Edge of Reality: Hunter’s Legacy is the fourth game in this fantasy series from 4 Friends Games, and in terms of mood and tone, this one seems to be the lightest. Unlike its predecessors that tended to sway towards the darker side of the fantasy theme, Hunter’s Legacy has a fairytale-like quality that I did not expect from this series, which for me was a wonderful surprise. The storyline sure does feature action-packed sequences, evil creatures, and plenty of dark magic, but there is enough whimsical details to balance out the all the darkness. This doesn't take away any of the game’s merits, since Hunter’s Legacy has an extremely well-told plot and the pacing is on-point.
A five star game cannot only rely on the strength of storytelling alone, it needs a strong gameplay to back it up as well – and Edge of Reality: Hunter’s Legacy does both. The gameplay offers the perfect level of difficulty for me; especially the puzzles. The hidden object scenes and the puzzles are in the same veins, enjoyable, but not extremely difficult so that you become frustrated or resort to skipping some of the puzzles. The game includes two extra features, that unfortunately do not really add to the complexity of the game. The first feature is the dog helper, which is surprisingly adorable and wasn't annoying during gameplay. The other feature is the Main Cube, which can be used to capture magical creatures upon the completion of Match 3 mini-games. Yes the Main Cube is a "gadget" yet for this adventure it adds to the game IMHO and doesn't distract.
4 Friends Games continues to deliver a stellar production with this new game. The visuals are downright gorgeous thanks to the incredible artwork and the stunning details in each scene. In addition, the appropriately magical soundtracks are effective in creating an immersive experience. If you aren't familiar with 4 Friends they produce these wonderful series: Bridge to Another World, Living Legends, Immortal Love, and their brand new series Dark City London.
I recommend the CE version because when it comes to value for money, Edge of Reality: Hunter’s Legacy is worth the CE price tag. The main game took us slightly over four hours to master, and the bonus chapter added another hour of solid gameplay. The Collector’s Edition has the bling; a strategy guide, wallpapers, concept art, screensavers, soundtracks, cut-scenes, re-playable hidden object scenes, re-playable puzzles, achievements, and collectibles. I really enjoyed this game and I love the series. I hope 4 Friend game fans will enjoy this edition too. Cheers! Show less

I counted 13 hops and I had to consult the guide (only in the CE) a few times for some of the mini-games which I liked. You have all kinds of different creatures in the game. They have plenty of match three in the game, that you have only so many moves to fill up certain symbols.
I liked the throw back to one of the games from this maker Living Legends: Beasts of Bremen. They also made Bridge to Another World and Immortal Love. It has 5 Chapters. Show less

This review is after purchasing and playing the entire CE edition. I absolutely Loved this game! It started out fantastic with the adorable little doggie with the seaweed and then a fish on his head and his smile made my day! It was right then that I knew I would be buying the game in CE form which I don't normally do but I was having so much fun playing the game. I was not disappointed, the game was fun from beginning to end!
I'm at a point in my life now that I want to enjoy fun, adorable, whimsical things and forget all about things that stress me out. This game did that. The game is on the easy side which I normally like so I can just sit back and enjoy without stretching the grey matter but, at times it is a wee bit on the too easy side by actually telling you what to do, I could have done without the hand holding. It's the only negative I can find and it's not really that much of a negative.
I loved the hidden object scenes, the puzzles were pretty good and I managed to do most of them which is a bonus for me because I usually skip a lot of them. I thought the graphics and scenes were very well done and the music was appropriate for the scenes.
If you are looking for a game with exceptionally complicated puzzles or hard mini-games and/or if you don't find an adorable puppy dog as a helper fun then this would not be the game for you. As for me, it was perfection!
I highly recommend this game

The game has been artfully presented.
For all who have a liking to the seeking, saving fantasy creatures from an evil character this will fit your taste.
My 5 star rating is due to the excellent work the creative team accomplished.
My favorite treat from the game was the Superhero, Ash.

STORYLINE
For generations, Julia's father, Eliot, and his two brothers, Abe and Rick, have been protecting the magical, mythical creatures of Ireland. Now, Julia has inherited her Uncle Abe's lighthouse, as he judged her the most qualified to carry on the family's work. Julia will have some help from Abe's friend, Casey, and the adorable Corgi, Ash…but will also face a formidable adversary intent on harnessing the creatures' power.
GAMEPLAY
The goal is to return all the creatures to the magic cube that serves as a safe sanctuary for them, since it actually contains a pocket universe. To accomplish this task for each creature requires beating them at a version of Match-3 which specifies a certain number of each color token be collected. (No, I'm not sure why the creatures have to be convinced to return to their sanctuary.) Once a creature is returned to safety, Julia acquires a onetime use of its powers.
The HO scenes have various presentations: interactive list, silhouettes, pictorial, find clues on a map, words in a narrative, images through a telescope, find and replace, and multiples. For the most part, the objects are actually hidden and the interactions are cleverly designed.
Mini-games are varied; some are familiar and some are original. The challenge level varies from "fairly simple" to "requires thought and strategy." Some of my faves:
• Choose stars to eliminate them so that the stars that remain have the same number of interconnections as the number they bear. Three levels of increasing difficulty.
• With Ash's help, navigate the alleyways of Dublin, using items you find to overcome obstacles.
• Move and rotate six mirrors to reflect three colored light beams to the center crystal.
• Swap photo halves among three screens until all hunters, creatures, and dwellers are grouped correctly.
• Move five creature tokens to their matching spots using five different preset paths. (Much more challenging than the usual "move tokens" puzzle.)
• Move three colored marbles to the center of the maze, using each one to open and close gates as needed.
PRODUCTION
The graphics are pure eye candy with a varied, mostly natural palette. The details in close-up are thoughtful and quite beautiful. And animation is done well. The music is beautiful and nicely accents the game's theme. Voiceovers are mostly excellent.
EXTRAS
The CE bling is comprehensive with quite a bit of extra gameplay. You can replay HO scenes and mini-games, and the bonus chapter is fairly long. In addition, if you collect all the hidden Fabergé eggs, you're rewarded with a complex, multi-panel, find-and-replace HO scene. I think it took me nearly an hour to complete it.
CONCLUSION
Hunter's Legacy is one of the best HO games in recent memory. It offers an original storyline with plot twists and a stunning climax. The gameplay is varied and the overall challenge level is excellent…not so difficult that it's frustrating, but not so easy that you feel cheated. The production is gorgeous and the extras make this CE-worthy. Brilliant job, 4Friends! Other devs should take notice.

