Now that she's inherited his home, she's beginning to discover there are many secrets that her grandfather was hiding from her. She's quickly learning that his stories might not be as imaginary as she once thought. Travel to the world of Arden and save it from destruction in this fantastical hidden-object puzzle adventure.

I just finished the complete game and part way in wished I'd purchased the CE. This game was wonderful for my tastes. I play late when my brain is not peak performance so I prefer some challenge but not hard core. I played in custom mode- no tutorials but minimal penalties and recharges etc. I prefer to decide how much challenge I feel like enduring rather than let the game punish me, so I appreciate Custom mode. I like the ability to decrease sparkles frequency vs turning it on/off.
This delivered perfectly for me. A nice balance of HOPS to puzzles, well-designed and functional map (the last game the to-do icons stopped appearing early on, super annoying). Skip, recharge/hints all perfect. Didn't require restarts when I switched on/off full-screen, something that really irritates me.
Sound and voices are nice and nothing detracting as sometimes is the case. The game flows very well, the story is cohesive and creative beyond the time-worn evil villain/wizard/witch vs princess/prince/king/queen scenario.
The artwork really sets it apart for me. I would categorize it more comparably like fantasy comics vs the classics like nouveau, deco, baroque, noir, atomic etc. The colors are sharp, balanced and delightful. The designs are elegant in line and form with great depth and uniqueness. So refreshing. A wonderful departure from the ubiquitous grody, gloomy bug-infested, yuck strewn, dilapidated stylings or the "blurple", blue-magenta-purple deep, high-saturation colors, both of which I like in measure but sometimes make me crave a breath of fresh air. This really delivered me from that into a place of expansive refreshing visions. Not too much gadget reliance, nor any silly critters- again I don't hate those things, but sometimes they can be over-done. It's nice to play a game that feels less encumbered and stifling.
I found the puzzles easy to challenging enough to not be boring. I used the hint maybe 3 times max to figure out where to go -- ie I couldn't intuit from my inventory or options what next. But mostly it was fluid and fun all the way. It was generously long, although I didn't time it. It seemed to keep going when I thought I was about at the end, another round of things to do and another, but not tediously so. I was grateful it didn't end as soon as I was thinking it was going to but not to the point where I was anxious to get to the finale.
I wrote what was probably a better review before but somehow when I closed the preview I lost it. argh! Almost didn't bother rewriting it but I felt in the face of the luke-warm star rating this deserves it. I would say Amaranthine Voyage: Legacy of the Guardians ranks among my favorite of games I've played of late, and am so glad I gave it a try despite being put off by low ratings for a long time. I encourage giving it a try if my review resonates. I'm only sorry that upon looking for more, it seems this was the second to the last Amaranthine Voyage from Eipix. This was by far my favorite of the series and I'd very much welcome more games like this.

- Story: Phantasy Story. It seems, you have inherited the burden to be the guardian of Arden. You have to protect the amulet of your grandfather at all costs. Faith of both worlds - Arden and Earth - depends on you.
The story is a little bit boring. May be, I’ve played too many games – it seems, the stories are going to resemble themselves: A hero defends - one or more worlds - against some evil sorcerer or kings or megalomaniacs. There was nothing new. No surprising twists. No humor.
- Difficulty can be customized in all criteria: Tutorial, sparkles, map issues, glitter, contextual pointer, plus item indicator, helping texts, penalty and hint / skip recharge.
- Graphics/locations: great. Very imaginative and fitting.
- Music, animation, voice-overs: high standard.
- Tools: you have an interactive map and a magical amulet.
- HO’s: Usual types such as riddles, description, silhouettes. Slightly interactive. From my point of view, they improved during the game and were finally quite nice. You can switch to a bubble popper game.
- Mini games: Some were interesting and not that easy. Nothing new, but nice variations.
- Adventure part: Playing w/o helping texts was quite demanding. It was not very obvious –after all however logical. I tried to play w/o hints, but had to use one.
As is customary 5-8 locations were to be investigated.
- Specials: none
- Length: I needed nearly 6 hours for completing. Show less

