I've got the first 2 Magic Farm games and wasn't sure I wanted another. Then decided to get it and am glad I did. I've been getting very involved in it, which is what I want from a game. Looking forward to many hours of game play.
As someone else noted, its intense during a farm day but you get a chance to relax and take your time selling bouquets and setting up your farm.
You earn some improvements (like selling bouquets not just individual flowers) by completing tasks so there is more to discover as the game goes on. Cant wait to see the other farms and what sort of plants they have!
Pros:
* new gardens, new flowers to discover
* bugs are now humorous (dragonflies have glasses, clams flutter like a butterfly)
* great graphics
* relaxing music
Cons:
* lots of chatter - have to click through a lot of talk (previous games had more info in a single dialog window)
* not quite as clear about how the farm works as in the earlier versions (but once you get going its fine)
* first farm is in a river so something of a logic error to water the plants but that is a minor issue
Tips:
*the upgrades are available from the start, need to click on each to see a description then can use (looked to me like they were locked)
* turn the sound effects down: at first it seemed they had put in some horrible blaring sound for the end of day. After adjusting the in game sound I realized it was the same mild tones as in the earlier games. whew!
May not be for everyone but well worth trying! Show less

First off, I have the other Magic Farm games and I still replay them off and on. This one is quite a bit like the last one as far as how the game runs but the plants and surroundings are all different and there are a couple of new things.
You plant different plants and gather the flowers.
You protect your plants from the pests and keep them watered.
You use your gathered flowers to make bouquets to sell.
You are able to use your gathered experience points to upgrade different aspects of the game. For example killing pests, watering plants, and gathering flowers.
You are able to buy upgrades to your surroundings, as in making the plants demand less water, making the plants grow and bloom faster, and more.
One thing I noticed that is different is with the pests. Most of the pests are normal and you just smack them until they die and leave you experience points. There is a new foe that is exceptionally hard to defeat, the large octopus. However you really don't have to waste your time trying to kill him, simply click on him and just carry him away from your plants. he will keep coming back, but is pretty slow so you can drag him away again.
I have only played the demo, but will definitely be using a game credit on it. It does start off pretty slow because with only one plant, you can't make many coins. at the beginning of the game everyone seems to be asking for coins in order to finish quests. It is hard because you simply can not make coins very fast, but you can tell them to wait while you enlarge your farm to make coins faster.
Another new feature is to do with buying water to water plants. In the other games, if you didn't have coins to buy water, you couldn't buy it. Now you are able to go into negative coins to buy water at the beginning of a level so your plants won't die.
Thank you for a new TM game that is not the same old resource gathering formula. It seems that the devs get stuck on one style of game and do it again and again. It would be great if somebody would take a chance with a different style of TM game. Maybe try something like the Chocolatier series, Totem Tribe, Paradise Beach, World of Zellions, or Wandering Willows. They are all so different and I replay them all the time. Show less

Next sometimes it will not let you pick the flowers even tho you have room. It wants you to increase your water supply, even tho it lets you even go into the negative to buy the water, This third edition is just enough change that you know your not playing one or two. But still has all the main game that it's followers know and love. The right click to skip the conversation does not work but that is no big deal, you just keep left clicking and it races through it. I am so glad they came out with the third installment. Show less

I have only done the demo on this game..but it's a buy for me. It started badly and I was a bit confused when asked as my first task for 'birdweed' and was only offered 'hagweed' for sale. So I bought it and managed to fulfill my task with that.
There is a good tutorial, and I found the graphics in this one much more sophisticated from the previous games. It is a game of growing flowers by buying water and plots and selling them for money or gathering enough to fulfill the tasks that various characters request of you. You begin just by selling flowers and decorations but eventually you make big bucks by putting together fancy bouquets.
The game is basically played in relaxed and its up to you what you can achieve during the 'day' a timer that ends after a certain time. I played in casual, but there is a hardcore setting with stronger battles and nastier pests. At the end of each day you are given time to gather your thoughts to see if you want to sell all your stuff or hang on to some, or buy new equipment (storage baskets, water holders, new plots etc)..and always to stock up on water so the plants don't die
The clickfest comes in because there are pests you must destroy by madly clicking on them until they are destroyed before they destroy your plants, but they leave behind a legacy of useful items for you to use. The big villain in this one is an octopus. He takes a lot of beating and the tutorial advised wisely to click away..but rather than neglect your plants, to hold down and toss him from the water and then resume your click attack again as he comes back. I actually love doing this lol!
There are achievements and trophies that as you gain experience give you faster attack or cheaper buying power etc. You will open many towns and locations on a map and the tasks all seem to tie in together to keep moving on.
Is the game boring? To some it may be, there are some lulls waiting for flowers to grow, and pests to show up, and not everyone is into making up bouquets... but I am really liking it as a 'late nighter' like a solitaire. With its pleasant graphics, the 'go at your own speed' (other than doing pests)..and the meditative aspect of making the bouquets..(when I get there)..and all the varied choices and tasks, it will be an nice little desktop addition to turn to. This will come down to what type of games you use, when and why I think, so make sure you try the demo.
It has taken quite a step forward from the past games although still the same basic gameplay, and you will need to have good mouse and clicking control to enjoy it. Show less

I'm well into the second garden and they've made things harder with using water to collect the flowers.
Magic Farm is mindless entertainment for when I want to reset from a long day. Like I said if you loved it before you will love it again. It's worth a credit for the very long game play you will have. Show less

