Okay detective put on your black leather gloves and travel to Bordeaux France for your next assignment and prepare to encounter Saint Germaine, the sinister dwarf of Haunted Legends as you investigate eight murders of the Marinite Monastery. Upon arriving and learning the history of Stephon Astor from Abbot Dominic and you examine one of the items from Stephon's house. This item which you call "the eye" isn't a magic artifact by itself but just one part of another one. According to "Haunted Legend" the Astor family possessed a mirror of truth which can only be activated by placing on it a dozen such EYES. The only way to discover how the mirror works is to find all the eyes....CREEPY! When you meet the Cardinal and save his life he tells you of the story that took place 20 years ago when he made a terrible decision without examining the facts. A decision that almost costs him his life if not for you. He reveals a secret to you that Stephan Astor is a powerful Mage. During a search of his home the Cardinal discovers a magical artifact "the EYE" which Astor never denied belonged to him, yet couldn't prove he hadn't used it to harm others. The evidence subsequently resulted in a death sentence which was later pardoned. However, during the 20 year sentence Father Dominic was charged with the responsibility of hiding the secret artifact in the Marinite Monastery. To keep them hidden a key was split; Father Dominic has one half and the Cardinal has the other. Together they reveal the hiding place of the artifact. You can start your investigation when you research the court documents stored in the secret cache in the monastery. Take the keys and find the documents. OH, and I trust you can keep a secret....... Who is the Black Hawk???
This is an exceptional addition to this paranormal puzzle adventure series. You will encounter some familiar characters that we loved in the last edition, THE IRON MASK. Find out all the secrets to this ingenious investigation as you emerge yourself in the award winning Haunted Legends: The Black Hawk. This subversive and sinister series deserves the Editor Choice title. True, it's no secret that ERS is my favorite developer, but gamers of every level are in for an awesome adventure that will blow your mind! Everything about this edition exceeded my high expectations, I think it will exceed your too. Cheers!

Just played the demo and even though I'm not a big fan of dark tales, this game seems so far to follow a logical story line and the graphics are very good. It's not too hard which I like. Games are for fun; not for stress. It was the Daily Deal for $3.05 Can, so I had to buy it at that price and it does seem to be a good game. Especially for that price. So far I enjoyed it.

This game certainly didn't hold your hand, you had to work at it. I played on Custom mode so I had set the hint and skip to refresh really quickly otherwise I would probably still be playing it. Things didn't work real smoothly here and a in a couple of HOS I just couldn't get them to work right, but after awhile worked them out.
Transporter map was small and confusing since it didn't really show where the next place was to go...it just gave you sometimes up to about 5 places...way too much work so I just used the hint to move around.
Puzzles were OK...I'm not a puzzle player so I played some and skipped some so I'm probably not a real good judge about whether they were good or not. HOS could be difficult and items hard to see at times. Not sure if it was my computer but the game seemed "sticky"...that's the only way I can describe it. Never had that trouble with other games.
I certainly wouldn't recommend this game for first time players, but it would present a challenge to seasoned ones.
Graphics, voice-overs were excellent, although dark at times. Show less

I really enjoyed playing this game.
The storyline was very interesting and the game itself was fairly long with quite a few mini-games which contributed to the length of the game. The character of St Germain has already featured in a few games in this series so I look forward to doing 'battle' with him in future games.
I would have given it a higher rating overall but the ending was a bit

I have really been wracking my brains on how to post this. It started out so good and then either the quality of the game slipped or I got bored, which can go hand in hand. It's a good game and with a few tweaks it could be an awesome game.
Graphics were well done. Pretty much on the same scale as all of these in the series. I did enjoy the voice overs. There is a lot of the story in the cut scenes as well as in the hidden object games, so that sound is important. Effects went along with the action in the scene and the music wasn't intrusive.
I enjoyed the level of challenge to a point. The hidden objects were varied more so than in most games which I like. It wasn't all silhouette or list, but a mixture of those and stories with things to find in the drawings during those stories. Quite enjoyable. The mini games ran from simple to, what in the world do I do here! There is one about a column. I still don't know what I was suppose to do with that one. There were a couple that like that. I thought I understood, but when I started playing, nothing happened, except I hit the skip button after trying everything I could think of to accomplish the task. Some things didn't have any instructions at all. I just had to figure out what they were looking for. Those weren't major minis, but things that I had to do. Thankfully they weren't hard to figure out.
My biggest disappointment was in the map. Other than transporting you it is is worthless. Maybe I've become to accustomed to the map showing where things can be done, but not in this game. Reminders of when all the maps did were show locations and you had to remember where to go. It shows objectives, but that's no help if you haven't the foggiest idea where that someplace is to go to accomplish those objectives. I used my hint button in this game more than I have in many a game, just to figure out where to go. There are several degrees of difficulty and I played the custom so the hint and skip would charge faster.
The story got kind of convoluted along the way. It's a long game and maybe my mind started wondering, but it started off really good and had me hooked from the very beginning. However, as it progressed it didn't make too much sense. Even the ending left me somewhat wondering what I had just done. Not a horrible story, but there seemed to be a bit of the continuity lost along the way.
This is a great game and like always, I suggest you try the demo and decide for yourself. It is of a supernatural nature, but it was good enough for me to buy. Yes, I broke the promise to myself not to by anymore in the genre, but this game is worth it. Show less