You might want to think twice before you pick up what you think of as a family relic or heirloom because you might never know where it will take you and in this case you could just happen to be whisked away through a portal to another world. As usual, at least in the more recent Amaranthine Voyage games, you play as Eve Glover so it really shouldn’t be a surprise when you encounter an alien capsule in your swimming pool. Almost immediately you step through a portal and into the world of Arden where you find out more about your recently departed grandfather than you ever thought possible.
This developer has almost always presented games with excellent and crisp graphics but unfortunately Legacy of the Guardians isn’t one of them. The graphics seem to be a mixed bag of the original old style with lots of mistiness and then at other times we have crisp and clear scenes. It is my feeling that perhaps the developer was trying to emulate the graphics of the first two games in the series. Aside from the graphics we have voiceovers that are also not too great. Some are very stilted and I felt like I wanted to poke the speaker to wake him up so he could move on.
Where this game becomes excellent, at least for me, is with the puzzles that are quite different than usual and challenging. I have loved spending time solving them. The HOP scenes were varied, with some being interactive and multi-level. There is one HOP that is very different as we move from one room to another to find the objects we need. Even with graphics that are not quite up to par, the puzzles and HOP scenes override that shortcoming. I started playing the game yesterday and am still not quite finished.
The CE version does offer a few extras with collectibles that are sometimes difficult to find. Unfortunately, even though I did purchase the game, the extras are probably not worth the extra cost. Where the CE always becomes a great value is with the in-game Strategy Guide that can be very helpful if one is stuck and needs a bit of help.
The Amaranthine Voyage series is one that for me has been either hit or miss. The original early games in the series were very good but some of the later games have really not been that great. Of the newer games, Winter Neverending is one of the better ones. Although the game is not stellar in some respects, the puzzles and HOP scenes make it one that I believe deserves a high rating. Even though I purchased the game, please try the demo to see if you will find that Legacy of the Guardians is one you will enjoy. Show less

Amaranthine Voyage did not disappoint me. I just started the game and I just had to buy it. It has the portals - but how else can you get to another world. And the puzzles - they are so good. I just love this game - would have given 5 stars but somehow it didn't have the sharp graphics like the previous games of the same name. However, enjoyable and enchanting game.

This type of game (science fiction, space related) is not something that I would even consider playing, but I still wanted to try it because you never know about something until you at least try it, right? Well, I did manage to play 50 minutes of this game and I am surprised that I lasted that long. Still, here are my pros & cons:
PROS
1. An interesting storyline that I'm sure will attract some gamers.
2. The voiceovers are good. Good lip-synch and the voices were very clear and distinct.
3. The music was appropriate for each scene, but sometimes a little 'out there'.
4. A transporter map that is easy to navigate/read (although you don't get the map right away, which could be considered a con).
5. The mini-games/puzzles (I think I encountered three) were somewhat on the difficult side, although there was one where you had to connect the black holes to its power source that I thought was rather interesting.
6. The HOS's were a little challenging, but not that hard to figure out.
CONS
1. Like I mentioned above, the transportable map doesn't appear at the beginning of the game, but shortly after. I like games where I get the map almost immediately.
2. The cutscenes were blurry, the colors drab.
3. The music (IMO) could also be considered a negative because it was somewhat distracting. I like the volume up a little when I play games because I like to hear every aspect, every nuance. It adds something that I think makes a better game. But sometimes, the music can be distracting.
4. This is not my type of game, at all, so I'm putting it in my CON section. This is just MY opinion only.
All in all, for those of you who like this type of game, you will find something that you like about it. Me, on the other hand, not so much. Show less

Long and drawn out- I honestly couldn't wait for the game to end. Easy mini games but not bad. Hard to keep track along the story line.Too much of the game you are endlessly running around in circles. Many of the items you find it is hard to figure out where they go.

