I love the Paint by Numbers series best. I used to buy all the Pixel Art but the pictures became so complicated later in the series that it takes me hours to finish most of them. If I want to make a masterpiece I won't do it on the computer. And I think too many of the Art by Numbers and Modern Art pictures are ugly. With Paint by Numbers I can make a pretty picture in 15 minutes to half an hour. And I love the feature where I can hold down the left most button and color in everything of one color.
My only complaint is having the background the same color as the number I'm filling in.

I have to say, this edition is great! Instead of the kinda' 'meh' first section that only has simple drawings, we get to start out with some more complex drawings to fill in.
The color combos are awesome this time around, with some new shades and variations added to the mix. I thoroughly enjoy detailed drawings, and this edition has plenty. For me, the more details to fill in the better.
It would be nice if the dev would give those of us who are die-hard fans the option of skipping the tutorial. I mean, there's not much to the tut' and the notices are easy to ignore, but still... plus we're forced to complete the first level before exploring the subsequent levels. But that is a really minor item.
Bottom line, I can't say enough good things about this edition and as usual, I'm waiting for #8 with great anticipation. :D
PS - I always add a current favorite game, and since I've been going retro for the last few months, my favs are from several years ago. Though I head for the new games, I do a lot of searching among those from 2009 forward that are in my collection, plus I actively hunt for early games that I may have missed. Many of those early games are totally awesome! Give it a spin if you're not already exploring the BF catalog. Show less

If you've done any Paint by Numbers, you know exactly what to expect.
The music's the same.
If every color of the rainbow can be crammed into a picture, it's done.
Some pictures now have fine lines, but most still have the heavy, thick lines.
Hundreds of little circles to fill in.
At least one picture, possibly two, are from former Paint by Numbers, with modifications.

Some places that should have color don't and others that shouldn't do have color.
Awful, garish color mixes.
But I still love doing 'em.

In spite of the excessive amount of teeny areas (as usual) to paint, filling them in was not a daunting task simply because the images were simplistic and not of adequate size. They were more on the childish side, so not as much fun for me.
Of course I needed help with those pin-head sized dots of color, making the Hint Button my good buddy a little too often. The added improvements make the game more enjoyable but it still needs a bit more work. It would be nice to use blended shading and more detail. Do away with the bold, black lines that chop up the image. Create pictures that spread out, not so many single objects. Forced to complete level one before moving on is a major negative. The poor sampling of images makes painting them drudgery instead of fun. I I hate it!!
I love changing the background color. A nice option with a full-scale color bar but, as Pennmom stated, the variation between background and highlighted areas is not distinct enough. All the other features are helpful and I've never had a tech issue with any of the Paint By Number games. They provide many hours of entertainment without the threat of some madman or monster jumping out of the darkness. I enjoy these games as a break from "the dark side" of my HOPAs. I find them relaxing and the wide array of colors makes them more fun to paint. I own all but Number 6. Painting with no muss, no fuss suits me just fine as I age, but my kitties don't have the good time anymore of scattering my pencils and brushes about and stealing them away!
I was ready to give a 5 star rating. But due to the on-going first-level issue I knocked off a star. And in support of Pennmom's problem, still not fixed after 6 months of frustration, I deducted another star. I didn't rate it 2 stars since I do like the improved features, I had no glitches to deal with, I love the beautiful color palette and painting is a very calming activity in spite of the dislikes I have mentioned here. I'm not so sure that this dev pays attention to our reviews. After so many complaints on the same issues time after time, it seems neglecting our requests is easier than responding to them.
These color by number games are so enjoyable and we are slowly seeing the collection grow on Big Fish. I wish more devs would join in. We have the same ones all the time. They are great games, lots of fun, but it would be nice to have other devs, too, with different styles and features and a wider variety of images that include nature, animals, people, fantasy. I've seen a good sampling of what's out there. I hope the near future brings us more goodies in this genre! Show less

Having a smaller cursor would definitely up the fun factor, in my opinion. This game is much like the others in the series, just different images, at least as far as the demos go, so if you have tried one, you know what this one is like. If you haven't tried any of the others, this one will give you a good idea of what you have been missing. Show less

I appreciate the fact that BF is releasing these games on Mac before the PC version, but all of the games in all of the series lately have been showing up in a small window on the left corner of the screen. It's NOT a windowed mode, the screen itself is large, but the part where you complete the pictures is centered in the corner and there's no way to solve this issue such as by adjusting my resolution or opting for the windowed mode because that just makes it smaller but still in the bottom left corner! I've been complaining about this on all of my reviews and it keeps happening, game after game! So, unfortunately, the only way I know to make a statement is to keep deducting stars until someone decides to fix it so I can enjoy the games in the series by this particular developer again!
Once again we have the option to change the color of the background with a full-scale color bar which also changes the color of the "greyed" area or highlighted area of the number you are currently working on. Unfortunately, this sort of defeats the purpose, I love the background colors, I asked for background colors repeatedly, but it still needs to have a color variation between the background color and the highlighted area because it's hard to spot the colors you are working on if they are next to the background.
There are 64 images available but you are forced to finish the first level before moving on to the next. Why do I have to finish one level before proceeding? If you won't let the player see what's in store for them they may not purchase the game based upon the images presented in the demo, you should at least place some interesting pictures on the first level!
They also made the cursor tip smaller and less bulky and you can now drag the cursor to fill in the colors on the entire board as long as you don't let go of the mouse button. In other words, as long as you left-click & hold before dragging a color, only the current number will be filled in, all other numbers will be ignored until you release the mouse button. This makes it much easier when there are tiny areas that are hard to spot or are too tedious to fill in individually, but there is also a Hint button that will point to any missed areas of the current color, without penalty if you don't feel like swiping over the whole board to catch missed areas.
There's not a whole lot to have to figure out, it's about as uncomplicated and basic as it gets. Paint By Numbers is a computer version of Oil or Colored Pencil Paint by Numbers, and actually closer to the real thing than the Pixel Art versions. Each area has a number and you simply chose the corresponding color bubble from the palette (also numbered) on the right side, left-click to fill in all the numbers with the correct color.
There is a Slider Bar that allows you to zoom in & out (there's a "fit" tab as well) you can also move the entire page around by right-clicking and dragging. There is also a slider bar that allows you to change the color of the background, which now includes a full-color scale. In the past, I've stated that I would love to see a "texture" feature added that would mimic different paint variations as well. My wishes have been granted...sort of! This same developer has released two new art series, one of which, Modern Art, has various textures that are more like the actual paint by numbers we all know and love!
My low star rating is ONLY because of the Mac glitch that hasn't been fixed for over 6 months! It's very frustrating because I love these games and I want to be able to play them on a full screen! (it wouldn't be so bad if the tiny window was at least centered in the middle of the screen!)
This is the kind of game that is designed for relaxation and to take you out of the zone, it's not supposed to be a brain-burner kind of game. It's a very basic and rudimentary game that's 100 % Zen ☯

This same developer makes a game I love, Art By Numbers. Basically the same game with some differences. The main thing I don't like about Paint is the dull, matte finish of the colors. Art By Numbers has much brighter colors. They have also added a countdown feature in Art that I find helpful. I keep getting Paint by Numbers but just isn't as cheery as Art by Numbers.
