The first review is thoroughly accurate in depicting this delectable game. Although the topic involves horror, ritual and witchcraft, there is more to the story than meets the eye.

Now for the bad news. Although I gave this game 5 stars because it was thoroughly entertaining, it does have one critical error that I encountered. (SMALL SPOILER NEXT) While I was doing the ritual puzzle while in the mirror world, I left to see if there was anything I missed in case I left the world. When I returned to finish the puzzle, the game would not show the puzzle and I was caught in a loop preventing me from completing the demo.
Workaround, once your find the herbs and chalk to do the ritual, do not leave the puzzle until it's complete or you will have to start the game over. Critical flaw, but still a well-made game. Show less
I recommend this game!

For me personally an excellent game. I was already "thirsty" for a new good HOP game and i was not disappointed. The story is exciting and the minigames well done to innovative. I can't quite understand the criticisms, you can't completely reinvent the hidden object games, sure some things are repeated in the gameplay again and again, but the graphics and the stories are always a joy.

In this second entry in the City Legends series we are once again a mystery author turned detective, and this time it's to examine the legend of Bloody Mary, that face you do not want to see when you look into a mirror. Reality can be bad enough, but at least that horrible image that is you won't suck you into a mirror world and attempt to eat your soul. Mary, though, perhaps she ought to get a chance to tell her side of the story? And if how she got there casts ripples into your current world, perhaps you should listen.
Pros: A very generous amount of play, several excellent plot twists, good to very good voice acting. Plenty of mini-games best played in the selectable Hard mode, some creative riffs on the classical, some quite original. It is a non-linear game containing several points at which you can't go back to collect things or even to resolve sub-plots, so watch out - if you're warned, there might be a reason. Production values throughout are excellent.
Cons: The authors have fallen into a lazy practice we're seeing too often these days, leaving the exposition of various points of the story to notes written by various characters to no one in particular and under some unlikely circumstances - we have Mary trapped in a burning home, for example, taking time to write down a diary entry before she attempts to escape. Come on, really? And who writes a confession to a crime to no one and stores the note away?
Bonus Game: Lots of play in this one with several really enjoyable mini-games. Unfortunately the plot hearkens back to one of those irritating tropes wherein every character in the game from protagonists to the victim(s) to all the supporting characters is female, and so when the sole male character does finally pop up it isn't difficult to guess who the villain is. That little bit of misandry cost the writers a star. I thought we were over this.
Overall a very solid game, long and complicated enough to make the player work a little and with a resolution that makes sense. I look forward to the next entry in this series very much. Show less

