Reflections of Life returns with Slipping Hope and game number seven in the series. When I first played the demo I didn’t like the game but I determined to plod on through and something happened along the way when I realized that I actually loved the game. The Reflections of Life games were at one time among my favorite games but somewhere along the line they “slipped” off the rails. However this game might actually breathe new life into the series. The first couple of games in the series were excellent and then they became terrible sometime around game four but perhaps when our Sleeper awoke with this game so did my interest.
My one peeve with this game is I feel that there are way too many puzzles in a game that is more of a puzzle game than a HO game and I would like to see some balance returned to the formula. In talking with a lot of my gaming friends the one complaint they have and the reason they no longer buy HOPA games is because they are far too puzzle oriented. There are many who only speak with their pocket book who hate puzzles and when the games started becoming so puzzle intense I suspect it definitely hurt sales of the genre.
Yes, the game is rather puzzle intense as far as this reviewer is concerned because I play HO games for the “hidden object” scenes and would like to see far fewer puzzles in the game. However, that being said as I gave the game another look there are some puzzles I really enjoyed. Since 2008 when the HOPA Collectible Editions were first released, this gamer has purchased all of them until this year because my love of the CE HOPA games dwindled as the games became more puzzle-intense.
In spite of my dislike for games saturated with puzzles Reflections of Life Slipping hope is a surprisingly good game. The developer has gone back to the format of the series and has included a few HOS that are consistent with what made the first games in the series so good. As I played through the game and looked at some of the early rave reviews I saw what I missed earlier. The developer has created an absolutely beautiful game with some great gameplay as I became involved in a storyline of love and sacrifice.
Even though I initially didn’t care for the game, I hope you will give this game a chance and maybe you too will find that this is an excellent game. I became so swept away with the storyline and the gameplay that for me the game became an addition to my collection and it is one that I will play again in the future. As always, please try the demo because Reflections of Life Slipping Hope may be a game you will love. Happy gaming! Show less

