Living Legends Remastered Ice Rose is as the title indicates the remastered release of the original Ice Rose that was released in March of 2012. I loved the original game but since I spent $13.99 for it back in 2012, there was part of my brain that screamed why should I have to shell out another $14 to basically play a game that I already own? Well, the answer is that the remastered game has so many changes and additions that it is definitely worth the cost! Those who own the original game will definitely notice the difference when they play the demo.
Your beloved Edward, a novelist, has been researching material for his new book when he comes across information that indicates a terrible tragedy took place in the village of Rosemount. He has left you with a message telling you that he has now gone to Rosemount to find more information. Of course, you set off to find him as soon as you receive his message. When you arrive in Rosemount you find a city that is literally a frozen wasteland. As you move forward in the game you will meet ghosts who will ask you for their help and when you complete their task you will learn more information about the story as the city begins to thaw.
The remastered release now has characters with voiceovers and lip movements so now there is no need for all the text that was found in the original game. Thankfully, the remastered Ice Rose still has my beloved Journal. I loved the days when all games had a Journal or Diary that told the story as the game progressed. Not only did it tell the story as the game progressed, it contained important clues that would be used later in the game. I There is now a custom mode of gameplay and an interactive map. I’m not sure if there was a bonus chapter in the original game but I don’t remember the collectible squirrels or the morphing objects that are now present in the remastered release. The graphics are great and portray the frozen land that is under the spell of the Ice Queen. Overall, the entire game has a fresh new look.
In Remastered Ice Rose some of the HOS still have those small and difficult to spot HO items. Normally I am someone who hates to use the dreaded hint button and I had to use it 3 times in the first scene. Overall, the HOS are very good, but some do seem a bit dark. The mini-games or puzzles are not brain drain difficult nor are all of them easy to solve but all of them are doable with some taking a bit longer to solve.
The original Living Legends Ice Rose was a game that I loved and it was sad that I was unable to play it on my Windows 10 laptops, thus another reason I was happy to pay for the new and improved game. I own all of the other Living Legends games but when there was a two-year wait before the Crystal Tear was released in January 2020, I was thinking that the series had been abandoned.
Living Legends Remastered Ice Rose is a beautiful game that has a wonderful storyline coupled with great HOS and mini-games. If you are like me and keep wishing that some of the newer cookie-cutter games were like those older games that we all seemed to love, then Living Legends Remastered Ice Rose is an introductory look at what will hopefully be a trend as more older games are remastered and updated to play on newer laptops with Windows 10 as well as on MAC.
Since I already enjoyed the original Living Legends Ice Rose, I knew that I would purchase this remastered edition as soon as I could hit that buy button. Although I think the remastered game is better than the original Ice Rose, please try the demo to see if you will enjoy playing Living Legends Remastered Ice Rose. Happy gaming! Show less

Back in March of 2012, 4 Friends Games started the Living Legends series off with a bang. The original Living Legends: Ice Rose was a massive hit and quickly became a fan favorite and a staple for the hidden object adventure genre. Fast forward to May of 2020 as this developer decides to give this classic hit a necessary upgrade with Living Legends Remastered: Ice Rose.
In Living Legends Remastered: Ice Rose, your lover, Edward Grand goes missing while on a trip to the city of Rosemount. When you arrive at this snow-covered city to investigate, you discover that the Ice Queen has frozen the whole city and held Edward captive. There begins your journey through a well-written storyline that is equal parts enchanting and thrilling. It was as much entertaining in 2012 as it is now and the graphics are much shaper and clearer.
In terms of gameplay, Living Legends Remastered: Ice Rose is still gold. The hidden object scenes are genuinely challenging, which makes one wonder why hidden object scenes nowadays often fail to do the same. As for the puzzles, they are fun and well-integrated into the winter theme but are mostly quite simple and easy to solve. Like most HOPAs released during the same period, this game contains no gadgets or helpers but includes one comprehensive journal for the player to relive the storyline and pick up on any missed details. I've read enough reviews over the years to know that gadgets and helpers have a 50/50 chance of being popular, especially with advanced players who may perceive them as unnecessary.
On the surface, this remastered version is identical to the 2012 version, given the exact same storyline and gameplay. Upon closer inspection, Living Legends Remastered: Ice Rose enhances the original version in multiple areas, most notably with the production. Firstly, the developer fully reworked the game’s visuals. The graphics are now sharper and special effects are more abundant. While the quality of the visuals is comparable to more recent Living Legends games, the updated artwork is stunning...so kudo's to the artist's at 4 Friends Games for a job well-done!!! Moreover, voice-overs with fully-synced character lip movements are now available in this remastered edition. These voice-overs are masterfully done and the Ice Queen’s snarky remarks now resonate better than ever.
