I've bought and completed all of the earlier editions, and consider this one the best yet. The earlier edition had almost no bright colors, many pictures were full of grays or dark browns, and I longed for some real color. This edition gives us that. I don't think I need to go into detail about Modern Art. By now, we all know the highs and lows. Right now I should be jumping for joy with Modern Art 7, but find myself hesitant to purchase. I do own the previous 6. Not too keen on the first set of images. It makes me wonder about the remaining levels. Do I want to chance it? Usually I don't hesitate to buy.

Of course I love the color palette. It has every shade possible to bring an image to life with depth, detail and subtle shading. But many of the pics are usually done in many monotone shades of brown, beige, grey, black. Hopefully that won't happen in Modern Art 7. The textures are always a beautiful touch, the subject matter has improved and many images are more complex now except for the usual few first-level ones.

Modern Art has a lot going for it with its special features. It's a great escape from the stresses of the day. I love a little painting just before bedtime. Yet I am, again, majorly bugged about the first level issue. Buying is always a leap of faith and with only 64 images I don't want to paint an entire level because of this stupid feature. I want to save them for later.

If you like extreme ease there is no challenge. Painting can be done swiftly with no thought at all, maybe even blindfolded by sweeping your mouse over the image. I tend to do that often to avoid the tedium of coloring every teensy segment individually in the more complex pics. That means the game goes quickly, especially if you marathon because you enjoy it so much. I liken it to having an ice cream cone that melts away after the first few tastes.

When a game has such a short life it isn't a good value, at least for me. I have to decide if the fun outweighs the dollar. I may pick it up with a free coupon later. Modern Art is a beautiful game, rivaled only by Art By Numbers which I never pass up regardless of my frustrating budget. Show less

When it comes to a "painting" game, images are everything and if the images aren't appealing, nothing else matters at that point. There are a ton of pictures where there is just a single image slapped in the middle that doesn't allow you to paint the background. There are 64 images available but you are forced to finish the first level before moving on to the next. I still don't understand this concept, why do I have to finish one level before proceeding? I'm sure everyone would like the ability to pick and choose from any level, at the very least, allow us to see all of the available images even if we can't paint them because they are still locked! This scenario only makes me suspicious that the rest of the images are worse.

Each area has a number and you simply chose the corresponding color bubble from the palette (also numbered) on the right side. There is a Slider Bar that allows you to zoom in & out (as well as a "fit" tab) you can also move the entire page around by right-clicking and dragging.

I love the textures available in the Modern Art series and this would be a 5-star game if they would simply add some must-have features and better image selections. This developer is truly struggling with pictures and interesting color choices so it would be wise to seek out an artist or two for some better insight. I love this type of game, relaxing, enjoyable, and on days I can't hold markers or pencils because of arthritis etc. it gives me an outlet but the boring colors are just getting depressing.
Parakeets Grey, one with a little green. Why not bright green and yellow and the other blue?
River dark dirty green why not shades of crystal blue?
Windmill ok sunset, in a field of dead crops, why not a ...Show more

Didn't have a problem finishing first level in demo mode so could see all remaining pictures. Would prefer different paint textures for each paint level and would also like to see the finished picture better.
