In the world built on the shoulders of sleeping giants, join your sister Adrianne to prevent a terrifying annihilation that may irreversibly change the world. Explore the history of a forgotten civilisation to save the citizens of Skyland and subsequently reveal the truth surrounding the mystery that lead to the death of your father.
In an outlandish steampunk world the surface of the planet has withered and died below the toxic fumes. Survivors fled and settled atop the sleeping giants. Those relics of a forgone age proved to be a source of endless energy that allowed an entire civilization to flourish again. However, something sinister looms over the Skyland. People are disappearing without trace and it seems it might be connected to your father’s tragic death. It’s up to you and your trusty crew of airship Nightingale to uncover the truth behind it. Team up with your sister Adrianne and together you will solve the mystery behind your father’s passing and see a glimpse of an ancient civilization that shaped this world. In your journey you will confront a mysterious villain; Bal the Sole and possibly face questions about the nature of life itself. Wherever your quest will lead you, Skyland will never be the same...
From Artifex Mundi; the creative developers behind hidden gems like (Kingmaker: Rise to the Throne) and (Path of Sin: Greed), comes a new out-of-this-world adventure that I thoroughly enjoyed! Skyland: Heart of the Mountain reminds me of two other Artifex Mundi games; the (Kingdom of Aurelia) and (Modern Tales), as the new wave of casual steampunk adventures comes to BFG.
I'm an avid fan of steam punk themed games and my hope is that more of these kinds of HOP adventures will be offered to game club members in the future. I thought Skyland: Heart of the Mountain had a lot of redeeming qualities... Firstly, as “standard” as its game mechanics are, the game is inarguably well-built and offers an extremely smooth and consistent experience the whole way through. In addition, the production aspects are really on-point and the sharp graphics, breathtaking animations, and effective soundtracks are essential in maintaining the momentum of the game.
That said, some players may find an emotional distance feeling throughout the game, particularly since the gameplay is somewhat predictable. The hidden object scenes and the puzzles are not all that innovative and the special gauntlet gadget doesn't leave much of an impression. Overall these were minor flaws in the game for me because I love steam punk. So if you're looking for a casual game within this genre, I encourage folks to give this one a demo. In terms of length of gameplay...it took me around 3 to 4 hours to blast through to the conclusion. You may also consider using a free "game coupon" for this one too. Cheers! Show less
I recommend this game!

REVIEW FROM COMPLETED GAME AND BONUS
I liked this steam punk game and I felt like a bloke tinkering around in the garage. The main game is about rescuing the people of Skyland after being turned into crystals.
There is:
* Voiceovers (with dialogue);
* Casual, Advanced, Expert and Custom modes;
* Interactive map.
The graphics are very good and clear to see everywhere. There are plenty of locations to visit and, if you like fixing machinery, then you are in for a treat.
Sound is good and the music is orchestral and nice to listen to.
The hidden object games are mostly straightforward and some silhouette. These are quite cluttered and a few items took me a while to find. However, I enjoyed them all and liked that they had a bit of challenge.
The mini-games are all very easy to do and I was able to get back to the game fairly quickly. However, these are great for beginners to gain experience and I enjoyed doing them again.
So do you get the CE or SE? The CE has a bonus about stopping the drones for good, 16 achievements, 22 replayable mini-games and 13 HOPs to play if you want to redo them and 29 morphing collectibles.
All up the game and bonus took me about 5 hours or so playing during the week. I enjoyed the game and wanted to play longer.
Overall, I think this game will appeal to most fishies. There is plenty to do and I was never bored.
Happy playing fishies. Show less

Skyland Heart of the Mountain is a surprisingly good game. I say surprisingly because I am not generally a fan of steam punk but I found myself absorbed in the gameplay and knew almost immediately that this was a game I would enjoy. The storyline is interesting as a family must band together to defeat an enemy that is destroying their cities.
The graphics are great and create the futuristic atmosphere for the game. The characters are well depicted and the game has excellent voice overs. I am not overly fond of gadgets and I could have easily done without Uncle Leo’s futuristic glove. I personally found the mini-game that was attached to using the glove a bit annoying but thankfully I didn’t need to use it very often.
The HOPS contain variety with some being list type while others rely on silhouettes or finding various shapes. I found none of the HOPS to be difficult and they were enjoyable. The Puzzles were not too difficult except that I disliked the one attached to the glove. By the time I finished the game I did find that there were far too many puzzles and sometimes it seemed that they were simply thrown into the game as time fillers. Although I found most of the HOPS and Puzzles to be rather middle of the road as far as challenge, I did find that I was not always sure what my next steps in the game should be and that kept the gameplay interesting.
Skyland Heart of the Mountain is for me an excellent game but that doesn’t mean that everyone will share my opinion. As I mentioned earlier, I purchased the game right away because I did enjoyed the demo and I had to keep playing. Even though the game is perfect for me, please try the demo to see if you will enjoy Skyland as well. Happy gaming! Show less

