I would ordinarily given this game a 4-star rating but felt the need to bump it up to offset all the negativity. As the title says, this game is just as good or just as bad as you want it to be. IMHO it is just as good as any other game in this genre. Yes, some of the pics are pretty simple, but I don't particularly like a really complicated pic with teeny, tiney color spots that you need a magnifier for. These kinds of pics also take a far amount of time to complete which isn't necessarily relaxing to me. So this is a buy for me and I hope others will take a chance on this game as a result of my review. Show less

This version of the game is much better than the previous couple of offerings. It has a lot more pretty pictures (paintings, scenery, city scapes, etc.) and fewer boring (guitar, hat, etc.) or juvenile pictures.

There were two repeat (or almost repeat) pictures, like the "Birth of Venus" in the first set, and there were several still life pictures, though not as many as in previous games. There was only one butterfly, and not too many cats, dogs and flowers, though there were some of each. I am really glad there are no boots (or radios or holly sprigs or . . . ) heavily outlined in black! I was getting tired of those types of pictures.
After I got past the first set (not a promising start), things really improved. If they let you see the boards beyond the first level before you have to decide whether or not to buy the game, I think there would be more takers. If I had chosen not to buy the game, I probably would have given it only a 1 or a 2 based on the first level. Show less

As I have said in previous reviews of Pixel Art, if you are a fan of the Paint by Numbers games, you are probably not going to be a fan of Pixel Art.
People continue to say that Pixel Art images are sometimes blurry. I will admit that they are not as clear as the Paint by Number series, but they are made of of squares, all the same size. Paint by Numbers uses different sizes and shapes to complete their images so they come out more clear. For a Pixel Art image to be clearer, it would have to be made up of 10's of thousands of pixels. You will notice that the images with the most pixels are the clearest, but again will not be perfect without a lot more pixels.
People also note that the colors are dull whereas the Paint by Number colors are vibrant and bright. The colors on landscapes and animals in the Paint by Numbers games are not those found in nature and are not realistic. Pixel Art on the other hand uses more realistic colors on those types of images.
Again, Pixel Art does not highlight each individual square as does Paint by Numbers. Pixel Art actually forces you to find the squares, you know, play the game. It does highlight the squares for some numbers, and some numbers remain highlighted throughout completion of a level. I personally do not find this to be an issue. If the image is enlarged enough and completed in sections, every numbered square is easily found.
On a negative note, I have noted in past editions of this series that there are a lot of images that would cater more to a young audience, like 4-8 year old's. I would suggest packaging all of those types of images into one game and label it suitable for that age group.
I would suggest that if the Developers want to continue to make the Pixel Art series something gamers want to purchase, that they would read the comments and try to come up with more creative aspects to their games. I am certainly not saying that I want them to have the colors and pixel shading like that of Paint By Numbers. Just leave out the really simple, juvenile images and don't include so many food pictures and pictures of cats/lions/tigers. You have seen one, you have seen them all.
Finally, as I said earlier, and many times before, if you are a fan of the Paint By Number series, there is a strong possibility that you will not enjoy Pixel Art. The game play and images are totally different. You will either be Team Pixel Art, or Team Paint By Numbers!! Show less

2 Pixel Art games for Thanksgiving and 50% off sale. As usual I try the demo but never find any improvements. In Number 20 there are 2 very juvenile images and 3 of food in the first level. Not off to a good start. There's never any hope of getting to the next level within 60 minutes so purchasing is always a risk that I'm not willing to take anymore. Learning the hard way that only disappointment awaits, I quit buying long ago. And, yes. I'll keep submitting negative reviews when I see that no changes are made, the pics are still blurry, too small and disappear within a nano second of completion. It is tedious and boring, for me, to spend so much time filling in all the cells only to be rewarded with no satisfaction to show for it!
This game offers no options or features to make it fun. It really surprises me that the dev thinks it is okay, that everyone loves this "bare bones" game just the way it is. Granted, not everyone can be pleased, as we all have different tastes. But at least eliminate the finish-the-first-level issue and make an effort to enhance it with better pics and some features to show the game is worthy of purchase. There are other paint games available on BF with great variety of pics, gorgeous colors and fun features. There is no need to settle for less, unless painting is just something to pass some free time and keep your mind busy. Art makes me happy, everything about it brightens up my day, Sadly, Pixel Art just doesn't work for me.
Pixel Art may appeal to you in every way, so I won't not recommend it. You just have to experience it for yourself, if you've never tried it before. Show less

I don't mean to be disrespectful but the images have really tanked on Pixel Art games lately, and these have sunk to a whole new level of boring??? Grapes, hamburgers, and cookies shown on the BF synopsis says it all, and they don't get much better after that...Pixel Art games need to take advantage of a larger picture...get the bigger picture, don't just give up!

Grapes, hamburgers, and cookies shown on the BF synopsis says it all, and they don't get much better after that...Pixel Art games need to take advantage of a larger picture...get the bigger picture, don't just give up!

Pixel Art is a computer version of Paint by Numbers, in a pixelated version. Each pixel has a number that is filled in with its corresponding color/number from the palette on the right side. You simply left-click to fill in all the numbers with the correct color, you can also hold the mouse button and swipe through large groupings of numbers. The auto-fill feature will fill in large groups of pixels when you double-click on a cluster of numbers, but that feature has to recharge after each use. (a sound alerts you when the auto-fill feature is available each time)
Other than the auto-fill, there are only a couple of other features or options offered...the same original features, nothing new has been updated since the first Pixel Art game! There is a Slider Bar that allows you to zoom in & out (there's a "fit" tab as well) you can also move the entire page around by right-clicking and dragging. The most annoying feature that has yet to be addressed is the fact that you are forced to complete the first level before you can access the next set of images, rest assured, those images are dreadful too!
You can also change the color of the Highlighted cells to various shades of grey. This is the area that Pixel Art games fail miserably. With most games, the current chosen number/color is highlighted with a shade that sticks out in a crowd so you can easily identify where the available cells are located, even without a map location feature. For some odd reason, several numbers/colors are shaded at the same time in the same area making it impossible to easily spot the numbered cells you are working on. This has never made sense to me, for example, if you click on the number 10 from the color palette, all cells with the number 10 will highlight in grey but so will other numbers like number 21, and number 18 so you'll have to search for number 10 cells jumbled in with several other grey-highlighted cells. It's a frustrating feature that defeats the purpose of a Zen painting game!??

Just terrible...when you are finished the picture is so fuzzy you can barely tell what it is. The numbers jump all over the place and it is just plain boring.
