If you love a great historical game Secrets of Great Queens has returned this time with Regicide. I loved the first game – Old Tower and have been waiting for two years hoping there would be another game in the series. History has been one of my passions so when I see a game based on historical events it is sure to be a keeper for me.

King Henri IV has been assassinated by Francois Ravaillac and you play the game as Alfonso Campanella the head of the Royal Secret Service. With your companion Adrianna at your side you are off to find out the truth of who hired Francois and to clear the name of Queen Marie who many believe was behind the assassination.

With most of the more recent games containing only three or four chapters this game is a treat with five plus the bonus game. The graphics are colorful and crisp with realistic looking characters and this always adds to my enjoyment of any game. While the characterizations are excellent, the voiceovers do not even attempt to sound realistic but that’s not surprising.
The HOPS are excellent and well-designed with many of them including puzzles. I enjoyed the variety in the HOPS and even those that were not my favorite list style were still very good. The Puzzles in the game were more interesting and most seemed to have a bit more challenge – another good thing about this game.
This is a wonderful and refreshing game without glowing dark eyes and some evil entity attempting a takeover of humanity! For many, this might just be another same ole, same ole HOPA game but since I love a great historical game based mostly on true events my criteria might be a bit different. My enjoyment of a game is mostly based on the storyline as well as the HOPS and Puzzles. Secrets of Great Queens: Regicide is quite entertaining to play and has a well-developed storyline. With excellent graphics, sound, and interesting characters Secrets of Great Queens becomes the complete package for me. Even though this is a game I will buy, please try the demo to see if it is one you will enjoy. Happy gaming! Show less

There are LOADS of HOPs, which is refreshing. A lot of HOP games have become mostly puzzles with only occasional HOPs, but this one is different. They even have puzzles within HOPs, which I also really like. They also let you do a lot of actions that most games do for you in animation, so it's very lifelike in that way.
There are some different spins on puzzles you know. I always like when a developer works to keep the game fresh and new, and this one did.
There are collectibles and morphs, and for every 5 morphs you collect, you unlock a puzzle! That's a really nice twist to give you a little something extra.
It's really hard to stop playing this game, totally addictive!

I agree with my fellow Fishies 4 & 5 Star reviews and instead of triplicating their great reviews will just say that I really enjoyed it.
The length some say was too short & I don't agree with, for me It was an ok length and got completed before I started to loose interest :) But did not care for the 2 super -fast -click Mini games.
P.S.--- : ) Lots of HOPS : ) doing happy dance : )

My favorite recipe: Take plenty of HO scenes, add more HO scenes, and top it off with a sprinkle of HO scenes! Delicious!
Many thanks to reviewers who complained that there are too many HO scenes in this game, and not enough puzzles. I mean that seriously, and not in a sarcastic or snarky way; it's my cue that this is a game I will enjoy immensely, so I'm grateful when reviewers mention it.

The graphics are gorgeous - among the best out there. The details and the atmosphere of the middle-age is highly rendered. The hos are classic and easy with no bells and whistles. Many easy but fun puzzles, some are hard which I prefer. Collectibles to find with bonus jigsaw puzzles (oddly they are ugly). The story is really good with plots and twists. Some good moment with ah! factor.
The bonus chapter is a sequel. It's good but short. An easy game but entertaining and fun to play ! Happy Gaming シ Show less

