I cant believe the ratings aren't higher for this game. I totally loved it. Get transported to South America! The beautiful scenes, the mini games and HOS, the great Mexican voice overs and characters. Loved it!

Based on the completed game: When I reviewed the CE for this game, which is what I actually purchased, I knocked the rating down somewhat because the bonus chapter, while enjoyable, was too short in my opinion, & went on to state that I'd rate the main game four stars easy, which is true. :D This particular Myth was a bit of a departure for me, in that there was more of the "A" in HOPA on display than I'm used to seeing in this series. This is something I've noticed these devs doing consistently of late, & it's a change I like, as it requires the player to pay attention & carefully investigate their surroundings. Along w/ this, there are a good variety of HOPs, & an assortment of mini-games that just happened to suit me really well in terms of variety & range of degree of difficulty. I'm a tad hard to please in terms of the latter, as I want to be sufficiently challenged w/o feeling like I want to beat my head against the wall, but I got lucky w/ this one. It bears pointing out that the demo didn't really lead me to expect that; rather, I was expecting the more or less laidback gameplay I've come to expect from this series. It may also bear pointing out that while the majority of my experiences w/ this series have ranged from average okay to really good, there have also been (in my opinion) some real stinkers, one of which I deleted w/o ever even finishing. This particular one was a winner for me, though, so I highly recommend doing the demo if you think that this game might be to your taste, as well. Happy gaming, all. :) Show less

Graphics and sound, especially the voice overs were very well done. Music was really pleasant if you like Mexican music, which I do. Effects went along with the action in the scene.
Hidden objects were clear, for the most part, and varied. That was the saving grace of this game. I did the mini games until I reached the bruja. After that I could not figure out what to do, in the majority of the games. Some were way beyond my understanding and most beyond my patience level. I don't like games that repeat themselves with a slight variation. With all the back and forth the map was essential for me. It showed where there were things to do and transported. Once at the bruja, I became so confused as to what I needed to do, where I need to go, I relied on the trusty hint to show me. Thankfully I had my setting on custom and only had to wait 15 seconds to find out.
This story was like there was a committee established to write it. There just didn't seem to be any continuity in what was going on. First I'm at a fiesta for the dead, then I'm traveling to other worlds to save the queen of death. I still don't know what was going on. I just wanted it over.
Others will go into the story in depth so I won't do so. I am just so disappointed that this, my favorite developer would turn something out like this.
Normally this is where I tell you to try the demo and decide for yourself, but the demo just scratches the surface of this game. After the demo, it's a whole other ball game. You have been warned, but do try it. This may be to your liking. Show less

Your sister sends you a postcard welcoming you home in time for the Day of the Dead Festival after you have lost your job. You arrive to find you are expected to work your stay off by making decorations for the fiesta, such as a marigold wreath and a decoratively painted sugar skull. Having completed your tasks, you hop in a fisherman's boat and are almost capsized in the lake on the way to the island where the festival will occur. Luckily you plug the hole, help bail, and arrive at the island in time to see demons descend on the populace.
Good stuff: There are HOPs, mini-games/puzzles, colorful artwork, collectible scorpions, and assorted CE bling.
Bad stuff: My usual gripe about the logic: Sister dear greeted you already dressed for the festival. As soon as you decorate a wreath with marigolds, she leaves you to work out the sugar skull and takes a boat to the island. You have to repair the amulet out of your suitcase, the one your sister had given it to you before you left home. You need to use it to open a diary that has been at the house all the while you were gone. Naturally a replacement piece for the amulet is waiting on a shelf for you. The good news is the recipe for the sugar skull is in that book. If you hadn't come home with the amulet, the festival would have been a bust!
By the time I had greased something with hand cream, used a diorama wheel for a heavy cart, and blown a door open with the insides of a large firework wrapped in paper, I was ready to run from the slowly moving story that had actually not told me what was going on!
There was a puzzle diorama that told a story about an Aztec Princess and her Prince. They are both now dead and, in theory, reunite for the one night of this festival. But that does not help with the current crisis.
The demon soul fishers have joined the festival and are harvesting the local residents.
There seems no connection between the Aztecs, the opening animation of a figure that wants to eliminate death, and the rapidly dwindling population trying to celebrate the Day of the Dead.
Since there seemed no reason to continue, I was quite relieved when the Demo ended so quickly.
If I have to choose between Eipix's more usual dark artwork and a good story, versus bright artwork and an MIA story, I would pick the dark. At least a coherent story might put some sense into this muddle.
Please play the Demo for your self.