SE or CE? I chose to play the Collector's Edition
The Collector’s Edition migrates all the content previously included in the original; a bonus chapter, a strategy guide, wallpapers, screensavers, concept art, soundtracks, videos, re-playable hidden object scenes, re-playable mini-games, achievements, collectibles, and morphing objects. It would have been ideal had Big Fish Games offered this remastered edition for FREE to those who already owned the original edition. Nonetheless, considering the amount of extensive reworking that was done, this game is still be worth a repurchase during a sale IMHO. Which is what I did during a recent BOGO. Cheers! Show less

Difficulty Range: Beginner-Intermediate
Gerda and Kai's love was strong enough to withstand the test of time, but they had a weakness that was stronger than their love for one another. Their love may have been strong enough to melt the icy temper of the Queen, but they were too weak to destroy her. What is the bond between these ghostly lovers and what does the Ice Queen have to do with the disappearance of your beloved Edward who suddenly vanished as the Ice Queen arose?
Collectibles/Morphing Objects: (CE version only)
Each scene has an Opaque Collectible Squirrel that is incredibly well-blended into the scenery! This is one of my personal favorite collectibles overall. (my all-time favorite CE feature is the non-linear morphs from the original DP series) There are 49 Opaque Squirrels total which unlocks 5 Crystal Squirrels when you find 5-10-25-37-48 Opaque Squirrels. Each scene also has a Morphing Object which is also fairly well-hidden, but not as challenging as those squirrels! There is an available pull-out Tab that tells you how many morphs & collectibles remain in each scene.
Gadget/Helper:
In March of 2012, Ice Rose had no Gadget that required collecting crystal tears so she could tell you a sad and tragic background story about how the evil-doer rose to power. In 2012 The developer relied on a Journal to fill the player in on any missing links of the story...and I am happy...ecstatic to report that not only is there no Gadget in this Remastered version of Ice Rose, but that my beloved Journal is still there, after all these years, waiting patiently for my return to Rosemount! Oh, how I have missed a good Journal! A good journal fills in the background story of each character you meet as you progress, jots down clues, codes, and diagrams you come across during the game, and even keeps track of your gameplay time. My only complaint is that the journal has a slightly annoying shake-shift feature whenever there is a new entry that won't stop until you click to open it, but I love the journal so I'm willing to give it a pass this time (don't get rid of it!) I've always wished the journal could do more, like perhaps have a youtube kind of hint or walkthrough puzzle strategy guide feature, etc??
Hidden Object Scenes:
There are 20 Hidden Object Scenes +5 in the CE Bonus Chapter and a handful of smaller zoom zone hop's. Most of them are Interactive List Finds, but it appears that the "Remastered" touch inserted some modern-day Silhouetted Shape Find HOP's where you are tasked with finding 3 silhouetted images that match the image shown in the center (X 3) but in my opinion, the original Listed Item Finds were very well done, the objects were challenging to find at times, and the Silhouetted Shape finds proves that today's improvements are a step in the wrong direction. The items in the Silhouetted Shape Finds couldn't have been more obvious, this is one of the reasons so many people are recommending OLDER games during the stay-at-home-orders, to pass the time. Think about it, tons of reviewers have been telling people how they have been replaying their games from 2012 or 2013, even at pond friends, everyone talks about the oldies but goodies...nobody says "hey last week's game was the best game of all time" because they are just forgettable kind of games nowadays!
Mini-Games:
There are 20 Mini-Games +7 in the CE Bonus Chapter. In the latest version of Living Legends, I spoke about how repetitive their mini-games have become and it was mainly because they had decided to add a similar Gadget feature to all of their different series with basically the same repetitive game associated with equipping the gadget with crystal tears. My fear was that this Stigma would haunt them, that all of their games would be referred to as "the ones with the cheesy tears gadget" and the super simplistic puzzles that accompanied them. Ice Rose was this developer's first game (See Series List below March 22-2012) and it proves that you don't need the gadget to tell the back story, the Journal fills it for us whenever we want to read it...and I MISS this feature! These are decent mini-games, they are varied with different styles, such as slider tiles, fragmented puzzle pieces, mechanical type puzzles where you connect fuses, manual dexterity types, and recreating images. They also come in a wide range of difficulty modes, some are easily solved, others are multi-layered and take a little more thought process, but my point is, they are all doable, they are all enjoyable, and they were all fairly creative, unlike the games of late, which have been made so fool-proof that it's almost insulting.
Bonus Chapter: (CE version only)
Continue your quest to save Edward who is in a catatonic trance as you must decide whether or not to make the devel a deal in this lengthy bonus chapter that takes place over a whopping additional 14 Scene Locations. There are 7 Mini-Games and 5 Hidden Object Scenes, which does seem a bit skimpy considering the size of the chapter, but I suppose the fact that you get more collectibles and morphs makes up for that. (14 Opaque Squirrels/unlocks the final Crystal Squirrel and 14 Morphs)
Collector's Edition Version Extra's
6 Wallpapers, 23 Concept Art Pictures, 5 Screensavers, 4 Music Soundtracks, 12 Movie Video Cutscenes, 25 Achievements,14 Replayable Hidden Object Scenes, 28 Replayable Mini-Games, 49 Opaque Squirrels, (1 per scene) 49 Morphing Objects (1 per scene) 6 Main Chapters +Bonus Chapter and a Built-In Strategy Guide.
