginning with the cool sharks the lagoon was my 2nd favorite spot of the game. I didn’t mind the gadget seashell; which is a match game. It’s only used a total of about once a chapter. It is not used in the bonus play. I did not like the fantasy aspect of this game. They didn’t need to add the stupid Lava man or fantasy earth, wind, fire, and water characters either. I thought the storyline was absurd.
Thankfully, they are only seen when you use the shell so you don’t see them much more in the game compared to the demo.
Also, there is another great tiered type HOP in Chapter 3 where you are swimming under the water in a lagoon with moving fish, etc. It was so fun, and you feel like you are actually in the water! I also liked a couple of the MG in the demo (game related type), with the balloon and the zip line.
I will outline below the CE content, and what opens when, and what it does. Most of the extra content will only open after you have completed the bonus play. I wish the dev. would give us all the bonus content up front. If you pay twice as much for the CE I want the CE content accessible without having to complete the game again.
*******POTENTIAL SPOILERS******* I mention what unlocks in Extras…
1. WTG/Strategy Guide: 36 pg. (32 pages of gameplay and 4 pages of other) Chap.1/demo/Village =8pg, Chap.2-Dock=6pg, Chap.3-Treasury=6pg, Chap.4-Crypt=5p,
and Bonus Chap= 7pg.
2. CUTSCENES: There are only 8 in the game. Two are in bonus play. They are kept in the extras area to re-watch, and not in a notebook, in-game, like we see from some other dev. (which I prefer). This game didn’t need a notebook anyway. The story was too light and all the pick-up notes looked exactly alike on brown parchment. There were no news articles because the year is 1700 something.
3. REPLAY some MG & HOP: You can replay 21 MG (but I’m sure the game has more) There are 17 HOP to replay. When playing them in extras though, they are timed, have an accuracy %, and you can earn 3 gold cups each HOP.
4. MUSIC- 7 tracks can be DL to your Doc. file. The music is relaxing, with a lot of harps. I noticed at the beginning it looped a lot and for the most part turned it way down to hear environmental sounds.
5. CONCEPT ART & WALLPAPERS: The concept art has 3 black & white sketches- and 3 pictures of characters in different phases of dev. (concept art can’t be saved). There are 8 wallpapers x4 sizes that can be saved to the Doc. file. They don’t auto save to the desktop as wallpaper; you have to open them in the Doc. file first.
6. Collectibles & MORPS: The combos of 30 starfish, seahorses, and turtles you collect have a page. You can go back and get any you missed. The morphs you collect also have their own page but it’s bland; you can go back for any missed on those too.
7. SOUVENIER ROOM: It has its own page. You re-visit 15 scenes to find an item.
8. SKIPPING STONES: This is a drag type M3 with pretty bad instructions. You need to hold the left mouse and drag to connect them- you can also connect diagonally. There is more to this game that I won’t go into but I gave up on it rather quickly.
9. BONUS CHAPTER: You play as the handsome villager from the main game. There isn’t much story. There are only two cut scenes that explain it- one at the beginning and one at the end and both were too short. The character interaction you have doesn’t match the storyline. You are required to save a couple of people- but I have no idea how they got in their predicaments or why I had to help them. Thankfully, lava man doesn’t re-appear. I didn’t like the bonus play and hit hint a lot. Needless to say, I did it in record time (36 min.). I skipped almost all the minigames. They are the gadget/fiddle type and I just prefer the game related type such as doing the zip line in the demo. Bonus play felt really rushed to me.
There are a total of 9 areas of gameplay in the bonus play. 6 areas are old and we saw them in the main game. Only 3 areas are new. Scenes 1-7 didn’t have any morphs or collectibles but 8 and 9th had maybe one or two total. I counted 9 more MG and 4 HOP (one is in a zoom window).
The matching shell gadget is not used in bonus play.
There are 13 basic Achievements to earn that are located in the Menu.
Normally, I won’t buy a CE unless it has a Screensaver (not just wallpapers). The bonus content here was a bit unappealing but I decided to buy it with a game club sale. Chapters 1 through 3 are the best in the game and chapter 4 and bonus play fizzled for me.

Grab your hot air balloon and travel to Polynesia for this 15th game in the Myths series. As a gift from your parents for completing your studies, you are off on the adventure of a lifetime visiting the Polynesian islands. As your balloon unexpectedly crashes you find yourself in shark infested waters and only help from a young girl on an island guides you to safety.
In an effort to make the game more attractive to younger gamers, history has been thrown out the window and we are left with the EIPIX vision of how to make it work for a game. Granted in order to keep it user friendly the island population is not running mostly unclothed, and the princess or other young maidens are not being thrown into the fiery volcano to quell the rising beast. Unless the date of 1790 at the beginning of the game is wrong, I doubt that a box of matches would be traveling with our young adventurer. In spite of the anachronisms I still found the game to be an improvement over some others in the series but Of Fiends and Fairies and The Heart of Desolation are still my favorites.
The HOPS are the basic style we see in all HOPA games and you either love or hate them. As for me I did find them enjoyable even though there was nothing new or exciting. I am a HO lover and it never seems to get old even though I own 1,300 games. In Fire from the Deep, I happen to enjoy the beautiful graphics and finding the items even though some might not be too-hidden. The beauty of the colorful graphics (rather than hunting through dark and dingy scenes) is what makes the HOPS much more enjoyable for me. Congrats to EIPIX for stepping up and making some HOS that many of us will love! The PUZZLES or mini-games seem to be an improvement as well with some of them being a bit more difficult for me.

If you prefer a CE game that includes extras this one has morphing objects and collectibles to be found in each scene. The rest of the CE content is the standard and I find it to be better than some particularly since we can replay HOPS and Puzzles.
As I mentioned Of Fiends and Fairies and the Heart of Desolation are my two favorite games in the Myths series but Fire from the Deep is much better than some of the more recent offerings from this developer. Although this game has nothing to do with the true history or Myths concerning the Polynesian culture it is still a fun and entertaining game to play. If you can put aside your need for accuracy in a game and enjoy it for the entertainment value, then this is a game you will hopefully enjoy as much as I did. As always, please try the demo to see if this game is a keeper for you. Happy gaming! Show less

I cannot see why the developers think we are not intelligent enough to see that either four chapters quite short or as in some other games 6 chapters but all very short still leads to the same answer - Not a good CE
I really look forward to a CE edition as it used to be. Playing some of my older games show just what value we are now missing upon. Show less

The story line is slow and predictable. Graphis are ok. Not as good as their past games.
The setup asks if you want to see objectives; if you indicate no, it shows them anyway. Irritating.