After 20 years in prison, Stephon Astor has served his sentence and is now a free man. The question is, are the men responsible for his imprisonment free? Francois Charlie from the Secret Service has asked you to conduct an investigation at the Maronite Monastery. Eight Monks disappeared shortly after Stephon Astor was released from the Temple prison, and the citizens are demanding answers after seeing 8 freshly dug graves the following morning! If Stephon Astor is responsible for the death's of these Monk's, why would he commit such a heinous crime against these innocent men of faith? Perhaps they aren't so innocent, and perhaps you are working for the wrong side, who knows? Whoever is responsible, he has a clear message, "He who is born in fire, shall die in it"......
I just don't get it. Haunted Legends games are all the same, and they all have forgettable storylines. Do you remember what the last game was about? Offhand I don't, I can remember bits and pieces of several of their games, but none of their games stand out, and not one of them fall into my "gotta have" game list. The graphics are always the same, they always take place at night, the buildings always look the same and the characters always look and sound the same. The dog is always going to be heard barking in the quiet ambiance of the evening (which btw can be heard in the distance even though I'm standing two feet from a rioting mob) How many ways can this game present the same story? They all involve a single man who systematically pecks off one citizen at a time, and it always turns out to be because the citizens are corrupt, and the victims are usually Mayors, members of a Secret Society, or Wealthy, so who is it this time, bet I can guess!
In the Collector's Edition, there are 35 Collectible Tokens which allows you to rebuild the Family Castle heired to you, and there are 34 Morphing Objects as well as the usual Achievements to earn. So far, I have not had to use one of those memory catchers that most of these games feature, but I'm sure I'll need one eventually.
The Hidden Object Scenes have items that are way too small in my opinion, just another reason to give this game an average rating. There are Interactive Silhouetted Shape finds, Fragmented object finds and even zoom zone HOP's with Multiples of a single item finds. The only creative HOP offered in the demo was finding 3 symbols related to each paragraph in a story.
The Mini Games are average, some super simple, some are available in Casual or Hard modes of difficulty. Below are brief descriptions of some of the games you'll encounter during the demo:
1) Restore the image by rotating two rings around a stationary center circle.
2) Drag the marble along the chute from top to bottom without touching the walls, to ring a bell.
3) Arrange the tokens so they match and line up with their corresponding symbols.
4) Release all the fingers by clicking on them, clicking one finger may affect other fingers.
5) Open the gate by swapping stars with different amounts of points according to the clue.
6) Arrange the white disk symbols according to the symbol pattern shown on the cage.
7) Open all drawers by replacing the missing portraits, using tools you find inside of the drawers to help you progress.
8) Click on directional arrows to gain enough momentum to swing towards a knife conveniently placed.
9) Adjust lock pillars to clear a path from fist to shield.
The Collector's Edition has 35 collectible Tokens to purchase parts for the family castle, 34 Morphing Objects, Wallpapers, Concept Art pictures, 4 Screensavers, 4 Music Soundtracks, replayable Hidden Object Scenes and Mini Games, Achievements to earn, Movies, a built in Strategy Guide and a Bonus Adventure. Honestly, the last two games in this series have vastly improved in the plot department, but nothing else offered, is new or exciting, pick any one of these games, you probably won't notice the difference. The graphics are very good in this game. The hidden objects and mini-games are okay, but the game seemed very slow in some spots and there was no teleporting. I set my game to custom so I could use the hint key in order to travel as most of the time it seemed to be unclear where to go. There was a lot of back and forth that made the play uneven. I don't recommend it for beginners.

I did complete the game although with some effort to stick with it. I bought it primarily because I remember enjoying The Iron Mask. The setting of Medieval Europe is a favorite of mine.
There was something in the gameplay that I found disjointed therefore it was easy to lose the thread of logic and sequence. Without logic and sequence we turn to our maps for direction. Locations are displayed with a moving hourglass so off we go to search these areas although by now we are no longer sure why or for what. Then we refer to our hint buttons which take us right out of there and through various other scenes which by now are becoming more and more dreary.
I love solving a good mystery but I also like to be entertained along with the challenge not beaten over the head with menacing tentacles. (Or having my sense of logic ignored.)
On the brighter side: The HOS were varied, colorful and challenging.
Some of the games were the sort where you have to use your cursor to hammer nails or shovel dirt. They involve the gamer in the physicality of the game.
Also, our ghoulish little friend, Saint Germaine. makes his appearances which provide an odd and disconcerting sense of comic relief.
The ending, when it finally came, seemed too abrupt and promised of more to come. I doubt I will be joining in.
It could have been a good game with a bit more editing and is certainly not a bad game.
So play the demo and give it a try. We all have different tastes.
