The game started as if it was going to be another point and click. It turned out to be very interactive. Interesting puzzles, some are same old but there were I few that seemed different to me. Just the right level of challenge.

I was disappointed, as another reviewer mentioned, that there didn't seem to be an option to go back and collect puzzle pieces and collectables you might have missed. In fact there is. The is an 'archive' option on the bonus level which allows you to go back. Finishing all that gives a sense of satisfaction that is missing in games where it is all over and you have missed something. Show less

I like this game. Not like some of the older games from this series. Seems like there was less 'rooms' in this game as one goes back and forth between the rooms/scenes as you find items to help throughout the game .
Graphics were excellent. Story line was good and voice actors as well.

Was not to thrilling but I gave it a 5 star as it is better than most games coming out in the last couple of years so grated on a curve.
Not a long game but not to short for me. Most games I play an hour or two a day.
Try the free part first to see if you like it and if you do the rest is similar so you will like this game.
Review done after completing the regular game and bonus game.
No extra bonus in finding the collectable or puzzle pieces. Show less

I enjoy playing games by this developer. I enjoy playing games based on mystery this involved portals for a change and these make games more interesting because you can end up anywhere

The series has changed along the way but the stories are always reliable for a good adventure through the supernatural. Anna, carrying Daddy's head around is too weird for me, even though it's just a game. However, the games are usually very good so I have to overlook that.

Today's release is a good length for me, the CE is a bit short on the extras, the collectibles are sparse and easy to find. I may wait for the SE edition. I usually buy the CE for the guide and the BC anyway.

I really like that we have equal amounts of HOPs and puzzles. Not being a puzzle person, this is a good thing. I won't have to do a lot of skipping. I didn't find the HOPs very creative, they were pretty easy but I enjoyed the one's in the demo . The puzzles also were easy, I liked them, fun and colorful. Some were new to me, some were familiar with a new twist to them.

The graphics were just okay, the locations/scenes mostly dark. Characters moved in an odd way, their looks and voices have changed in quality over the years. Not so good now. Surprisingly, I miss Richard Gray along with everyone else. Without the humor he provided it does make a difference to overall enjoyment of the adventure.

I hope Elephant Games keeps the series going strong. Anna Gray and her supernatural adventures are interesting and fun to follow but not so weird with Daddy. I think it was a mistake to remove him! Show less

Just to add to another review written very well but with a mistake: Elephant cut out the replay of the HOP scenes and mini-games.

You find these in the Bonus section in the Archives.

Liked this game, but as said before, Elephant games are getting shorter and shorter.

I recommend this game!

I would have given this game 5-stars if Anna Gray was lugging daddy Richard's skull around in her purse! What is going on at Elephant Games lately? Not only is Richard still MIA, but the Morphing Objects are no longer available in any Elephant Game, and now the replayable Mini-games & HO scenes are MIA?!

First, they ditched Elf in the Mystery Trackers series, which was clearly the worse decision a person could make in a long-running, successful series. The ratings fell, and they haven't added a new MT game in two years.

Then they ditched Rick Rogers from the beloved Paranormal Files series. This series WAS Rick Rogers; after helping a ghost in the first game, he opened his own Paranormal Files agency. Fans are upset because they want Rick Rogers to return, but game after game, Rick is MIA, and fans are no longer fans.

Grim Tales is suffering the same fate. First, they surprised us with a long-lost daughter that Anna knew nothing about. That didn't seem to go over well, so they ditched the daughter. As a reward, Elephant decided to surprise us by ditching daddy Richard and replacing him with Mommy Dearest, Anastasia. What a disaster! Richard was sarcastic, funny, delightful...and clearly dead, but we loved him!

All three of these series have taken drastic turns, and all three have one major thing in common...Fans don't like the change and are begging Elephant Games to make it right...but they don't. How exactly did Elephant Games come to the conclusion that it was a great idea to ditch beloved characters, and who is making the decision to ignore the fans?

웃 Gadgets/Helper: 웃
Anastasia is a gadget and a helper. Whenever her Cameo glows, she has something on her mind...followed by a random inventory item she just happened to stumble upon. This scenario happens 6 different times in the main chapter, and neither adds to the story's charm nor takes away from it other than replacing a beloved Richard.

♪Audio/Visuals:♪
I've always loved the graphics in Elephant Games. Even though they took a drastic turn a few years ago, you can certainly see a shift lately with graphics that look more realistic and more up-to-date.

☽☾ Collectibles & Morphing Objects (CE Version Only): ☼
Unfortunately, there are no Morphing Objects...a huge disappointment :(
There are 12 Collectible Mismatched critters, such as a Catbird or a Chimeras. There are 24 Zoom Zone jigsaw puzzle pieces that allow you to assemble a Jigsaw Puzzle in the Secret Room, which can be accessed anytime. After completing the Bonus Chapter, you can search for missed collectibles in the Expedition Room.

◔ Hidden Object Scenes: ◕
The Hidden Object Scenes are better than they have been in the past, the objects are identifiable, and the scenes are clear and bright. They have the usual Listed Items, Silhouetted Shape Finds, Keywords in Sentence Finds, Swatches of specific areas in the scene, Descriptive Find, and Matching Pairs in a very colorful mushroom patch. There are a handful of small Zoom Zone HO scenes as well.

♙ Mini-Games: ♙
They tried to stick to a detective theme when it came to the Mini-games, such as reconstructing and matching fingerprints or moving Anna via a map. But they also included match 3 against opponents, selecting buttons to connect 2 circuits, pattern recreations, and catching flowers by anticipating the pattern of movement. I felt that the games were rather simplistic, such as rotating rings to recreate pictures. This is unusual because Elephant usually has more complex puzzles that require several steps to follow, which is one of the features I love in their games.

✯ Bonus Chapter (CE Version Only) ✯
It seems Lady A still has a few tricks up her sleeve, and it's up to you to stop her once and for all as The Keeper of the Portals! There are 6 additional Mini-Games and 6 Hidden Object Scenes, and you will continue your search for the final 3 Collectible Animals and 6 Jigsaw Puzzle pieces over 6 additional scene locations.

I finished this game in less than 3 hours hours. I even took a break to go get coffee and a sandwich, check the mail, and answer a few phone calls from work - still took me less than 3 hours. That includes playing the Bonus Chapter.

I also hate the new feature that stops you at the end of the Demo and makes you "reactivate" the rest of the game. Playing, playing, hit the breaks! I purchased the full version, so I have to Reactivate, then wait to download, download, download, install, then play. Just give me the full game when I pay for it! What gives??

HOPs were designed well, but fairly easy. Same with the puzzles. Puzzle pieces and collectibles were way too easy to find, and there were less than usual. No challenge.

Designers need to spend a little more time on their games and make them worth paying for. This one was way too short. I was looking forward to spending my day off playing this edition, but instead I am looking for something else to fill my day. Guess I'm off to Lowe's!

I recommend this game for Beginners, not for Advanced players. Show less