REVIEW BASED UPON THE ENTIRE GAME
7 Chapters Plus a Bonus Chapter – Strategy Guide: 50 pages (My Time: 9 Hours)
Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary, (Oops! not going to say that name a third time!) Don’t want Mary coming through my mirror to sweep me away into the Mirror World! However, I did enjoy watching the game characters go back-and-forth between Mirror World and the real world, dealing with ghosts and a crazed warlock. This game is a wonderful ghost fest, a spooky little adventure involving a novelist in search of inspiration for her novels. Help this famous writer learn the truth behind the legends by uncovering the true story and the actual evildoers behind those legends portrayed in both the main chapter and the bonus chapter.
Do Games, AKA Domini Games (or whatever their company name is nowadays) is my favorite HOPA developer. By whatever name, they produce fantastic games! I love their games because they provide more game for the money. This developer provides a longer game than other devs, with more puzzles, more collectibles, and even a choice in the difficulty of the puzzles. The player can also play an optional Match-3 game in lieu of the HOP scenes. No other developer provides the quality nor creativity of this developer. To me, this game is one of the best games Do Games has developed this year.
Speaking of creative new features, this developer has added a new one within this game. This game gives the player optional activities throughout the game. The player is asked if they would like to visit another location where another puzzle or activity is presented. The player can opt out if they don’t wish to engage in the activity. I love this new feature and hope they will continue to provide it. Other developers should check out this new feature as well.
As in other games, this developer has three collectibles. The collectibles are trapped ghosts and morphing writing supplies (for the most diligent writer). These two collectibles alternate between scenes. Bookmarks are collected throughout to exchange for supplies to deck out a writer’s office upon completion of the game. My only complaint is the miniscule size of the collectibles. I could not even recognize the writing supplies and could only find them if I waited to see them morph. They are too small in appearance as are some of the trapped ghosts. I found the bookmarks in some locations were hard to see as well, although most times, they were easy to locate.
MECHANICS:
• Four (4) levels of play including a customized version.
• 35 achievements.
• Collect 15 items from a writer’s desk and 15 trapped ghosts within mirrors
• Collect 70 bookmarks to exchange for items to deck out an office
• 11 wallpapers along with concept art, music, and video sequences
• Replay 21 HOP scenes and 20 mini-games
BONUS CHAPTER: Our renown writer from the main game is off to La Llorona (crying woman in Spanish) Recreation Center to investigate the legend of the ghostly figure, La Llorona. The Latin American legend does not match up with the story portrayed in this game, but I can understand why the developer took the story in a different direction. This story involves another ghost and an evildoer involved in her death. I liked this chapter and felt the activities were comparable to the main game. Continue collecting the collectibles. There are four (4) HOP scenes and eight (8) mini-games within this chapter. I feel it is a good addition to the game and worthy of a collector’s edition designation
HOP SCENES: There are twenty-one (21) scenes all of which can be replayed upon completion of the game. There is also a Match-3 game to play instead of the scenes. One of my favorite parts of this developer’s games are the creatively designed HOP scenes. While most HOPA games include boringly similar standard lists of items (ho-hum), Do Games provides new variations for their HOP scenes. All are interactive with some well-designed scenes. Many scenes are storybook in nature, providing information about the storyline. There are many search-and-replace scenes or placement scenes in this game. Either the player searches for the items and uses them back within the scenes or is given an item to place within the scene. My favorites are the rebus scenes and there are two of them within this game.
There are also matching scenes. However, my only other complaint concerning this game are the lock and chains which appear if you click too often within the scenes. Please Do Games – Stop locking the matching scenes. The matching scenes require clicking on objects to uncover the items which are to be matched. How can the player find where items are hidden if you can’t click on all the objects within the scene to find them?
MINI-GAMES: There are thirty-three (33) mini-games, twenty (20) of which can be replayed upon completion of the game. Most of the mini-games can be played in an “easy” mode or for more of challenge, a “hard” mode. Very few of the puzzles do not have this designation. There are no puzzles, in my opinion, which are brain busters. In this game, Do Games placed some mini-games within the HOP scenes which I feel makes them more enjoyable to play.
HERE ARE SOME OF THE MINI-GAMES FROM THIS GAME: (E = Easy H = Hard)
A. E/H. Maze puzzle. Choose between 3 paths at the right time to traverse and exit a maze in the woods while avoiding ghosts. 3X
B. E/H. Assembly puzzle. Move the body parts of a plastic figure to match that of a given diagram. The easy version keeps the diagram in front of the player while playing the puzzle; in the hard version, the diagram must be pulled up to reference it.
C. E/H. Domino puzzle. Move domino-type pieces so that the ends of dominoes which abut each other have the same symbol on them.
D. E/H. Switch puzzle. Switch colored tokens and move them to slots of the same color by using gears to transfer them. The easy version has 4 colored tokens and the hard has 6.
E. E/H. Connection puzzle. Run wires between numbered boxes so the number of wires emanating from each box equals the number on the box. The easy version has smaller numbers on the boxes making it easier to solve.
F. E/H. Tangram puzzle. Fit all items into a box without overlapping the items. the easy version has added blocks into the box to help with assessing where different shaped items can be placed.
G. E/H. Strategy puzzle. Use machetes to clear a 10 x 7 (70 squares) grid of bushes. The easy version gives you 3 machetes and hard gives you 4. You cannot use a machete if you arrive at a place where there are no bushes in front of you to remove.
H. Chess puzzle. Using the “L” shaped moves of a knight, place 4 chess pieces on a square of the same color
I. E/H. Switch puzzle. Switch sides of swallows and eagles using paths to guide them to the other side. Different birds cannot stand on neighboring squares. The easy version has 3 of each bird and the hard has 4.
BONUS CHAPTER:
J. E/H. Jigsaw puzzle. Place pieces into position to create an image. The hard version has more pieces to place. (Optional puzzle within the museum)
K. E/H. Physics puzzle. Place billiard balls into the pockets on a billiards table. The hard version has more balls to pocket
L. E/H. Strategy puzzle. Zipline through the trees in this puzzle. Use switches to avoid obstacles in your path as you use ladders and walkways to maneuver between the trees.
M. E/H. Rotating rings puzzle. Rotate rings on the front of a ring to create an open space. A latch will release when the gaps are produced.
N. E/H. Tangram puzzle. Place wires on a 6 x 5 grid (30 connectors) so that the complete grid is filled without wires intersecting each other.

