Its called pixel are for a reason, it will always look a little different than normal pictures. And the tools they have are just enough, anymore and it would be too easy. They don't need to change anything because everything works just fine. If you hate it so much and think everything needs to be different, then you go out there and make your own version. I swear, people will complain about anything now a days. If you do not like the game, then do not play. Do not write an essay on how much better other games are, be happy that there are games for all walks of life. Show less

However, the last two series, #17 and #18 have contained a lot of really simple pictures. In this latest series, #18, there are 28, or 35% of the total pictures that are the simple pictures that are outlined in black. This was also true of #17. In fact, there were so many of them in #17, I was able to complete the series twice between when it was released and
#18 was released.
Some of the earlier versions had more complex pictures, some of them being reproductions of famous works of art, like pieces by Van Gogh and Munch, which were fun to see come to life in a Pixel version.
I have also mentioned in past reviews that I think it would add some fun if they presented an image that consisted of a plain white background with just numbered pixels so that we didn't know what the picture was until it was completed. No outline of the picture behind the pixels.
I have, however, enjoyed the Pixel Art series and have purchased several of them. If they keep me interested, I will continue to purchase them. Show less

As I've been saying a lot lately, Pixel Art is now nothing more than a "dated" old-fashioned game with none of the features that the new kids on the block have to offer. Other pixel art games have so many useful features, such as maps that show the current color locations, features that tell you how many cells each color has available, and one of my favorites was choosing the desired colors shown as crayons versus just square color boxes. (which btw: I've had to click 3-4 times before the color is accepted, not to mention how difficult it is to click the arrow to scroll to the next set of numbers. It's also a pain to have to scroll back & forth between colored number sets)
These images are boring and lack any semblance of "curb appeal". The chosen colors are always bland, unappealing, and rarely pop with shades and hues that complement one another versus shades that muddle together like you just added a glob of red, yellow, and blue paint together to make a huge brown mess.
Pixel Art is a computer version of Paint by Numbers, in a pixelated version. Each pixel has a number that is filled in with its corresponding color/number from the palette on the right side. You simply left-click to fill in all the numbers with the correct color, you can also hold the mouse button and swipe through large groupings of numbers. The auto-fill feature will fill in large groups of pixels when you double-click on a cluster of numbers, but that feature has to recharge after each use. (a sound alerts you when the auto-fill feature is available each time)
Other than the auto-fill, there are only a couple of other features or options offered...the same original features, nothing new has been updated since the first Pixel Art game! There is a Slider Bar that allows you to zoom in & out (there's a "fit" tab as well) you can also move the entire page around by right-clicking and dragging. The most annoying feature that has yet to be addressed is the fact that you are forced to complete the first level before you can access the next set of images, rest assured, those images are dreadful too!
You can also change the color of the Highlighted cells to various shades of grey. This is the area that Pixel Art games fail miserably. With most games, the current chosen number/color is highlighted with a shade that sticks out in a crowd so you can easily identify where the available cells are located, even without a map location feature. For some odd reason, several numbers/colors are shaded at the same time in the same area making it impossible to easily spot the numbered cells you are working on. This has never made sense to me, for example, if you click on the number 10 from the color palette, all cells with the number 10 will highlight in grey but so will other numbers like number 21, and number 18 so you'll have to search for number 10 cells jumbled in with several other grey-highlighted cells. It's a frustrating feature that defeats the purpose of a Zen painting game!??

Take Pennmom's word for it, Pixel Art is a drag! It's a shame that the devs seem completely oblivious to the shortcomings of this game or just don't care. Take Pennmom's word for it, Pixel Art is a drag! It's a shame that the devs seem completely oblivious to the shortcomings of this game or just don't care. In the beginning it was different, fun, appealing to the artist in us all. Now it's just boring and old fashioned because no attempt is made to bring it up to date.
Features and options have always been minimal. After all this time the colors and images are still unappealing. The completed pictures are too small and too blurry to "show-off" all the work you put into it. The numbered pixels are shaded with various dark greys to make them "stand out". But quite the contrary, finding them becomes a long, tedious process.
Even though there's a huge array of colors, they don't bring the images to life. They are flat and usually too many monotones, darks or pales. Not enough bright, vibrant or rich colors to make the images a fun project. The subject matter leaves a lot to be desired. This time they seem to have gotten worse. The typical variety includes very simple, ugly, boring, complex, landscapes, very juvenile, fruit and food groups, an occasional critter. Take your pick! They are all unappealing no matter which colors or how many are used.
New features and options, better colors and images are definitely needed. If the dev doesn't care about improving their product, I find it hard to care about supporting them. I want my $$ to be well spent so I have found a great deal of fun and satisfaction in one of their competitors. Others will be surfacing too as the popularity of this genre grows.
I no longer purchase Pixel Art, stopping at Number 10. I do, however, keep checking the demoes hoping to find something new. Looks like that will just never happen. My opinion may be very different from other "artists". For me it just isn't creative enough, nor is it a rewarding experience when I see the little, blurry pic at the end to show for my time and effort. Show less
