I love the Halloween Chronicles series and really hope they keep making more. I don't like things too scary, and I thought this had just the right amount of spooky graphics to get me into the Halloween spirit. Just for reference, since everyone likes a little different level of scary, a game that was borderline too scary for me was from another series -

I love the Halloween Chronicles series and really hope they keep making more. I don't like things too scary, and I thought this had just the right amount of spooky graphics to get me into the Halloween spirit. Just for reference, since everyone likes a little different level of scary, a game that was borderline too scary for me was from another series -
Halloween Stories, the Invitation Collector's Edition. Freaky things dropping from the ceiling, eek! That being said, it wasn't a bad game. But the Halloween Chronicles are my jam and I really enjoy them. Also, the games aren't too difficult on the Easy setting, which I appreciate. I like to kick back and not think TOO much during a game. Show less

I liked this game.It is a basic game with a lot of hidden object scenes. Easy to follow game play without a lot of confusing back and forth. There is a map thats easy to use. I liked the basic graphics and you can interact a little with things in the scenes.

I recommend this game!

This is now in my top 3 HOPA Halloween games.

BASED ON COMPLETED MAIN GAME (and CE bonus play)

This is now in my top 3 HOPA Halloween games.

See the top slot, 5 star reviews on the CE version page for this game. I thought Skullfun and HeavenBound7729 have already done perfect reviews for this game. I just wanted to add a couple of thoughts.

The main game took me: 4:09 hrs
CE bonus play (if you are on the fence to get that version) took me 1:47 hrs
Total Play with bonus took me just shy of 6 hrs (@ 5:56 hr)

I loved this long game from beginning to end. I found it was cheering me up every time I was playing it and wanted to get back to it when I had to do other things.

The bonus play for the CE addition was also long and had 10 ALL NEW SCENES.

My favorite thing about this game, other then the intro cut scene, were all the items that you can interact with when clicked on. I call them "reactive items". I had more fun looking for these items then the morphs that were in the CE addition.
EVERY scene in this game, right through CE bonus play, had a "reactive item" to find. I think my favorite was in the demo.... so when you get to the (2nd or 3rd) scene with the little boy, CLICK THE SNEAKERS! Just so clever and you don't want to miss it!
I kept clicking the one in the area called "Cave" in chapter 3. CLICK THE MOON. Another favorite was in Chapter 4 "Girl's Room" CLICK THE PAINTING on the right wall. I loved so many of them I'd be here all day.
These items are just so fun so be sure to click EVERYTHING in the scene so you don't miss any.
The scenes that didn't have the actual reactive items had other special effects or characters, such as a little french bulldog in the area called Rosetta's House. I have mini~bulldogs so I was thrilled with that little dog. Another scene further on had 2 grumpy old vampires that were hilarious to click on.

I adored every second of this long game. I highly recommend the CE version to it.

Side note to the other reviewers: I read these reviews every day and look for your game suggestions. A lot of us are missing the older games lately. Can you add your favorites under the "favorite games" link in your reviews? Thank you!

I don't usually leave reviews but the newer games I have played lately are just lacking. So I am going to give A BIG NOD TO DOMINI'S HALLOWEEN CHRONICLES DEVELOPERS!

There's much to learn from older games. And this is one of my older games. Halloween Chronicles: Cursed Family.
The games coming out these days, 2023, are just not making the fun grade! It is challenging to develop a fun game, I get that, but today, I feel there's no special effort from developers. Anyone can make an item to place here or go there. The magic is in the plot and items that reflect that plot.

Ok. When I move into another scene and I am excited to start finding and figuring things, it is a good thing! When I move into another area and feel dread, that is NOT a good thing!

The developers at Domini do a great job at keeping things fun.

If I cannot see an item, I cannot find it. Sighing in frustration is not what I look for in a good game. I play to relax, not stress. ALL DEVELOPERS need to remember this.

AND, I love that inventory items that need things added can show the shadows of these items. It helps understand what the developer intends. Since I cannot read minds, it’s a great help!

I like to know what I am doing and what things look like. When I am searching for items, it's great when all these items tie into the plot and/or scheme. This is the key, for me, that makes a game a game and not a HEADACHE. After all, having fun is the name of the game.

Based on demo:
I don't think it is so bad as other reviewers are saying.
Of course, it is not an original or has any new ideas,
But it is fun to play and easy going without much going back and forth.
Remember to touch everything. Some figures reacted very funny.
After checking the walkthrough I believe it's about 3 hours long, playing in normal speed.

I recommend this game!

a great HO game. i had a little trouble with it running. it kept going off. i would have to re-start it. i played on the easiest level. good hint system. had to refer to the blog a couple of times. that is not normal for me.

I recommend this game!

That's not the bad news, the bad news is that he decided to finally let them out...Happy Halloween!

Gadgets/Helper:
There are no Gadgets or Helpers. Do the creepy twins count?

Collectibles & Morphing Objects (CE Version Only):
There are 15 Morphing Voodoo Dolls and 15 Potion Ingredients that are quite small. There are 83 Zoom Zone Rings, aka coins that can be used to purchase 15 Coffin decorations which actually involve clothing a skeleton. At first, there are only a few accessories available to purchase but as you purchase those, the next layers become available. There is an optional Collection Icon Tab that can be enabled or disabled in the settings menu as well.

Hidden Object Scenes:
There are 9 Hidden Object Scenes +5 in the CE Bonus Chapter and an alternate Match 3 Game available, which btw, doesn't allow you to make consecutive matches quickly. (you have to wait for all tiles to stop falling before you can make the next match which makes the game seem sooo slooowww) Although they are Halloween-themed, they have very obvious objects that can be easily spotted without even looking at the list! There are Interactive Listed Item Finds, Replacing items into the Scene on several Portraits, Silhouetted Shapes, Multiples of Item Finds, Items Related, or Keywords in Sentence Finds.

Mini-Games:
There are 12 Mini-Games +8 in the CE Bonus Chapter. You can choose to play them in an Easy or Hard difficulty mode and you can choose which mode to have them start out in the Custom Setting (you can still switch between modes for each individual game) Below are a few of my personal favorites:
1-Place light spheres so they cover all bat tiles x3.

2-Play the piano according to arrow keys.
3-Place tokens correctly so the sum equals 94.
4-Fill a grid with symbols so that none are identical
5-Place figurines so their hands align.

Bonus Chapter (CE Version Only)
A vampire's life can be difficult, especially one who has sworn off blood! Mara seeks the help of Pierre Sullivan to transform her back into human form so she will no longer crave blood, yum! This is a typical stretched out Bonus Chapter with a lot of cliche tasks and a ton of back and forth unnecessary repetitiveness spanning over 10 scene locations. There are 8 additional Mini-Games and 5 Hidden Object Scenes and you will continue your search for the final 5 Morphing Voodoo Dolls, 4 Potion Ingredients, and 9 Zoom Zone Rings (of varying amounts) which allows you to purchase the final Coffin Decorations.