One does look around for item just like any other Hidden Object game so no surprises there. Some of the puzzles I didn't get what to do but that might be me. Some of the wording in what to find or directions were odd but since the makers main language is not English I see why that is, of course I never did good in any English classes myself so I should say nothing.
Voice actors were very good but there really is not much said.
Try out the game first. If you like it the rest of the game is similar and then buy it. Like Mikey said 'try it you'll like it' or something like that.

I swore I would never buy another Domini endeavor again. They've gotten too much of my money for me to be disappointed time and time again. The two biggest complaints about Domini games that I have noticed in the reviews are the repetitious appearances of the same stale tasks in each and every game and the retina searing color palette. Well, the usual over-abundance of purple and blue are here in this game, but they have been muted quite a bit and don't overtake the scene. The tasks are still stale- yep, the thorny bush is there...I knew it would make an appearance as soon as I found a glove. And I found a shoehorn (who finds a shoehorn?! "Oh, hey, look! I found a shoehorn!" I have never heard anyone say that in my very long life.) And why do I need the shoehorn? Why, to dig in the dirt of the thorny bush, of course. To find what? Toenail clippers. This is just an example of where Domini fails miserably. Stale tasks and inexplicable objects in inexplicable places. It's absurd. Why couldn't I find the toenail clippers in a desk in the museum- that makes much more sense. BUT, (hey, there it is, the 'Big But'), the puzzles have lots of new takes- excellent! I played them on difficult. And Domini always has great find 'ems which I personally love hunting for. The storyline- well, Domini did a much better job with Hidden Expedition: A King's Line. That was excellent because of the fascinating inclusion of history and the realism of the story (I have to admit, I really like the Hidden Expedition series). All in all, I am enjoying his Domini game being a writer myself. I enjoyed the first in this series as well- I chuckled at its cameo appearance. The musical score is very befitting. I wish their characters were less robotic and more fluid. The game is playing well. No glitches. I say to all you Do-Domini naysayers, of which I am definitely one of them, give this one a shot. There is enough going on to take your mind off the stale tasks so you can enjoy the game and very aesthetically pleasing graphics. Show less

Nope, you won't catch me saying her name three times! I've always been a fan of the Bloody Mary horror plot (although the big E did a better job story-wise) so for the story alone I'm giving this game an extra star.
I probably would have given it 5 stars had it not been for:
-a shiny inventory item buried in the dirt
-the use of boards, nails, & a heavy object
-feather dusters to brush away the impossible
-corkscrew, corks, belts, etc. as handles
-makeshift magnet lock openers
-keys on the opposite side of doors
-random smoke to fan away
-animals that don't budge until you scare the bejeebers outta them
-rulers that somehow fit between doors
-makeshift tweezers
-makeshift wrenches
-makeshift screwdrivers
-makeshift hammers
-missing water valves
-missing wheels
-instantly recharging devices
-wires taped with anything handy
-solvents that instantly remove dried paint layers
...and then I made it to the second chapter bwahaha

Collectibles & Morphing Objects (CE Version Only):
Do-h!, ya might want to invest in a quality control manager. The collectibles have different names depending on where you look! If you go to the Extra's menu, they have them listed as 15 Writer's Desk Items, 15 Mirror Traps, and 70 Bookmarks (as the currency). If you look at the pull-out Collectible's Tab in the game itself, they are listed as 15 Utensils, 15 Ghosts, and 70 Bookmarks. If you go to the Strategy Guide they are listed as 15 Collectible Photos, 15 Morphing Objects, and 70 Bills?? Are we searching for collectible ghosts or mirrors? Are we searching for vintage writer's desk items, photos, or utensils? Are we searching for Bookmarks or dollar bills to purchase Office items? I guess in the long run, it doesn't matter what they are called because they are so teeny-tiny that it's impossible to tell what you've collected anyway!