However, I like this game so much, I purchased the new edition of it and have played both many times from beginning to end. The overall story is pleasant and interesting; a girl and her dragon take the magical botany world by storm and excel. My only complaint (and the main reason it doesn't have 5 stars) is that Marshes section is very glitchy. Plants will die with less than a second warning because they don't have water. Usually they take 5 to 10 seconds to become parched (depending on if you've been hovering over them/encouraging them to bloom or grow). I keep losing expensive plants because there is no cue (i.e. the water droplets don't show up or the red "danger" warning has only flashed on the plant for a split second and then it's dead) to water them. A little disappointing, but otherwise it is a great game. Show less

I have not played the previous two Magic Farm games, however, I did watch several videos of Magic Farm 2: Fairy Lands and THAT one is clearly more appealing! The "farm" is bright and colorful, the "pests" are adorable little critters and the "plants" evolve into really interesting flora. Farming on a river bed is about as unimaginative as it gets and a huge concept mistake because there's no curb appeal, nothing to look at but water, even the pests were poor choices. Mosquitos that were larger than the octopus? (they lay eggs in standing or stagnant water, they don't eat vegetation??) Clams that clock in at about 30 MPH, (clams are filter feeders, clams can retract their foot to squirt water & project themselves laterally to "swim" in short bursts using the currents) and Octopi (octopuses also acceptable) that look like they were hybrid beluga whale mutations (and also don't eat vegetation, they eat mostly cephalopods which btw, includes Clams, therefore, I should be able to just let nature take its course without having to thump these poor creatures with a shovel?!? Now one could argue that it's a fantasy farm and these are fantasy creatures...then why make them ordinary, everyday creatures instead of the fantasy creatures offered in Magic Farm 2? First Concept Flaw: Poor Location & Pest choices, Graphically speaking.
In the Casual Mode, pests are weaker and the plants require less water. In Hardcore Mode, the pests are stronger, plants require more watering, and Robin may get thirsty as well. There are 17 Trophies to earn that reward you with various skills, such as Increasing the damage to bugs by 3%. The trophies should have been more numerous, trophies should have been awarded more frequently as you gain new experience boosts so that you were constantly earning percentage increments over several categories. Farming skills would award you a % discount for purchasing water, plants, or decorations. The dragon should have several trophy achievement-skill upgrades as well. Another missed opportunity concept flaw that would have incorporated more Time Management aspects into the game.
This is a very simplistic yet addictive game that's easy to learn, but difficult to master. You buy a basic starter plant, water it when the droplets appear, harvest the blooms, and annihilate any critter who dares to attack your crops with a shovel?! (perhaps an organic pest control spray bottle would have sufficed?) The faster you are, the more experienced you become, and you'll earn more money because you'll earn more flowers to sell at the end of each day. As you gain experience, the flowers begin to evolve, the more they evolve, the more exotic the flowers become, the more exotic the flower, the more money you'll earn at days end. Eventually, quests become available that allows you to create items that bring in bigger bucks.
You are constantly being swindled out of your hard-earned cash by the locals who want to get their hands on your little mermaid, crustaceous moola. I found this feature to be maddening because IF you choose to pay up, you're back to square one...broke, and the second you pay up, another's there to take his place with an open palm and empty pockets. You'll get trapped in a never-ending loop and stuck with the same two plants you started with, the same, end-of-the-day tallies forever. You'll have to buy Water before starting the Day's Level, so you're caught in a catch 22, struggling to make enough money to buy or repair more flowers...which will make the game boring pretty quickly. Another Concept ideal flaw. (Does it matter if I DON'T help them financially? Do I miss a leveling-up opportunity or other scenario feature? This would be an important answer not covered in the vague tutorial!)
If you don't pay the Magic Farm Sharks, you'll have enough she-sells, sea-shells to purchase lilypad plant plots to make the game more interesting. You can also purchase water containers and harvesting baskets as well as decorations that help plants evolve faster, require less water, increases flower production or make them more resilient to pests. There aren't enough items offered in the Equipment category, in my opinion, they should have several storage containers that hold an increasing amount of water or flowers (for example: holds 6-10-25 liters of water) As I mentioned earlier if there were more trophies available, items could include an automatic water or harvest feature for each individual flower, or an auto-sell harvest, speed up the day options (night mode too!) Missed concept!
One of the most annoying features (or possibly a glitch?) I came across started with the introduction of the mutant octopi. When the pests attack the crops, it's your solemn duty to grab the nearest inappropriate tool at your disposal, aka a shovel, and bludgeon them to death. (picture yourself repeatedly smacking the water with a shovel as you attempt to hit a moving underwater object, then picture yourself trying to swat a mosquito, midair with a heavy shovel...Nuff said?) Presumably, because the Beluga-octowhale is a mutant, they are stronger than your average squishy, spineless invertebrates composed entirely of soft tissue, and require super-human strength with cat-like reflexes, to squash them like a bug. In other words, you'll have to bonk them on their boneless bald heads at a break-neck pace. IF I chose to stop smacking him for a second to water my plants before they wither to dust, then the mutant octopus uses some kind of a voodoo-magic farm slime defense mechanism to cling to my magic farm cursor because he still thinks its a shovel/weapon. That's all fine and dandy, but now I've just shot him like a torpedo from the embankments to the VERY plant I so vehemently tried to defend, and poof! There goes my plant, there goes my hard-earned pirate-booty, all because the slimy ink-squirter used his spidey-senses to fool me into fast-tracking him to red lobster!

I am extremely disappointed the way the game has been developed! 1. The harder pests appear very early in the game
2. The items in the timed bouquet are impossible to see ans the flowers are hidden under each other and finally 3. there is not enough baskets space and they are full way too early. It would be a great game if it was fixed
