Nevertales Hearthbridge Cabinet is the ninth game in the series and only the third one that I have purchased. I’ve not been a fan of the series in general but this one grabbed me, and I loved the game. There is really nothing new in the storyline with the ever present evil of some sort to be defeated but I found this game excellent with a young hero who is suddenly thrust into a world he never knew existed when his grandmother falls into a coma.
What really captured me is the beautifully created Taleworld that is full of color and crystal clear graphics. Although the storyline is the premise of most of the Nevertales games, I found the way the story unfolded with the new Hearthbridge Guardian from the time he learns of his grandmother’s illness and stepping up to save Taleworld. This is simply a beautiful game that for me was a joy to play.
The HOP scenes are terrific and a few are very creative but for the most part they are what we have seen before but hey, this is the premise of HOPA games so who cares. I simply enjoyed playing the scenes and finding the objects. As others have mentioned the puzzles are nothing new but I found them very entertaining and easy to solve. Some of my favorite types of puzzles are included in the mix and maybe one or two did seem new. I think I only skipped one puzzle because I hate dodging obstacles whether they are in the clouds or on a street.
For many of us who have played hundreds of HOPA games at BFG, this game will seem like the same old thing, but I still enjoy the genre and always enjoy finding the hidden objects and gameplay in general. Even though I love this game, please try the demo to see if it is one you will enjoy. Happy gaming! Show less

There are interesting characters in this storyline--you are a guardian in Taleworld, which is a world created by humans. You've got to contend with the villain, known as the Tall Man who has a deep, booming voice! You need to save Eliah. He's taken her to the Alltale Heart mountain. And from there, the journey is challenging and interesting.
The graphics are stunning and spot-on for this genre. I love it. I usually gravitate toward games that have cozy, well-drawn, bright, crisp scenes with Victorian or unusual mansions and grounds that look so real you could walk right into those scenes. Snowy, sunny, rainy scenes. But this an unusual world with beautiful scenery, too, and tons of tasks to accomplish. Right up my alley!
What I love is the special effects, especially the dialogue which is often comical at times. The array of puzzles are wonderful. Just wonderful! I really enjoyed the mini-game rock, paper, scissors. These devs don't hold back and they're smart!
The game-flow suits me to a tee. The voiceovers are great. There are silhouetted shape hops and I loved selecting patterns within the scenery, too. Such an array and imaginative things to do. And the storyline makes sense to me.
Well, I have to get back to the game. I've already helped Digger put out the small fire which he could have very easily done himself like dig up some dirt and throw it over the fire but no matter. I put it out with the extinguisher that I had to repair. Of course, I had to find all the parts to do that. Fun! Fun! Fun!
I could go on and on about this, but try the demo and see for yourself. Although personally, I'm not a demo kind of person. I'm very glad I bought this game. I highly recommend it. Show less

This is my review after playing the demo for an hour:
1. EXCELLENT voice overs that fit the characters perfectly.

4. FUN mini-games that are simple, yet somewhat challenging.
5. A variety of HOS that are slightly different than what I've seen before.
I highly recommend at least trying out the demo first. You won't be disappointed. Show less

I am not a puzzle person but the puzzles were interesting and i was able to complete them all - even if i had to go and think about it while i had a cup of coffee.
The hidden objects were varied and a good mixture of lists and others. Which always makes the game more interesting.
This is the first nevertale i purchased - i will definitely look at some of the other game.
It was rewarding to see a game that had a "monster" but didn't actually visually look like a monster and his little helpers were just adorable.
I played this while in lockdown and it was a fun way to while away the afternoon.
Please try the demo before purchasing and happy gaming :) Show less

Difficulty Range: Beginner
The most exciting part of this game is the beauty of Taleworld, a world created entirely by human imagination. The storyline is the same Nevertales scenario with different characters...Grandma falls ill, grandson discovers a well-kept family secret (via letter, naturally) and gets whisked to Taleworld where he meets an evil, cloaked and masked man, surrounded by black mist, boy saves both worlds, everyone lives happily ever after, The End...sound familiar?
Gadget/Helper:
Granny's Family Heirloom Amulet is technically a gadget but it's only used to find hidden symbols in the room in the first scene, and then to find hidden caches in the final chapter. Because it's basically unobtrusive, I'll give this gadget a pass, but one has to wonder why MHG can't seem to let go of these "gadget" features altogether?
Morphing Objects/Collectibles (CE version only)
Each of the 28 Scenes, throughout the Main Game and Bonus Chapter, has a Morphing Object and Collectible Mask/MHG Swirl Symbol. There is also a Morphing Object in all of the Hidden Object Scenes, and surprisingly, they have done a great job blending the collectibles and morphs into the scenery, a few of which were quite challenging to spot! Any missed Hidden Object Scene Morphs can be picked up by playing replaying the HO's in the extra's menu, which also allows you to better your star or accuracy score. After finding all the Collectibles, there is a Jigsaw Puzzle available as well as a tab that allows you to return to each Location to find a hidden object.
Hidden Object Scenes:
There are 13 Hidden Object Scenes, 5 Zoom Zone HOP's, +4 Main & 2 Zoom Zone HOP's in the CE Bonus Chapter. This is the one area that MHG's shined, the HO scenes were colorful and located in interesting locations. I found some of the objects to be challenging to spot because objects weren't blatantly obvious, they did a wonderful job blending items into the scenery. Most of the scenes are Silhouetted Shape find variations but there are Matching Pairs Finds, Interactive & Listed Item Finds, Symbol Finds (MHG loves their symbols!) Swatches Finds, Multiples Finds and Find & Replace as well. Each of the Main HO Scenes has a Morphing Object that can be picked up within the CE Extra's menus as well. There is no alternate puzzle offered.
Mini-Games:
There are 25 Mini-Games +7 in the CE Bonus Chapter. The puzzles are easily solved, some of which can be solved in just a few moves. These are basically the same games offered in all MH games, absolutely nothing new, and certainly nothing challenging. I don't mind easily solved puzzles, but I do appreciate a little bit of originality, otherwise, they are just another boring task.
Bonus Chapter: (CE version only)
Step into the shoes of Grandma's attorney, Milton Harris as he struggles to maintain a normal life in the real world. This is a somewhat short Chapter taking place over 7 additional scene locations with 4 Hidden Object Scenes + 2 Zoom Zone HOP's and 7 Mini-Games available. There are 4 Hidden Object Scene Morphs, 7 Scene Morphing Objects, and 7 Collectible Masks remaining. After completing the CE Collectibles you can access a Jigsaw Puzzle, and after completing this Bonus Chapter you can access a Treasure Hunt to search for 16 Souvenirs.
Collector's Edition Extra's:
12 Wallpapers, 3 Concept Art Pictures, 10 Music Soundtracks, 17 Replayable Hidden Object Scenes, 28 Collectible Mask/Spiral Symbols, 28 Scene Morphing Objects, 17 HOP Morphing Objects, Treasure Hunt (return to the scene to search for Souvenirs) a Jigsaw Puzzle, 4 Main Chapters +Bonus Chapter and a Built-In Strategy Guide.

I like some of the games in this series. This is not one of them. The storyline is slow and the "young man" had way too much drama in everything he says - imagine exclamation points after everything he says.

Music inoffensive

Very short game. Some of the puzzles were ridiculously easy, and it didn't seem like anyone put much effort into the story. I really like some of the other games in the series, so hopefully this was a fluke!