Hidden Object Scenes:
There are 16 Hidden Object Scenes +5 in the CE Bonus Chapter. The Hidden Object Scenes vary with Interactive Listed Item Finds, Keywords in Sentence Finds, Finding & Replacing Item Finds, Progressive-Interactive Silhouetted Shape Finds, and Multiples of the Same Object. One of the 1st HO scenes was on a computer screen with pictures that were so small it was difficult to find the objects...and I have a 38" curved Alienware monitor!
There is an alternate Match 3 Game available, which still doesn't allow you to make consecutive matches quickly because you have to wait for all tiles to stop falling before you can make the next match which makes the game super boring. It's always the same exact M3 game, the boards never change! They never add obstacles or new features to make it progress in difficulty. FYI: one of the achievements requires you to play the alternate Match 3 game in place of the HOS. (just once)
Mini-Games:
There are 26 Mini-Games +7 in the CE Bonus Chapter. You can choose to play them in an Easy or Hard difficulty mode and you can choose which mode to have them start out in the Custom Setting (you can still switch between modes for each individual game) I actually enjoyed several of the mini-games, although none of the games were original. I particularly enjoyed the mechanical-type puzzles where you make electrical connections, etc.
Bonus Chapter (CE Version Only)
A writer's work is never done so we're off to investigate another infamous ghost, La Llorona. There are 7 additional Mini-Games and 5 Hidden Object Scenes that take place over 9 additional scene locations. You will continue your search for the final 3 Utensils/Writer's Desk Items? 3 Morphing Photos/Ghosts/Photos, and 8 Bills/Bookmarks, I have no idea what they are called at this point lol to purchase the final Office Items.
Collector's Edition Extra's: (CE version only)
11 Wallpapers (basically giant photos of each character), 15 Concept Art Pictures, 5 Music Soundtracks, 28 Movie Video Cutscenes, 35 Achievements, 20 Replayable Mini-Games, 21 Replayable Hidden Object Scenes, 15 Writer's Desk Items,15 Mirror Traps, 70 Zoom-Zone Bookmarks to purchase 15 Office Items, 7 Main Chapters, +Bonus Chapter, and a Built-In Strategy Guide.

I actually liked this Domini game. What? Not Domini? You could've fooled me. Would have given 5 stars were it not for that dang purple hue (can't stand it!). Story line works. No keys breaking in locks (that's a first) and I am excited for another install of City Legends. So, yeah, for this one, I recommend.

Hello, friends! As usual, I review mostly on the game play and not the story line, but I do comment on that as well. The graphics in this game are quite well done, very clear. Colors are vibrant, but not over powering. Voices are well done, when we have them. Animation is very nice, realistic eye and mouth movements and the body movement is not choppy like most. Sound fx are practically nil. Mostly what I heard was the sound of wind and a chime when an item was found or something accomplished. Music was okay but got monotonous after a while.
HOP's were a variety of lists, place items, silhouettes and highlighted words. If you didn't want the HOP, you could switch to a Match 3. Scenes were fairly clear and items were not difficult to find. We do not have a pop up jump feature as such, but you can jump through the map. There is a lot of running back and forth form one area to another, so this comes in quite handy. The map does show you where you have missed a collectible. Puzzles were took time and thought to complete, and some a little challenging even in easy mode. I always demo in easy mode to get a feel for the game.
Collectible were varied as well. We have to find 15 morphing ghost pictures, which are very difficult to find. They are opaque, morph quickly and small. We also have 15 various office items to find...again, very small. The only collectible not hard to spot are the bookmarks...we need to find 70. You just have to remember to look for them. We use these to furnish the office.
The story line is nothing new and it was a very quiet game. We had minimal character interaction. The only challenge was finding the very small collectibles. Most games flowed well, so you knew where you were going or what you needed to do. This is not one of them. There was no real guidance, just a lot of running back and forth to other scenes. It's not a bad game, just not something I would jump at purchasing. That said, if a good sale comes along, I will get it, just for the challenge of finding the collectibles. Gave this one a 4.25.
As always, try it for yourself and see what you think. We all have different taste in games and this may be exactly what you are looking for right now. Play on! Show less
