The MCF series started out with a completely HOP experience and for a while, I truly enjoyed the addition of minigames and Rube Goldbergs (see Madame Fate). Then, gradually, minigames just plain took over. I'm here for HOPs. Especially as a person with challenged vision, it's important that they have beautiful, easy-to-see graphics. This game has that in spades, and it's so nice to be able to play it without having to place my screen inches from my eyes.
On relaxed mode this is a meandering, still-fun game but if you get stuck, you can actually read the Strategy Guide instead of squinting at tiny letters and graphics. This is literally the first time I've been able to read one. It's such a thoughtful addition and indicative of this game's quality.
I have not played this game to completion so please bear that in mind. But I am confident in saying that if you're someone who loves HOPs that are not overshadowed by other features, you'll have a hard time finding a game to match it. Show less

For me this MCF is a successful continuation of the previous games. Of course you can see differences between Eipix and GrandMa immediately, but that's what makes the new episode so interesting. Personally I loved this game, it is a welcome change to the series that we all know and love. Is it a "proper MCF game"? Not really. However 21 games into the series, it is good to have a change before the formula becomes repetitive. However 21 games into the series, it is good to have a change before the formula becomes repetitive. As it is a GrandMa Studios game I was happy to see that their high visual standards were carried over into this game. While it did feel a little too colourful for MCF, I cannot deny the fact that the scenes were genuinely gorgeous. I hope that GrandMa can improve upon this great entry and make a true MCF game next time though. All in all, I would say this is a very fun and visually great game. However, if you want an older truer MCF game then go for an older MCF game :) Show less

So after reading the negative reviews I went ahead and only downloaded the trial. Well after playing the trial I bought the game. Look, it's not quite like the usual fare we get from a MCF game. I loved the mini puzzles, I enjoyed the graphics, the story line was ok and I loved that there wasn't so much toing and froing.
Yes I can understand why die hard MCF fans would be disappointed, as well as classic HOG fans, but I found it to be an enjoyable game and didn't feel that my money was wasted. Show less

The wait is over!! And I am not disappointed!! I am a huge fan of Grandma games and this is definitely their best yet. The ambience of the game itself very much reminds me of the early MFC games, especially with the familiar MFC theme tune constantly playing in the background.

Murders are aplenty, and many references/links to previous cases are in this game. If there was one criticism it would be the door puzzles are not up to the usual challenge ... which is a shame, however, it's still a cracking little addition to a much-loved series.

Seriously, GrandMa studios are one of my favourite HOPA game developers around and I’m so so happy they’ve been chosen to continue MCF. Seriously, GrandMa studios are one of my favourite HOPA game developers around and I’m so so happy they’ve been chosen to continue MCF. They did a fantastic job as per usual as Harbinger still feels very much like a MCF game but with the more vibrant colours and feel of a GrandMa game. Now I do understand the bad reviews as it does feel different to Eipix but honestly that’s a good thing in my opinion. Too much of a good thing eventually becomes boring so having an MCF game that’s slightly different is a refreshing change. I can not recommend this game enough! Show less

I was pleasantly surprised by this title. I expected a watered down version of what MCF use to develope, but this turned out rather enjoyable to play. Good story with little twists and turns to keep my interest peaked.
The voice actors fit their role, all but for the older woman. I even enjoyed doing the bonus content and I only do those if the game holds my interest.

Yes I know this is not the same MCF as before, but I found it very enjoyable just the same.
My brain might have been left at the door as someone said, or I might act like a teenager ( at 71 I doubt it but who knows?) but I had great fun playing the demo. It was easier and I loved solving the Cube for once without asking for a hint.

I used to purchase every new MCF that came out every year, but I've been so disappointed in them lately that I actually skipped the last few. I saw that the franchise had changed hands from Eipix to GrandMA and decided I would give it a shot. And boy am I glad I did! The puzzles were actually fun to play and I had to stop and think about some of them instead of just blazing through. I loved the mini-puzzles that were on the tablet that Master Detective carries around. LOVED the callbacks to previous cases and they weren't done in an overly obnoxious way like some of the previous ones were prone to do. Instead, they revamped an older narrative (I won't say which one in case no one wants spoilers) and gave it a fresh coat of paint in a way that actually made sense and it was done very well. For the first time in a long time with this series, I actually dropped my jaw a couple times with the story. So congratulations, GrandMA, you brought back faith to the MCF series and I will definitely be checking out the next one! Show less