Although I still like the original Ring of Destiny the best, This is a really good Edge of Reality addition to the series. I do have a few complaints, I wish the opaque collectible Eggs in the CE version were a little more challenging to find, and I and grew weary of the repetitive "Cube" Match 3 games, especially on the last chapter, and I didn't care for the HOP's being repeated a second time in the same location. Other than that, it has a good story, colorful graphics and imaginative creatures that make it a great fantasy adventure.
There are 20 Eggs left to collect in the CE Bonus Chapter, which is a sequel trying to capture a stray creature. I picture myself running behind creatures with a glass cube saying "get in the cube" as I play a Match 3 game with my free hand lol. Here's a recap of my review to help you decide which version, if either, is right for you:
Abe was the last man standing in the Hanson family lineage. His brothers Eliot and Rick both passed away under mysterious circumstances, and now Abe has joined his brothers, resting in peace for eternity. Julia inherited the Hanson Family Lighthouse from Uncle Abe, a decision she thought was rather curious, but nonetheless, she knew her Uncle was quite fond of the lighthouse. Sometimes the gift itself isn't what's important, and Julia soon learns that her inheritance was actually a lifelong journey, a lifetime commitment, a responsibility that had nothing to do with the lighthouse itself!
Good news and bad news! This game has a Gadget AND a Helper! That's the bad news, the good news is that Ash the Corgi is adorable and not annoying. (he also isn't used that much) The Magic Cube Gadget isn't as horrible as I had anticipated it to be. The Magic Cube actually has two different features associated with it. The main feature of the cube is to capture magical Creatures that have unique powers allowing them to control elements such as Lightning, Fire, and Ice. To capture the creatures, you'll have to challenge them to a Match 3 game and of course, beat them. (this was one of my criteria factors for deducting a star, not the helper, not the cube, not even the repetitive Match 3 game, but because challenging a griffin or ice wolf to a match 3 game was kind of lame) Supposedly, the Cube is a Sanctuary for these animals, if that's true, why would I need to beat them at a Match 3 game to coax them back into the Cube? They are intelligent enough to play a Match 3 challenge, but not smart enough to return to a safe sanctuary? Once captured, you will acquire their magical ability, such as flying, but you only get one shot to use that ability.
The Hidden Object Scenes are basically all the same, Interactive List Finds, but in all fairness, they did throw in a Keywords in Sentence finds here and there which helps to progress the storyline. The lack of creativity within the HO Scenes was the other deciding factor for deducting a star from my rating. There's no alternative puzzle offered, which surprises me given the fact tact that there's a repetitive Match 3 game during the game whenever the Cube is used to capture a creature (who knew these creatures were capable of a Match 3 challenge!) Most of the scenes are repeated, a feature I really don't like because it's just plain ole boring a second time around.
The Mini-Games I will admit are rather simplistic and easily solved. That isn't necessarily a bad thing if puzzles are enjoyable and relaxing that's just as beneficial as a complicated, mind-boggling puzzle, you don't always need to be challenged, and this is a fantasy-themed game, so relaxing is okay too. Below are brief descriptions of some of the games you'll encounter during the demo:
1-Drag the dog token along the tracks to every circle point.
2-Swap papers until they form the family motto.
3-Swap figurine accessories to match the motif clues shown.
4-Swap and rotate tokens to restore the image.
5-Make the number of connections between stars with limited moves.
6-Flip records to find all matching pairs.
7-Drag a line through at least 3 specific matching gems shown.
8-Navigate through the maze using items you find to overcome obstacles.
9-Flip clouds to find matching pairs of tracks.
10-Flip clouds to find matching pairs, clouds shuffle after each turn.
The Collector's Edition version has 6 Wallpapers, 15 Concept Art pictures, 5 Screensavers, 5 Music Soundtracks, 19 re-playable Mini-Games, 11 re-playable Hidden Object Scenes, 27 re-playable Movie Cutscenes, 15 Achievements to earn, 64 Collectible Opaque Eggs (allows you to hatch 5 eggs with collection totals of 22, 30, 38, 44 and 64) 5 Main Chapters +Bonus Chapter and a built-in Strategy Guide, enjoy!
