Yes, in this romance, lovingly animated by Friendly Fox, you must actually connect with the god of practical jokes in order to free your transformed lover and Loki's sweetheart from a curse and prevent the destruction of the world. Even chief god Odin should not be missing, who will give you a helping hand.
It's always amazing what new stories FF tells, which are then presented with grandiose graphics and suitably animated characters.
The not too difficult HOs and puzzles were mixed well and didn't overload the game, so that there was a nice flow of the game. I liked the puzzles with interactions best. Each puzzle or HO was different, so there was a wonderful variety here too and it didn't get boring.
Animals were also hidden in the individual scenes, which were easy to find. The morph objects, on the other hand, were sometimes hard to discover. Sometimes it was pure coincidence that you found them.
In the bonus part, a separate story is told, which takes place 25 years later. To make it more believable, the actors (after all, no gods except for Loki) should have aged a bit. The bonus part is quite short and doesn't justify the price of a CE in my opinion.
With (for me) almost 6 hours including the bonus part, the game has a nice length overall.
Conclusion: Finally a game without glitches. A wonderful game for people with a sense of romance. Show less

Love the Spring flowers in this game. Yellow, purple and white crocus, tulips, snowdrops and hyacinth. I liked the theme in the story. Ulf has a wonderful manner. I'm using the lovely waterfall screensaver. I did find some interactive scenes. In Alfheim by the stairs touch the crocus and see what comes out. I can click around to my hearts content in the hops. Loved all but one hops. In the bonus chapter it has a check the differences with one page without color, really didn't like. Some hops are used more than once but I didn't mind.

I did like paint by symbol, jigsaw, potion making, pairs, target timing, maze, pop up book hops and overlay hops. Didn't like the play from the collectibles. Rather hops or pairs.

Morphs were ok. I click on them before they changed, and I rather see them change. I don't like to wait around for them to change.

The bonus chapter is 25 years later.

Has 5 chapters + bonus, 8 wallpapers, 8 concept arts and 5 screensavers. Replay 17 hops, 30 movies, 11 mgs and 6 music. 97 collectibles ( morphs and animals). Excellent indicator. Show less

Short and sweet.
Another great game from the Immortal Love series. Since I'm a fan of everything related to Nordic mythology, this game absolutely captivated me from start to finish and bonus. It has a bit to do with Thor-Asgar etc. Just the title I didn't find any polar lights here. Actually, it's mainly about Loki and his love. But you can play it without any instructions.

I recommend this game!

What will we encounter as we travel into the world of gods and magic? This CE has lots of achievements and very well hidden collectibles which makes it a great purchase if the story doesn't falter. In the demo I wasn't burdened with a bunch of bothersome tasks which was surprising. It moved along at a good pace. The graphics in the game's introduction were so pretty, colors were deep and beautiful. But after the game began they seemed to fade somewhat. Characters were nicely rendered, voices were good, Ulf as a giant black wolf was handsome instead of frightful.

I enjoyed the demo HOPs and puzzles. HO scenes were rather dark, some items very small and hard to recognize. Loved the interactivity. Puzzles were great. There's a good amount of both which is really nice, as we usually get a crazy number of puzzles and not enough HOPs, imo.

I was happy to move more into the story and was hoping to see the Shining World with it's gods and magic. I didn't expect to see polar lights in that realm but anything is possible in a fantasy game. The demo was pretty good. But I always wish for more of the adventure to help me with the decision to buy the game. If a good sale comes up I would definitely opt for the CE with it's generous amount of extra content. Show less

My review is based on playing the demo only, coupled with my experience with the developer and the series of Immortal Love games (both of which get very high marks).

My review is based on playing the demo only, coupled with my experience with the developer and the series of Immortal Love games (both of which get very high marks).

Seeing as how I married into a family of Norwegian ancestry (and love Nordic myhtology), I will buy this game - my only decision will be whether to buy the CE or the SE. Incidentally, while none of my immediate family have Norwegian names, we do have a Guyda, Ingeborg, Clara, and Torlif among our ancestors.

Here are my concerns as well as what I liked about the CE version of this game:

1. I think the wallpapers are particuluary weak.
2. I love the concept art, but it does not appear that this can be saved to my computer.
3. Screensavers are good, but screensavers are not needed on modern computers.
4. I liked the music soundtrack. which can be saved.
5. I think the rest of the extras are good and generous, which is a trademark of this developer.

I recommend this game, but in which version (CE or SE) I 'm not sure.

