Does this game lack some things. Yes! I wish they would get much more COLOR into the pictures. That is the big flaw here.
Other than that,I love the way this plays. You do more of the work,it doesn't fill in automatically, but that is how I like it. It's how painting really feels. I find it much more enjoyable than the other kind. Now if we can only get that color into the pictures, this would be a

I have been waiting for another game in this series!!
Please Developers, do not make the changes recommended by the Paint by Number/Art by Number fans. That would just make this another "swipe around the picture and get a hint whenever you want one" no challenge type of game. Sure some of the colors are dull, but I'm not in it for the beauty, I am in it for the gameplay.
Also, the pictures do not "disappear" once they are completed. You can click on any completed picture and look at it.
The Paint by Number/Art by Number games are like a "Where's Waldo" game except he is is jumping up and down waving his hands and pointing to himself.
So Developers, please keep Pixel Art far from the format of the Paint by Number/Art by Number series so that we who are not fans of those games have something we do enjoy. Show less

I know it is popular with some Fishies to bash this series, but I always find them to be a great way to relax because you have to stay focused on the small individual numbers (I am a great Diamond Painting fan, so this is a logical extension of that albeit online...lol), lest you make a mistake. I find it easier to relax with these than other art series, although I do own most of the others as well. I agree with other reviewers of the series that the colors are drab, but to me the enjoyment factor is high enough that I still gave five stars for this game. Show less

I love this game but ohmygosh the colors are so dull! Brown and brown and some grey and some sepia and then throw in some beige. It's horrific. I love this game and each time I try one I hope and pray that this will be the one which will finally look alive. But no. Portraits from the Middle Ages with black and russet. Severe Russian winter scenes of white and light blue with tiny spots of distant people in black. Mushroom still lifes in tan and brown. Yes, one or two Van Gogh's but then a Mona Lisa and of course the usual brown and black and grey and tan. PLEASE PLEASE include some color!!!!! Show less

I chose to do the Beagle picture but couldn't finish it within the 60-minute demo. I chose the beagle picture because all other available pictures were way too basic and most were single pieces of fruit like a strawberry or a banana. I say "available" because once again, you can't even see the other pictures until you complete the first set...why? Are the next set of fruit pictures supposed to be a reward for plowing through the first group of pictures that no one would choose IF they had a choice? The beagle picture was made up of mostly browns & split-pea greens mixed with the avocado green appliance colors your grandmother used to have when you were a small child.
To make matters worse, there are no decent features, it doesn't have a Hint feature when you are desperate to find the numbers you somehow missed, and you have no way of telling just how many you missed because there is no Cell Counter feature. I find the lack of simple "comfort" features to be unfathomable at this stage, especially when every other pixel game has at least the basic features!
The thing that turns me off the most about this series is when you choose a number, 4-5 different numbered cells highlight at the same time, with slightly different shades of grey...how confusing! Shouldn't the only highlight coincide with the current number you are working on? Why don't they offer more images that include a background so we can color the whole picture?
There are no Why's involved when it comes to having fun so grab a compass and some comfy hiking boots, and head on over to The Woods Forum! Take the well-beaten path and take a right at the fork in the road. We've got a new Group Game Play reservation with your name on it so you might want to start trekking! thewoodsforum.boards.net Show less

Still no changes, still no purchase from me. I quit at number 10 and there has been plenty of time for the dev to read the reviews for each game and realize that something is wrong. It's amazing that not one of the very good suggestions would be considered. We love paint by number games but when there's no fun or beauty involved it, why bother?
The synopsis pics hint at some that interest me, I love animals. But upon seeing the first level I immediately felt that old deja vu. The same issue of having to complete the level before moving on still exists. That is so ridiculous and annoying! For me it is an instant deal breaker! There is no way to finish the demo to see the other images. It is impossible! So why do I want to buy something I don't even have the privilege of seeing beforehand? It's too risky to buy anything sight-unseen. Judging from my past purchase boo-boos, it was a lesson well learned from Pixel Art.
I wasn't surprised to find the fruit, was surprised to find the cute animals. I'm curious if the subject matter has improved at all but I'll never know because the first level prevents me from finding out. I hope the Pixel Art fans are happy with what they find and can enjoy adding this to their collection. The colors are still drab. For instance, the apple didn't look very tasty. Colors should be used to brighten, lighten, detail subjects to make them more than or as interesting as they are in real life. Not drab, pale, dark, etc. These effects don't make the piece fun to paint. I sampled the colors for each pic and they were all dull and lifeless which would result in a flat look with no depth or detail. Pixel Art usually has a huge array of colors but they not beautiful or used well.
I love the very full, complex images that are time consuming. They usually involve scenery or buildings that feature an over abundance of single pixels that each need a different color, or a stray from the larger groups. It adds a good challenge, also becomes tiring after a while. What I don't love are the various shades of grey used to designate the numbers in the area being painted. The closeness in color makes them hard to see and it is confusing because the grey areas don't apply to just the number you are working on. It's even confusing trying to explain it!
I've never been a fan of food, juvenile or objects such as clocks, cars, trains, furniture, etc. They are boring and never have a background, just plopped onto the center of the screen. The large complex paintings are great and mostly very appealing containing a multitude of colors. However, they fall flat at the end because the completed piece is so little and blurry that you can't enjoy the beauty you have just created. In addition it disappears from view so quickly, there is no chance to appreciate all that work and just enjoy viewing it. There are no fun options or colored backgrounds, if that's what you seek in painting games, This is very basic, all the way.
There are some who say the small pics and bluriness is to be expected because they are pixels, this is how it is. Well, that just is not true! I know that much more is possible with computer art and our other pixel paint developer proves that large, clear images are absolutely no problem. The colors are spectacular, the images are large and aren't gone in a nano second. The artwork is different but if you enjoy pixel painting check it out, fun features, 140 levels. There is so reason for poor quality images. It's all about the dev not caring enough.
If Pixel Art would make a few important changes I would jump back on their bandwagon. I can't get enough of paint by number games, they are so relaxing and fun. But I won't buy something just for the sake of growing my collection. Show less
