The music was also great, and I listened to 75% of it.

The ghost theme this time is of a ghost looking for someone he loved, but going mad in the process and creating mayhem. No kids are involved. It's all grown-ups.

I just finished playing The Evil Inside, and it was a fantastic game from beginning to end. (not yet finished with BC but seems equally as interesting) I've always been a huge Haunted Hotel fan, which was an original Big Fish Games Studios production until Elephant games took over its production in 2013 with their first release of Haunted Hotel #5 Eclipse. Elephant Games, formerly known as White Elephant also took over production of the Mystery Case Files, which in my opinion, is when these games really began to take root. I preferred the Collector's Edition over this Standard Edition, because of the CE bling, which is why I'm only giving this game 4 stars. Here's a recap of my review to help you decide which version, if either is right for you:
The Ghost Seekers have invited a special guest host on their latest paranormal investigation of the Alexander Valentine Hotel. Rachael Collins didn't have to pull any strings to have her cousin join the team however, because James is certainly no stranger to the paranormal field, especially when it comes to Haunted Hotels! By the time James arrives, the entire team has disappeared, and he soon realizes that this Hotel holds many secrets, and even more haunted ghosts. The XV Hotel gained a seedy reputation long before it became a Hotel, dating back to 1927, when the entire Valentine family was found viciously slaughtered! Now James is left with no choice but go it alone, to save his cousin from the Evil Inside!
I was a tad bit disappointed with this 15th edition of one of my favorite series, Haunted Hotel. I own every game in this series, including the 3 original Haunted Hotel games that are only available in Standard Editions. I was disappointed that after the last 2 incredibly epic storylines, they took a step backwards, with just a run of the mill plot. I still love this game, but it pales in comparison to the last two games in the series. The second disappointment I have with The Evil Inside, is that for some reason, these devs decided to offer a stupid gimmicky device called Patrick, an acronym for Paranormal Activity TRacker & Interactive Computing Kernel. Why oh why, oh why did they have to do this to my beloved Haunted Hotel???????
At least they didn't mess with the CE bling, HH never disappoints, because I can count on the fact that they offer some type of Morphing Objects, and always in the game locations NOT within the HOP's which is a feature I loathe.The CE version also has 20 hidden Puzzle Pieces that will form 4 different Screensavers when all have been found, Morphing Collectible Business Cards to find as well the usual Achievements to earn.
The Hidden Object Scenes vary with each one, with Interactive List Finds, Interactive Silhouetted Shape Finds, Listed Items that uncover Fragments, and one of my personal favorites, where you move objects two at a time, to Match 2 of the same items hidden within. There isn't an alternate to the HOP's, but they are fairly well done HOP's with decent graphics.
The Mini Games are all doable, although a few of them are fairly time consuming. Below are brief descriptions of some of the games you'll encounter during the demo:
1) Reveal only the symbols that are shown on the left by flipping tiles, clicking on one tile may affect others.
2) Use Patrick to scan the scene for 7 orbs that can't be seen with the naked eye. (this is me shaking my head <<O>>)
3) Move the knobs on Patrick to focus the image. <<0>>
4) Align the image shown on Patrick with the correct location in the scene. <<0>>
5) Place metal pieces on the disk so that all of the cells are filled, using the rotation button to correct the angle of the pieces.
6) Use directional arrows to guide the ball through the maze.
7) Restore the image by moving horizontal and vertical puzzle strips on Patrick's screen.
8) Find 7 more hidden orbs using Patrick <<0>>
9) Swap adjacent tiles to restore the image shown on Patrick.
10) Swap adjacent tiles in yet another Patrick game <<0>>
11) Direct arrows so that the 3 balls will land on the top spaces at the same time.
12) Move picture pieces into the correct spots using arrows to rotate the pieces that will rotate each time they move over a circle.
13) Move the tiles to adjacent empty slots to reveal the compartment.

You're sent to rescue a paranormal investigation team from a (you guessed it!) Haunted Hotel. Cue creepy old house exploration with disturbing sound effects and spooky sights.
The Haunted hotel series has had me hooked since the X because it specializes in the haunted house genre and as such, does it fantastically well. This game was no different, but after playing several of these I've noticed some weaknesses that really need to be dealt with, or else the series will fall flat fairly soon.
The good:
*Scenery is mega creepy
*Soundtrack is dark and makes my flesh creep. Yay!
*Gameplay is flawless most of the time (there was one game where I had to use objects in a purse to find other objects, and this froze up and had to be skipped. This is rare in the HH series though).
*Games are long
*Atmospheric HO scenes with a good mix of easy and hard things to find. You enjoy exploring these.
The bad:
*There hasn't been a strong storyline in the rest of the series apart from Eternity and X. Even the X petered out at the end.
*The minigames are lame, repetitive, utterly unoriginal. I skipped them all. Elephant really needs to create a new feature to replace these stale games with, or else give them an overhaul to make them exciting again.
*Arriving at the hotel and getting in: these sequences have become so familiar that they almost put me off
*Tooooo many loooocks! Locks inside of locks are a cop-out and we all know it. Think up something else, Elephant! Even replacing these secondary locks with more of the excellent HO scenes would be a better use of energy.
All in all, it's a low 4-star game: a decent way to spend a creepy afternoon but it could be up way with the 5 star games, if Elephant made just a few tweaks. Show less

This game is one of the easiest for which to write a review that I have played in a long time. It is, quite simply, a well-done product.
The graphics are excellently rendered, as are the background music and sounds, the effects sounds and voice-over narratives.
The HO sequences and mini-games are sufficiently challenging without requiring too frequent use of the hint or skip buttons.
The map is a very useful and user-friendly tool, as is always the case with games from this developer.
I’m not a real big fan of gimmicky tools —which you already know if you’ve read any of my other reviews— but the ghost-hunting gizmo in this game is not very obtrusive or annoying, so I’ll not complain too much about having to use it to find, well, ghosts of course!
While I do recommend this game, I also offer my usual caveat; play the demo and decide for yourself. Show less