5 Chapters Plus a Bonus Chapter
OVERVIEW: Engage in some palace intrigue as you try to save the Queen of France! Return to 1610 France under the reign of King Henry IV. As Francois Ravaillac, you have been commissioned by Queen Marie d’ Medici to prove her innocence in her husband’s murder. A sect, the Secret Order, is behind the murder, but you will need evidence to support that fact. This group is planning to overthrow the government and are framing the Queen and her lady-in-waiting, Lenora, for the crime. Now, only you can save the monarchy and restore the kingdom.
OPINION: This is a well-designed game; however, it did not appeal to me. I am not a fan of historical games; however, for those who enjoy Renaissance history, this should be delightful romp into the past. The realistic portrayal of the characters is noteworthy. You don’t find the quality of this game’s graphics in most HOP games nowadays. The pace is excellent. The palace intrigue and suspense from the story along with the variety of activities should keep a player engaged throughout the game.
MECHANICS: There are four (4) levels of play including a customized version. There are sixteen (16) achievements. Collect twelve (12) royal items and thirty (30) morphing objects. There are thirteen (13) wallpapers along with casual art and music selections. I believe there may an option to replay puzzles and HOP scenes, but it is not indicated as such in the demo.
GIMMICK: There is a helper within this game, Adriana. She sits at the left side of your inventory bar. She will help you by performing tasks you are not able to perform. I don’t like gimmicks within games, but in this case, this helper is logical and not thrown into the game for a whimsical effect. However, I do feel the game could stand on its own merit without the helper.
HOP SCENES: I found the scenes creatively designed. The ones in the demo are lists of items and silhouette. They are highly interactive, some with mini-puzzles within them. A couple in the demo require you to use a magnifying glass to search for items. There is one search-and-replace scene in which you must locate items and then use them within the scene.
PUZZLES: The puzzles are also creatively designed. Most are of medium difficulty. I found none challenging. There is one puzzle in the demo which has the option to be played in either a casual or hard mode.
SPOILERS: HERE ARE THE PUZZLES FROM THE DEMO:
A. Assembly puzzle. Rotate two rings to restore an image given on a ring.
B. Switch puzzle. Switch tiles with parts of a maze imprinted on them so that a path is created from the top of a grid to the bottom. All pipes will be connected with each other.
C. Sequence puzzle. Snake alert! Remove snakes in sequence.
D. Switch puzzle. Switch tiles to restore a pattern.
E. Matching puzzle. Using a “decoder,” search a parchment for a matching symbol given at the top of the decoder.
F. Bullseye puzzle. Click on from one to three hands when they reach a center circle.
G. Choice between hard and casual modes. Rotating tiles puzzle. Using arrows, rotate and move three outside circles so that a pattern is formed in the middle circle.
H. Tracing puzzle. Using a quill and ink, trace a path to a castle without moving out of the lines.
I. Lock puzzle. Open a lock by following given clues.
J. Bullseye puzzle. Click on a knot when a slider passes through a red area. 2X
K. Sequence puzzle. Repeat a sequence of given battle moves to defeat an evildoer. 5x

The King of France is Dead! Like most Royal Monarchies, King Henry IV had a price on his head from those that wished to remove him from the Royal Throne through the act of Regicide. As head of The Royal Secret Service, the Queen has asked you to pledge your loyalty and prove her innocence, and that of Lenora's, Her Majesty's Lady-in-Waiting. For Francois Ravaillac, the odds are stacking up against him to uncover the truth, someone has gone through a great deal of trouble to frame Her Majesty, but why? ♛♚
For the first time, I'm disappointed that a game doesn't have a Helper! I was really hoping Captain Louis would return from the first game in this series! He was so funny and so good looking that for me, he was the focal point and the star of the show. As for Regicide, the graphics are amazing and some of the best I've seen in a long time. The characters are flawless, the objects are credible for the time period, the music does exactly what it's supposed to do, immerse you into the game without being aware that it's doing so! We HOPA fans tend to ignore the details, but I tend to stop to smell the roses lately, and Vendel Games has obviously put a great deal of effort into this game.
Why only 4 Stars you may ask? I just wasn't as blown away by the storyline as I was in the first game, and because I wish Captain Louis had made a comeback. (and possibly because I played as a male character this time and didn't feel as much of a personal connection?) Each scene in this Collector's Edition version has a Morphing Object that not only morphs at a nice pace but doesn't morph to an object that sticks out like a sore thumb. For every 5 Morphs you find, a Jigsaw Puzzle is unlocked, but they are simplistic, large sized pieces and not that many of them. I would rather only unlock one puzzle that had some options such as having a large number of pieces (24-500 or even more) rotatable pieces and the ability to save it as a wallpaper and to be able to assemble it more than once. When you find the Morph, the icon will turn to a blue gem to remind you that you found it already, a feature I do like. There are also Collectible Royal Objects that unlock Hidden Object Scenes, and there is a pull-down tab at the top of the screen that will have a checkmark once you find the item.
The Hidden Object Scenes are plentiful in this long-awaited Secrets of Great Queens edition by Vendel Games. Not only are they in abundance, but they vary with different styles each time and are fairly well done I might add. I'll go one step further to say that Vendel Games has done a fantastic job choosing the locations of the HOP's as well such as finding silhouette shaped symbols hidden within a Knights Armor. Some of the HOP's are back to back or at least have a smaller Zoom Zone HOP before or after. There are Interactive List finds, Silhouetted Shape finds, Interactive-Progressive finds, Spot the Difference finds, Multiples of the same Object finds, and finding silhouetted shapes using a Magnifying Glass. Well done Vendel, and I'm not even a fan of HOP's lately because they never seem to even attempt to actually hide objects nowadays!
The Mini-Games are rather odd at times, especially after the demo. They are not bad, but some of them have hard to understand instructions and because some of them are new variations those same puzzles are difficult to solve by just winging it. They aren't all like that so don't freak out, change is a good thing, otherwise it's just another cookie-cutter game, and I enjoyed the change and the challenge. Below are brief descriptions of some of the games you'll encounter during the game:
1-Swap tiles to create a path from the top left to the bottom right.
2-Remove snakes that aren't blocked by other snakes.
3-Swap tiles along tracks to complete the pattern.
4-Examine the letter and find each symbol shown on the decoder.
5-Recreate the decoded symbols by swapping partial sections.
6-Rotate disc sections to complete the decoded symbol's images.
7-Click when 1, 2 and 3 hands are within the targeted circle at the same time.
8-Complete the image by rotating the main circular image and smaller discs on the edges.
9-Find and select the Crest that's identical to the one in the letter.
10-Select and drag the quill through the correct route.
11-Select the correct symbols in the correct order according to the clue found in the HOP.
This Collector's Edition version has 13 Wallpapers, 13 Concept Art Pictures, 9 Music Soundtracks, 16 Achievements to earn, 30 Morphing Objects that unlock a new Jigsaw Puzzle for every 5 Morphs found, 19 Collectible Royal Objects, 5 Main Chapters +Bonus Chapter, enjoy the Royal Adventure.