Having been away from BFG for some time, I was on the lookout for something new or by developers I tend to like. Artifex Mundi almost always fits that bill. And, since I am a big fan of steampunk, I was delighted to find this offering and bought the SE after the trial was completed. (Since all the bells, whistles, trophies, and morphing objects are not my fancy I seldom buy the CE's unless reviewers rave about the bonus game...not many of them are worth double the price of the game for me.)
Does it break any new ground or bring us a new, exciting, and different storyline or gameplay? No. But, it did bring me several hours of a comfortably familiar manner in which to pass my time. I have lots of game credits available after my hiatus, so I may as well use them on a developer whose games I tend to enjoy even when they aren't surpernaturally fantastic.
Skyland's graphics are excellent as is the game to player interface. The HOP's, puzzles, and other mini-games are typical and not overly taxing. (I do admit to skipping the games using the gauntlet...I am unable to visually track those, but others my like them just fine.) There is often a lack of explanation as you figure out what one is supposed to DO in the mini-games, but a little trial and error usually finds the solution. I come from old school text based gaming where trial and error is the ONLY way to find out things unless you go for a walk-through....so this doesn't bother me. I'm not out to play my games as fast as I can get through them.
The storyline itself is adequate...you're the hero, there's a villain, you need to save the world from that villain. It's interesting enough to read through (I turn off the sound) or listen to the dialog. You sometimes learn helpful information for the game. And, there IS a little bit of an unexpected plot twist later in the game.
There is a great deal of back and forth in the game...it's just part of the gameplay and not something I'd necessarily knock the developer for. The interactive map helps with if you are frustrated by the to and fro. Yet, I often still found myself trekking back and forth manually, mostly because I liked the graphics and because I often see something I missed the first time or two through an area.
All in all, this is a nice, solid 4 Star SE game worth the time any money spent on it. I enjoyed it and would recommend anyone who likes steampunk to at least give it the trial. Show less

Completed Demo of SE version
Toxic soils and depleted energy sources forced people to rise to the occasion. Cities were developed upon the mountainous sleeping Stone Giants whose energy source was in abundance, and the citizen's lived in peace for centuries. After receiving a distress call from a neighboring city, the Nightengale Zepplin arrives to see the horrors of the aftermath of an attack by an unknown assailant. All of the citizens have been crystallized, slowly draining them of precious energy. Now it is up to the Nightengale's crew, a family trio, Uncle Leo and his nieces, bound together after a family tragedy, to find out who is behind the vicious attacks, and just why they need human energy!
There is a Gadget, a Gauntlet that can control or disable Drones, it does require a repetitive Mini-Game, however, it is only used 4 Times throughout the 6 Main Chapters and once in the Bonus Chapter, so it's not that bad.
I preferred the CE version because each of the scenes in the Main Game has a Morphing Zepplin Airship (none within the Bonus Chapter) They morph at a good pace but were a little too large, making them fairly easy to spot, they also seem to be hidden a little more as you progress. I wish they had an option to show the availability of the morph on the Icon because some of the scenes don't have one. I was also disappointed that they didn't allow you to return to the scenes to collect missing morphs. I missed collecting one morph during the demo/buy switchover scenario because I didn't click on the morph before the cutscene of the final demo scene, and when I purchased the game it took me to Chapter 3!
POSSIBLE SPOILER FEATURE (about the CE Goats): There are 5 Goats you will come across throughout the main game. When you click on them they won't disappear because they aren't really a collectible, they are an Achievement. The Goat's do bleat when you click on them, but nothing happens until you click on the fifth and final goat and receive the G.O.A.T Award.
The Hidden Object Scenes have mostly Listed Item Finds, some of which are located within interesting scenes. A few of the locations were Repeated Scenes, but there is also Interactive List Finds, Silhouetted Shape Finds and Interactive-Progressive Silhouetted Shape Finds, There are 11 Main HOP's and 3 Silhouetted Shape Zoom Zone HOP's in the main game and 4 HOP's within the CE Bonus Chapter.
The Mini-Games (20 non-gauntlet games in the main chapters, 3 in the CE BC)) could be better and I wasn't crazy about the repetitiveness of several puzzle types back to back. The Gauntlet Gadget also has repetitive puzzles (10 gauntlet games in the main chapters, 3 in the BC) but as I said earlier, the Gauntlet is only used 4 times in the main game and once in the Collector's Edition Bonus Chapter. Below are brief descriptions of some of the more interesting mini-games offered within the complete adventure:
1-Select symbols from the right that match the symbols the arrow points to in sequence (gauntlet puzzle)
2- Steer the parachute using directional arrows to avoid obstacles.
3-Complete the images by swapping square tiles for 7 different images progressing in size.
4-Rotate valves until all arrows are within the green zones, 1 may affect other valves.
5-Rotate pipe sections to create a continuous flow.
6-Drag runes from the center to the edges so they don't overlap, they will drift to the center. (gauntlet puzzle)
7-Rotate fuses until all arms of the fuses are connected to identical colors.
8-Select the circles that don't share a common symbol with the original. (gauntlet puzzle)
The Collector's Edition Bonus Chapter takes place directly after the main adventure timeframe. Once again, you and your sister Adriane have to continue cleanup in aisle 5 because Drones are still on the loose and stealing everyone's valuables. You will learn a more in-depth insight into the Nightengales crews background stories as well. There are 4 remaining Hidden Object Scenes, 3 Mini-Games, and the Gauntlet is used once during the CE BC. There are no remaining Morphing Zepplin Airships or collectibles during the CE BC either.
The Collector's Edition version has 6 Steampunk Wallpapers (without characters, yea!) 12 Concept Art Pictures, 5 Music Soundtracks, 7 Cutscene Videos, 13 Re-playable Hidden Object Scenes, 22 Re-playable Mini-Games, 16 Achievements to Earn, 29 Morphing Zepplin Airships, 6 Main Chapters (Heart of the Mountain) +Bonus Chapter (Apprentice At Heart) and a Built-in Strategy Guide. Enjoy your Steampunk Adventure! Show less
