At first glance, I thought this was just an ordinary Pixel coloring game. Five minutes later, I was so engrossed I didn't want the picture to be completed! At first glance, I thought this was just an ordinary Pixel coloring game. Five minutes later, I was so engrossed I didn't want the picture to be completed! This is no ordinary Pixel Art game; instead of painting individual pixels, you chisel the pixels off to reveal the color. There's just something gratifying about watching the boxes tumble and cascade downward; it's kind of like popping bubble wrap bubbles, ya see 'em and have to pop 'em, lol.

The pictures are available in Small, Medium, Large, and Huge..., all of which are unlocked and available to color in any order! These are interesting images with beautiful colors and a ton of landscapes available. Unlike the "other" Pixel Art game, you get to paint the entire image, not just a tiny bowl of fruit in the center of a gray page! You can use the Zoom Tab or scroll the picture larger with the mouse wheel. There are several tabs on the right side that allow you to change the cell color, the background color, and even the size of the paintbrush.

My first suggestion would be to change the color of the cells to a bright color that is easy to spot. I chose the teal color, which made it very obvious. I found that the color stood out so well that I didn't even have to zoom the picture larger. Remember, you are scraping the boxes off; you aren't filling them in, so it really doesn't matter how small or how large you make the picture because you aren't having to find a single cell to fill in with color. Don't worry; you may not be painting individual pixels, but there is an incredible amount of detail AND shading. I have completed several of the pictures, and every picture has incredible detail!

I would also suggest using the largest brush size; again, you are scraping the cells off versus filling them in. Go big and swipe away! Using the large brush size is especially helpful when doing the landscape pictures because, in my opinion, there is a ton of detail in sections. This is hard to describe, so you'll have to play to understand.

The best feature, hands-down, is the Grid Lines! The outside edges around the image itself have grid lines. The number of cells remaining (for the current numbered cell) will be shown within those grid lines. If you do miss a cell or two, their location is easy to spot by simply following the path of the vertical & horizontal grid (where they would intersect is the area the missed cells are located.

After completing the picture, you can sit back and admire the detail; it doesn't whoosh away as most Pixel games do. You can even adjust individual colors afterward by clicking the color wheel on the bottom right!

This one is different. I tried a couple of times to try to understand the concept of this game without luck. Then I read a couple of reviews which I found very helpful and tried again. My overall rating went almost from a 1 star but now giving it a 5 star. It is definitely challenging and totally different from the others. I do like all other Pixel Art creators.

I recommend this game!

I love the flexibility: you can choose which ever scene you want at any time and you have a choice of four sizes. This is great if you don't have much time and want to just do a small scene. However, you also have the option to come back to a large scene you don't finish and continue on with what you're doing. Once finished, you can choose to reset the scene and redo it on the same profile.

There are just enough tools to hit the fine balance between being too trivial and too tedious.

I also like the scenes and their subject matter. There are no pastry/cake scenes that make me want to raid my fridge, unlike in some pixel art games. Okay, admittedly I found the very first scene kind of ugly, but the rest of them are great to fantastic.

The music is relaxing. This combined with the generally relaxing nature of painting the scenes makes this perfect for my need to want to cool off after a stressful and intense work day. This is the primary reason why I do these art games.

What I liked a little less was how sensitive the zoom is, at least on my computer. With just a tiny touch of my touchpad, I could end up zoomed in all the way and it's actually tricky to control. Thankfully, there are buttons for zooming in and out, but it would be great if a slider was added to control the mouse/touchpad sensitivity a bit better.

Maybe my suggestion will be added to a new episode of this game? Here it just came out and I'm already hoping for the next one...

And thank you to Big Fish and Tiny Little Lion for releasing a pixel art game for Mac as well. There haven't been all that many recently, so that is a nice feature for us pixel art game fans. Show less

I loved this game. I won't repeat any of the earlier reviews but I would just like to jump in and mention a feature which hasn't been mentioned yet. There's an option to single click on a big area of like numbered cells and they will be filled in entirely. (A slight improvement on the Pixel Art function of double clicking - one less click is a good thing for me). Great for the big areas. I swapped ...Show more

I love this game: simple but addictive. I love the pixel art games but they can become tedious if they are too detailed taking too long to finish. But this game is quick and easier on the wrist [less repetitive motion].I can't wait for the next installment!!! Definitely recommend for those looking for a relaxing game that does not require a lot of thinking.

They are brilliant. This game far surpasses any of the others. I love how the cells fall away as you paint and how the color attaches to the cursor/brush. I love not dealing with individual pixels. It isn't a chore working on the large images, no endless searching for a few last "stray" cells.

There are so many features and options that make this game such a pleasure. Being able to change the cell colors is so helpful. Red, purple and teal work best for me. The grid around the image eliminates that awful grey and black background that we always disliked. The background color outside the grid is changeable.

No locked levels, paint the pictures in any sequence. That's something I really appreciate. No single images plopped in the middle of the page, they fill the entire area. The images are pleasing, interesting, of good variety. After the picture is completed you can view it as long as you like. It doesn;t shrink to a tiny size, it isn't blurred.

I could go on and on about this excellent pixel art game. But I'll stop here by saying that Tiny Little Lion is a superior dev. They put so much effort into their creations. I've never been disappointed with a purchase. Paint By Pixel is another fine example of their appreciated talent and creativity. Show less

I agree with penmom36 that there is something satisfying about the boxes flying off the screen. However I prefer to do these art games using my stylus rather than my finger or mouse. So while I really enjoyed the demo, I will not be purchasing this one.

I don't have that problem with any other game so I'm thinking its the game, not the computer, but the real issue there is that it does not save the progress. I really don't like that I have to start over from the beginning when i was almost finished. There should be an auto save function like most games have. Relluctantly I would say buy but try it first.