I recently purchased the Collector's Edition of this game because I needed another CE for the BOGO sale. Today, since the SE was released for TGT (that's a lot of abbreviations) I tried to play this game, picking up where I left off when the demo ended. This game is just so boring and so unappealing folks! The graphics are bland, and lack vibrant colors that you'd expect to see on an alien planet, at least in my imagination. The gameplay itself just isn't interesting, not in the least bit, if a game can't draw you in, what's the point of playing. I couldn't even force myself to finish the chapter, much less the rest of the game, but for those of you who are determined to give this game a go, here's the scoop on Legacy of the Guardians.
Grandpa always had the wildest imagination when he told stories of another world on a distant planet. Eve always loved his stories, but she's quickly discovering that these stories were real, when a sphere arrives one evening at the house her Grandfather heired to her. (which happens to overlook the space needle, remember the MIB movie) The people of Arden have come to Earth, to ask for the Guardian's help, which by default, is now Eve Glover! The Realm of Arden has been imprisoned by a device they created to stop the vicious cycle of War that has plagued them for eternity. The device or Chalice, was designed to stop wars using logic, and it determined that the people's free will was responsible. In a strange twist of fate, the Chalice began to either eliminate or imprison the people of Arden using their very own guards!
Amaranthine Voyage was a spectacular game for the first couple of episodes, because the storylines were fresh and new. Lately, it just seems that they are rehashing stories from all the other games, slapping a new title on it and presenting it as new. This isn't really even a game, it's an interactive movie, which sounds cool, but it's just kind of boring. It took about 40 minutes before the first HOP or Mini Game was presented! The entire beginning of the demo has you doing mundane tasks (pick up all the library books) watch cutscenes or hear a ton of dialog, etc. This would all be okay if the storyline was different but it's not, it's been way overdone, flipped over, lathered, rinsed, repeated and charred some more! As a CE, really the only "extra" you get are 38 not so hidden Signs which look like a galactic trophy to me.
Eventually you will be equipped with Grandpa's trusty Spectral Medallion which allows you to activate portals that have already been established, after you play a Mini Game of course which is a variation of "pipes" where you rotate honeycomb shaped tiles with different pipe connections, to connect a star to each of the black holes. The Medallion can ironically act as a weapon as well, as personal protection against the guards by matching pairs of shapes located around the medallion. Everything eventually needs charged (I guess other advanced planets haven't discovered an unlimited source of energy either) and so does the medallion, by holding it over charging spheres that just happen to be available when you need them the most.
The Hidden Object Scenes lack imagination of any kind, most of which are Interactive list finds, some of which pan the scene to offer one section at a time. The only one that was slightly interesting was an Interactive, Progressive Silhouetted Shape Game where you find an item that matches the Silhouetted Shape and use that item interactively in the scene to expose the next item, and there were two different scenes available to toggle between. There was also a Silhouetted Shape find that had pictures of two items for you to find the item that the two pictures combined would make such as a woman + a fish = mermaid. In the Collector's Edition version, each of the 13 Hidden Object Scenes have a Morphing Object to find, a feature I also dislike because I want the challenge of finding them in the game itself not the HOP. The CE also offers an alternative to the HOP which is a Bubble Shoot game. Normally I love Bubble Shoot games, but this game was pretty difficult to aim and the balls were difficult to see which color it is inside the shooter.
The Mini Games were actually challenging and some were new to my surprise. Below are brief descriptions of some of the games you'll encounter during the demo:
1) Connect the star to each of the black holes by rotating the honeycomb tiles in a game similar to "pipes".
2) Place all 10 gems on separate tiles using directional arrows to move the emerald cubes which carry two gems each. Cubes drop the gems into empty spaces only.
3) Align each set of colored symbols, by rotating and moving to their matching symbols in each corner.
4) Select matching pairs located around the Spectral Medallion, to activate it's defense mechanism.
The Collector's Edition has 16 Achievements to earn, (note:one achievement requires you to disable the tutorial so you'll have to enable the tutorial first, when you set up your profile and choose the difficulty mode) 9 Music Soundtracks, 12 replayable Videos, 18 replayable Mini Games, 13 replayable Hidden Object Scenes, 13 replayable Bubble Shoot games, 8 Concept Art pictures, 8 Wallpapers, 38 Collectible Signs, a Souvenir Room to revisit scenes and collect souvenirs, a built in Strategy Guide, and a Bonus Chapter. This game is a take it or leave it kind of game. It's not a bad game, it's just a middle of the road game, especially when comparing it to some of the earlier AV games. Some will inevitably love this game and others will loathe it, but if you have to choose one over the other, this is the better version because the CE just doesn't have enough to offer. Show less
