I have always liked 4 Friends Games and this one does not disappoint. It is a fun game with beautiful graphics. There are new twists to the HO's and some of the puzzles. Yes, it is heavy on the puzzles but they are not real difficult...more fun than anything. I enjoy this series, especially its storylines, and this "Phantom" story has some good twists, which make for enjoyable play. Perhaps what stands out the most is the creativity in the Hidden Object scenes. Also, their placement does not detract from the story, and the same is true for the puzzles, which are easy (my favorite kind). I do wish the developer would use other music. I enjoy this series, especially its storylines, and this "Phantom" story has some good twists, which make for enjoyable play. Perhaps what stands out the most is the creativity in the Hidden Object scenes. Also, their placement does not detract from the story, and the same is true for the puzzles, which are easy (my favorite kind). I do wish the developer would use other music. I have grown weary of it.

Lately, I've been thinking I have played too many HOPA games] I have to remind myself of what a HOPA game is when I consider my rating and not rate it on what it isn't. This is a solid game in all aspects, especially as a whodunit, whose storyline is always about catching a murderer. And the developers are creative with clues and evidence. The pacing of the game is excellent; I really appreciate the chapter designations, too.

As well, there is a bit of music history with the appearance of Johann Strauss in the main game and the sequel Bonus Chapter, which has to do with a muse and thoughtfully done. To me, it is an excellent game and bonus chapter.

"City" themed mysteries always raise the question, "How much of the city do we get to see?" In the case of Vienna, not enough but what we do see is (understandably) gorgeous. The year is 1886. We play as The Detective, male POV with internal monologue restricted to the deduction scenes, with one gadget that lights up clues that real detectives would probably kill for. "City" themed mysteries always raise the question, "How much of the city do we get to see?" In the case of Vienna, not enough but what we do see is (understandably) gorgeous. The year is 1886. We play as The Detective, male POV with internal monologue restricted to the deduction scenes, with one gadget that lights up clues that real detectives would probably kill for. The "fill the folder with clues and sort it out between chapters" trope is not overdone and for a change, doesn't interfere too much with game flow. Some amusing references to period composers.

Pros: beautiful graphics, a fine if somewhat convoluted mystery with enough reveals per chapter to keep it interesting, very good voice acting albeit with some occasionally painful American accents, and lush music that fits the theme - you don't often hear comments on the music, but I liked this set a lot. Great mix of HO scenes. A reasonable amount of back-and-forth with a useful map.

Cons: the puzzles in the main game are extremely easy, and the plot is peppered with ancillary characters that don't really add much to the story except complication. You practically need a scorecard to keep track of them - on the upside, the notebook serves that function fairly well.

Bonus game: really excellent. The puzzles here are challenging and the mystery more straightforward. Here our friend Johann Strauss (naw, never heard of him) needs help identifying his Muse and nearly pays for it with his life.

Overall, a better than average whodunnit set in a beautiful locale. I'll always be complaining about not enough scenery when the topic is Vienna, but what we see is well worth a little wandering. The main game needs a little more length and by itself would be four stars but I'm giving it a five due to the excellent bonus game. Show less

4 Friends Games has created a "masterpiece" within the opera. I've loved everything about this game during the trial. It will be a buy for me. So many new things never done before.

we need more of this type of games playing detective is so much fun and trying to find out the culprit is mind blowing as it keeps you in such suspense cannot leave the game until played all the way thru as the storyline keeps you involved and hops are challenging bring more dark city games series to buy and play

Game was long, didn't time it though. Well worth the price at full cost. I loved that they switched up the hidden object puzzles from the standard list and silhouettes adding a new fun technique that I'm not spoiling for you here.

excellent game very good story line music is in keeping with the game, love the puzzles ..ok some easy ones ..but not all, there are good hos and I find this a very enjoyable game , I don't think it is boring it is a pleasure not have a monster popping up I find monsters breathing fire and what not very annoying,
enjoy. Morphs to find and wooden alphabet letters to find.