I suggest that you wait until the SE comes out, or, at least, until someone submits a review based on the entire game, before making a final decision. Show less

REVIEW BASED UPON THE ENTIRE GAME
5 Chapters Plus a Bonus Chapter – Strategy Guide: 42 pages

Skol! Travel to the magical world of Nordic legends, the Shining World. Lovebirds, Astrid and her fiancé, Ulf, venture to a market to sell wool to finance their wedding. However, their nuptials will be delayed when they are involved in an accident and Ulf is transformed into a wolf. The god of mischief, Loki, is responsible for transforming Ulf into a wolf, insisting it was an accident. However, was it truly an accident or did Loki have ulterior motives? Astrid, accompanied by the god Loki, will enter a fantasy realm, the Shining World, to find a way to find a way to transform Ulf back to his human form. If not, Ulf may be key to the prophesized end of the Shining World, a prophecy called Ragnarok.

This is a decent HOPA game. However, I found some of the story too complex for a HOPA game with too many locations and characters within the story. I still cannot figure out if the Alfars were elves or humans. And where are the Skalds located? The pace is decent for most of the game. There are a few places where I felt the game became tedious and dragged down somewhat. To me, it appears extra activities were thrown in to make the game seem longer. Less is more sometimes, and this game has filler which could have been left out. In my opinion getting rid of some of the extras would have made the game flow smoother and made it more enjoyable.

There are two collectibles, animals, and morphing objects. Most scenes have two of each. I found many impossible to locate in some scenes. They are so well-hidden and some I could not find them, even with the help of the strategy guide. I just ended up clicking on the scene until the collectible was discovered. If all of them are collected, a painting puzzle can be played upon completion of the game. I love most of this developer’s games.

For me, this is not their best work. With a rambling storyline coupled with repetitious and tedious activities, this is one I give a lukewarm rating. What this game has to do with polar lights is beyond me. There is no mention of anything related to either the North Pole or the South Pole within this game.

HOP SCENES AND MINI-GAMES: There are thirty (30) mini-games and thirty-one (31) HOP scenes (from what I counted). Some of scenes are what I consider mini-HOP scenes in which six or seven items are located. Eleven (11) mini-games and seventeen (17) HOP scenes can be played upon completion of the game. The HOP scenes include standard lists of items, matching pairs scenes, fragment scenes, and silhouette scenes. When the wolf amulet is used, a matching HOP game pops up. There are six (6) of these scenes within the game and they progressively become more difficult. As the game progresses, the items must be uncovered and switch places after each turn.

The mini-games are varied. Some have a casual and hard version of the puzzle. However, I did not find any of the puzzles, even in the hard version, very challenging. The puzzles are variations of those seen in other games.

MECHANICS:

• Four (4) levels of play including a customized version.
• 30 achievements with 9 having 3 parts.
• Collect 49 animals to unlock 5 animal figurines upon completion of the game.
• Collect 49 morphing objects.
• 8 wallpapers with 5 screensavers along with concept art, music, and video sequences.
• Replay 11 mini-games and 17 HOP scenes.
• Gimmicky wolf amulet which is used to summon skalds.

BONUS CHAPTER: It is a sequel set 25 years after the end of the main game. Loki’s love interest, Sigyn, has forgotten him along with all his other acquaintances as well. Loki is suffering from the curse of the Skuld. Upon receipt of a letter from Loki, Sigyn remembers him and is off to reunite with him and discover who is causing her and his other friends to forget him. The main players from the main game return in this chapter. The chapter is long with various activities. There are eight (8) mini-games and seven (7) HOP scenes. The collectibles continue being collected within this chapter. I feel this chapter was decent and worthy of a collector’s edition rating.

SPOILERS: HERE ARE SOME OF THE MINI-GAMES AFTER THE DEMO:

A. Connection puzzle. Switch hexagonal tokens on a grid so they link together.
B. Assembly puzzle. Scroll 3 wooden statues, each divided into 3 parts until they match a given diagram. Moving one segment affects the others.
C. Maze puzzle. Find parts of the castle in the dark and reach the castle through the maze. Also locate all parts of the lock.
D. Rotating rings puzzle. Rotate rings on a grid so that the left part and right part of the grid match and are symmetrical.
E. Paint by number puzzle using embroidery. Choose colors to embroider based upon symbols on parts of the picture.
BONUS CHAPTER:
F. Checkers puzzle. Remove hearts situated upon a grid so none remain. Jump over a heart with a heart of a different color to remove it.
G. Assembly puzzle. Rotate rings to restore an image. Show less