If you like Fantasy-themed games, Slipping Hope will not disappoint! I preferred the CE version because I'm a fan of Morphing Objects, Collectibles and of course the added benefit of a Bonus Chapter, which doesn't always have interesting storylines, but in this case, the BC is decent. The BC has a whopping 12 remaining Mini-Games and 6 Hidden Object Scenes, and it also continues to offer the Morphs and Collectibles (I wish they were all this way!) There are 14 adorable Hidden Spy Bats, 14 Zoom Zone Collectible Gold, Ruby and Emerald Coins (to complete your Magical Creatures menagerie) and a couple of Morphing Owls remaining in the BC. One feature included that I really appreciated was the ability to return to a scene to pick up any missed Spy Bat or coin once the Chapter was completed because many of the scenes had more than one Spy Bat. The Zoom Zone Coins were a little harder to miss though because the window doesn't close until you click on the available coin. Not all CE's are worth the extra money, but in this case, I think it's definitely worthy.
There are five Worlds in this Universe and each of those Worlds has a Sleeping Guardian to defend our worlds against evil Malum. The Sleepers are the last defense between Peace and Chaos, and they must remain asleep at all cost if one awakens, the others will arise as well. The Sleepers protect our worlds from evil, and the Order of Guardians protect the Sleepers. Grace is one of those protectors, a Guardian sworn to protect the Sleepers, just as her father before her. Unfortunately, one of the Guardians has broken the sacred vow and has awoken a Sleeper, a Sleeper who happens to be his own sister! The balance between peace and chaos has been disturbed, and as other Sleepers begin to awaken, Grace must find a way to restore the fine line of balance before the evil of Malum spreads out of control.
GrandMa has clearly worked hard on this fantasy-themed edition of Reflections of Life! I will admit that I haven't been crazy about the last few games by GrandMa Studio's but I have to give credit when credit is warranted, and Slipping Hope has revived my faith in GrandMa once again. They clearly poured their hearts and souls into this game, the quality is superb, the quantity is money-worthy, the entertainment value is off the charts and it's by far the best Reflections Of Life game in the series. I'll go one step further and say that it's one of the best fantasy-themed games I've played in quite some time!
There is a Gadget/Helper, a Mechanical Owl used to retrieve and interact with objects out of our reach. He isn't used that often and as far as Helpers go, this one actually fits in nicely because it is a fantasy game. My only complaint is that he's a tad bit noisy during his "downtime" as he who-hoots a bit too much, and he does get rather annoying when he continues to flap his wings if the task you're using him for is a lengthy puzzle. I think if they tweaked the owl to stop flapping his wings once he arrives at the destination, he wouldn't be an issue.
I highly recommend the CE version over this SE version because of the Hidden Spy Bats, I absolutely LOVED them! Only the tips of their tiny ears and tail poke out from their hiding places, but once you click on them they take flight to get out of Dodge quickly. They definitely add the "awe" factor because they are adorable (and should be in a fantasy-themed game!) I wish they were a little bit smaller so they would be harder to spot. The CE version also features Hidden Coins of Gold, Emerald, and Ruby, within most of the Zoom Zones. The Coins are used to purchase Magical Creatures AND you get the chance to return to the scenes after completing the Main Game and Bonus Chapter, to pick up any missed coins or bats! Personally, I find this feature very appealing and for going the extra mile, I give this opportunity an A+ and a thumbs up!!! The CE version also has a Bonus Hidden Puzzle which is one of the most creative puzzles I've ever seen, again, GrandMa has gone the extra mile and they raised the HOPA bar for those to come :)
The Hidden Object Scenes are well designed and their locations were interesting. In the Collector's Edition version, each main HOP (not zoom zone HOP's) have a Morphing Owl to spot, or is it a spotted owl to morph? Most of them are Interactive Silhouetted Shape finds or Multiple Silhouetted Shape finds such as finding 12 stone fragments. I really enjoyed the repetitive Progressive Interactive Silhouetted Shape HOP's that require Finding & Replacing the Objects within 3 different scenes by clicking on 3 different emblems to change locations (once you found the emblems) There are also several Zoom Zone HOP's where you are tasked with finding groups of 3 silhouetted shapes such as 3 eyes, 3 bones etc. Many of the HOS's include a small puzzle to solve such as placing stone fragments into highlighted sections. You can opt to play an Alternate Match 3 Games instead of the Hidden Object Scenes.
The Mini-Games range from super quick and easy to somewhat complex, but I was able to solve all of them without having to skip them, nor did I want to because I enjoyed this game immensely. Below are brief descriptions of some of the puzzles available in the demo and main game:
1-Align 4 image sections by adjusting rotation, size, and width.
2-Use the Magic Lens to locate 3 images shown on each page x3.
3-Strum the Harp cords in the order shown on the clue.
4-Swap hexagonal puzzle pieces to restore the image.
5-Shoot identical color/position Bats
6-Rotate sections to place all 4 stones into center matching slots.
7-Select 3 partial symbols to create each symbol shown.
8-Navigate the boat to each lighthouse to clear the fog while avoiding obstacles.
9-Stretch out all of the snakes, clicking one may affect others.
10-Draw a continuous line between all gems.
11-Rotate Hexagonal pieces to restore the picture.
12-Choose the correct flowers that match the riddle descriptions.
13-Swap feathers from longest to shortest.
14-Move the central symbol & attach other symbols to reproduce the silhouette (loved this one)
The Collector's Edition version has 14 Wallpapers, 10 Concept Art pictures, 8 Music Soundtracks, re-playable Movie Cutscene Videos, 14 re-playable Mini-Games (out of a whopping 35) 16 re-playable Hidden Object Scenes (16/19) 19 Morphing Owls within the HOP's, 14 Achievements to Earn, 48 Hidden Coins (16 Gold, 16 Emerald, 16 Ruby) 10 Magical Creatures (to purchase with the coins) 36 Hidden Spy Bats (only the tips of their ears & tail are visible) 5 Main Chapters (Finding The Truth) +Bonus Chapter (Testing And Trials) Hidden Puzzle Chapter (Interactive Progressive super-puzzle) a built-in Strategy Guide and a Bonus Chapter, sleep well, enjoy!

This a quest game, good vs evil, but it's not overstated, and I think that's what makes it such a good game. For one thing, the pace of the game is excellent. At times, the inventory fills up but not repetitively or unnecessarily. As you need objects/tools, you find them. Well done, Grandma Games!

For me, there was just the right mix of puzzles and hidden object games integrated into the storyline. That's the main factor I look for in a game. Biscuitsmama does a fine job with the details and specifics of the game so no need for me to repeat.