A nice historical piece set in pre-30-Years'-War France. The events are portrayed with reasonable accuracy, and to this day no one really knows if the King's assassin had help. Ravaillac the assassin was caught on the spot and we are spared any depiction of what really happened to M. Ravaillac lest modern sensibilities be shocked; suffice it to say it was unpleasant. The player takes the role of the suspected Queen's head of secret investigation with an idea to uncovering the real plotters.
Pros: beautiful scenery, reasonable historical accuracy with regard to events, and especially a rather innovative helper, who rides in the task bar as usual but turns out to be a genuine character with lines and a voice actor behind her. This is an immense improvement over the customary cutesy non-entity who is sent into cubbyholes after keys and such. Fair plot, generous gameplay including the bonus game, where the former helper is now the player character. Well done on that!
Cons: dialogue is occasionally leaden and the pronunciation in jarring American accents is bad enough to cause this American to want to apologize to all of France. Ruh-VALE-ack? Please! The writer comes in for some blame for some cringeworthy lines but this was a voice actor failure. Two of the battle encounters in the bonus chapter involve rapid mouse clicking that is beyond the ability of older or disabled players.
Overall, four stars for the historical verisimilitude and the excellent helper. Fair value for the cost and I'd play it again. Show less

When Vendel Games came out with the first episode this series, Secrets of Great Queens: Old Tower Collector’s Edition in 2017 I thought they did a great job creating an innovative detective adventure. You play the role of Jane Bennette; personal investigator to Queen Elizabeth whose mission is to provide discrediting proof against allegations that Queen Elizabeth is a witch, since her mother who proceeded her) was tried for being a witch and a group of Witch hunters have given her three days to give up her throne. Witch hunter’s want Elizabeth off the throne to full-fill their insidious agenda, and they’re willing to kill her to accomplish this by burning her at the stake. Jane isn’t alone though, she is aided in her quest by her assistant Captain Louis whom the Queen has also enlisted to help Jane. Together Jane and Captain Louis ultimately secure Queen Elizabeth’s with their skilled efforts.
In this follow up sequel the gender roles are reversed. You play detective Alfonso Campanella, head of the Royal Secret Service with your assistant Adrianna. You are tasked once again with the burden of proving Queen Marie De Medici ’s innocence whose been accused of murdering King Henry the 4th. Allegedly Francois Ravaillac murdered King Henry but there is evidence that “a Secret Order” hired Ravaillac and another anonymous co-conspirator to commit this dastardly deed. Can you discover the real truth behind the assassination of King Henry?
It’s an engaging detective adventure with enough twists and surprises for enthusiasts of this kind of game that players of every level can easily enjoy. Perhaps a little too easy for Advanced player’s but occasionally even seasoned players desire a game that doesn’t rack your brain with incredibly difficult puzzles and convoluted story themes. This sequel may not appeal to everyone and some may like the first game more so than this one, but for me I really enjoyed the casual gaming aspects of this game. The storyline was also successfully executed and held my interests until the games surprising conclusion.
Vendel Games did a decent job and won me over with this next chapter and I wish them continued success with future releases of their series Secrets of Great Queens. Cheers! Show less