* Voiceovers (with dialogue);
* Casual, Advance and Hardcore modes of play;
* Interactive map;

The graphics are good. Its quite darkish and grey but I feel that it added ambiance to the game. There are plenty of scenes to explore and lots to do.
Sound is good and the music is orchestral.
The hidden object games are interactive straightforward, silhouette and finding 6 pairs. These are easy to do and each one only takes a few minutes.
There are a good variety of mini-games - some of which are slightly harder. I enjoyed doing these and played them all. None are too hard or frustrating which would make you want to skip them.
You have P.A.T.R.I.C.K which is a gadget you use to help you find hidden places. Each time you use it, you will play a mini-game - like rotating tiles to get in the right order, etc. One of them was quite tricky which took me a while to do.
So, do you get the CE or SE? The bonus game carries on a short time later from the main game which is is about James and Rachel helping her colleagues' ghosts to RIP. I quite enjoyed the bonus game. There are 25 morphs and 20 picture pieces to find throughout the game and bonus. However, these are very easy to spot and a hand comes over them anyway, so no chance of missing any. There is also an achievements board. At the end of the game, there is a Secret Room where you need to find 4 cameras, 8 EVP recorders, 12 ghosts, 16 skulls, 20 Valentine's Portraits and 8 P.A.T.R.I.C.K trackers.
All up the game, bonus and extras took me about 4 hours or so to complete. Its not a difficult game to play, so you can just chill out and play without too much thought process.
Overall, not a bad game. Happy playing fishes. Show less

As an expert in the paranormal field, you have been invited by the top-ranked TV show “The Ghost Seekers” to join them on their investigation at the Alexander Valentine hotel. However, you arrived at the hotel to find that the crew has gone missing. Are you ready for another terrifying adventure in this fifteenth edition of Haunted Hotel? First of all, Haunted Hotel XV: The Evil Inside is one real creepy game (as it should be). The storyline might not be anything groundbreaking, but the haunting atmosphere captivates you from beginning to end. The game focuses less on random jump scares and more on subtle, but extremely effective, nods toward something sinister. You may also enjoy how the storyline slowly, but strategically, unravels. The creepy atmosphere was brought about by the top-notch production. The visuals are incredibly detailed and the muted colors add to the appropriate gloominess to the environment. Elephant Games also continues to deliver stellar cut-scenes and animations, no disappointment here. Additionally, the suspenseful background music also takes the spooky factor to a whole new level! For the most part, the gameplay of Haunted Hotel XV: The Evil Inside is standard. The adventure portion is neither too simple nor frustratingly difficult, the hidden object scenes are satisfyingly challenging, and the puzzles offer a nice mixture between some traditional styles and a few creative ones. The game also includes a gimmicky gadget called P.A.T.R.I.C.K (which stands for Paranormal Activity Tracker & Interactive Computing Kernel). The device allows you to spot traces of paranormal activity and reveal hidden locations – which is similar to other HOPA game gadgets used in a similar manner. Haunted Hotel XV: The Evil Inside falls on the short side when it comes to the length. The main game takes just a little over three hours to complete. If you decide on the CE version (which I did) you can play the bonus chapter for another 40 minutes. I would like to add that, the bonus section might justify its Collector’s Edition price tag; a strategy guide, wallpapers, concept art, soundtracks, screensavers, re-playable hidden objects, re-playable puzzles, a secret room, achievements, collectibles, and morphing objects are included. With 15 editions in this continuing saga, it's remarkable that casual gamers still want more? If die-hard fans continue purchasing I presume there will be. Haunted Hotel's popularity has suffered from lack of innovation, recycled game play, and re-use of paranormal gadgets. I enjoyed this installment mainly because of storyline even if this series isn't as popular as other creepy adventure games. Cheers!

I believe I have all in this series. This one was different than the others, but very enjoyable just the same. It is a fun game.
Graphics were very well done. Colors were dark in nature, but that goes along with the theme of the story. It is a ghost story after all. The one big difference in this game and the previous ones was the voice overs, or lack thereof. It seems in the other versions there were a lot more of them explaining and adding to the story. That was a bit of a disappointment, but nothing I couldn't live with. The music and effects went along with the action in the scene.
I enjoyed the hidden objects. They were quite varied, from silhouettes to lists to finding matching pairs. This variation kept it interesting. The map was extremely helpful. Although there wasn't a lot of back and forth as we see so often, when there was the map would show where there was something to do and would transport me there. Most times when I found something to add to the inventory it would be used in that scene. Not always, but it seemed to happen quite a bit. There is a gizmo, P.A.T.R.I.C.K., which would help me detect abnormal activities. It morphed into mini games as the game went along and I lost interest in it. So far as mini games went, I didn't see a lot we haven't seen before, but there was variation to them. I don't like mini games, but I did attempt them and even completed a few. Some I simply could not figure out what to do. I had the difficulty set on custom with the skip and hint set at the quickest times, so I didn't spend a lot of time on the minis.
Others will go into depth about the story so I'll not bore you with my rendition. James is my hero and it was so nice not to have to go put my high heels on to play the game. I wish the developers would come up with more male heroes. There were a couple of miscues in the story and the action. I spent a considerable amount of time getting gasoline for a van in which to make our escape. However, at the end of the game, we drove off in the car in which I arrived. Just thought that was funny.
This is a good game, but as always, play the demo and see if this fits your taste. I liked it and I think you will too. I know we're all tired of ghosts and such, but this series is about such things, so I wasn't bothered by it at all.. this time. Show less