Like most other longtime running series by this dev, Myths of the World, is spiraling downhill. There hasn't really been a game in this series with at least a 4 star average rating since The Whispering Marsh near the end of 2015, which barely got 4 stars. Behind the Veil is a very beautiful game, but in the end, it's just another cookie cutter Eipix game, with nothing new to offer, yet every cliche feature you'd expect. Here's a recap to help you decide which version, if either, is right for you:
Behind the Veil certainly won't overload your cerebral cortex, however, the occipital lobe is a whole different matter. I don't recall any Eipix game having such bright, beautifully vivid graphics. (perhaps my hippocampus needs some neuron stimulation) This is a very short demo, I still had a half hour left on the demo clock, which leads me to believe the game in it's entirety is probably short as well.
I have to give these developer's credit, when and where credit is merited. I think they are finally beginning to realize that we are no longer content to accept cookie cutter, sub par games, that are being released at a breakneck speed, with minimal attention being paid to the details, and with repetitive story lines that barely have a plot. In the past, it was difficult to tell one series from another offered by this dev, but the tides are turning, just a wee bit, and it's clear to see they are trying to see what works and what doesn't. I think they are getting there, improving the graphics is a great start, but I think they are having difficulty leaping over the hurdle to create a different kind of "bad guy."
At first, this game looked promising, but in the end, it's just another floating spirit seeking revenge on an innocent town, and whomever happens to be in the right place at the wrong time. In my opinion, the "bad guy" should never be revealed during the demo. Instead, the villain's character should be mysterious, and the plot should thicken just before the end of the demo, we should be left saying "I've got to find out who or what is responsible!"
Myths of the World has another myth to unveil, a death defying myth. A myth set out to prove that you cannot die if there is no Death to claim your soul! A myth that begins to unveil on the island of Alma, as they prepare for The Day of the Dead celebration. But this celebration won't be very festive, once the unwelcomed dead arrive.
Oh no! We have yet another otherworldly gadget at our disposal, the Xolotl Blade, powered by the Lapis Stone, which, you guessed it, needs replaced and recharged after each and every use! In the Collector's Edition version, we also get to search for those infamous Hidden Signs, the same offered in all the games by this dev. It sure would be nice if this feature was tweaked, at least once in awhile. This CE version also has the standard Eipix feature of only offering the Morphing Objects within the HOP's, a feature I love, just not when they are offered only in the HOP's!
Some of the Hidden Object Scenes, I must admit, are actually quite good. I particularly liked the stone disk HOP where you had to rotate the disks to align the different pictures shown. There are also Listed Item finds, Multiples of the same type of Item finds, and even smaller Zoom Zone HOP's with Silhouetted Shape finds. In the CE version, there is a Morphing Object available within most of the HOP's and there is an alternate Skipping Stones Match 3 type game to play as an alternate.
The Mini Games are average and lean towards Easy to Medium difficulty. Below are brief descriptions of some of the games you'll encounter during the demo:
1) Match the keys with the correct keyholes based on the shape of the handle, using directional arrows to move between locks.
2) Follow directions on a recipe.
3) Display the pendant parts that make up the full pendant, select red buttons to scroll through the pieces without duplicating displayed pieces.
4) Arrange the soldiers and tribesmen in combat so that a shield is always blocking a sword, by swapping tiles.
5) Select the correct symbol for each shadow fisherman to push them away from the prince.
6) Match the fruits with their corresponding plates.
7) Move token along the grid to make their lines overlap with the pattern drawn in the background.
8) Destroy all of the connections between the knots by selecting only 3 knots.
9) Stack all of the sombreros together starting with the largest and ending with the smallest.

My initial impression of this game was the utter simplicity of it, the graphics, the primary colors, finding the flowers, repairing the boat, cooking the syrup for the skull. It seemed designed for 8-year-old little girls.

That was until I got to the stone disk HOP where you had to rotate the disks to align the different designs and/or pictures shown. I couldn't recognize any picture or design... neither the ones I was supposed to look for nor the ones I was supposed to find by turning the disks. That was the point I gave up, because I wasn't liking the game well enough to try anymore.
Other than that, I'll just say ditto to everything pennmom36 and granny_gruff had to say. Show less
