Not sure why the low reviews. I have the whole series of Edgar Allan Poe's and I'll admit some were a bummer, but this one was actually a bit challenging in places, and ran smoothly. Transporter map was really good, but the game scenery was a bit dark and hard to see sometimes.

HOG's were challenging, I actually had to use the hint now and then. I never play the puzzles or mini games which is why I set the timers as low as I can, but from what I could tell without playing them they looked to be challenging.
Storyline was OK....pretty much the same plot as a lot of other hidden object games, but that is not what I play the games for. Basically I enjoyed playing it. I never do Collector series because I find them a waste of money for what you get. This game ended well and was a good length. Long enough to get the game done without dragging it out. Show less

Just finished the game a few minutes ago and it was the nostalgia of the sounds, Dupin's "intellectual" talking while he stands around finding things for his assistant to do. ; ) ,
It was just refreshing to visit with an old framiler character and I played it almost straight through.
I'm giving this one a 4 & 1/2 ***** out of 5 on my personal enjoy-ability scale :).
I recommend this game!

I loved this game. It's similar to the others in the Dupin series so I liked it. Lots of hidden object scenes and the game is not difficult. It's a good entertainment.

I found this game most interesting and funny... didn't say fun, but funny. Whoever wrote the script for this game deserves some kind of reward.. a Plaque, Trophy or certificate suitable for framing. I can't remember a time when I laughed out loud at dialog in a game. To me it was hilarious!
Graphics were well done and the sound was really good, especially the voice overs. The music was the same as in the previous games in this series and wasn't intrusive.
I really liked the hidden object games. They were big and the objects were clear and usually easy to find. There were just a couple that were small, but the majority were well to my liking. The mini games were nothing new and I completed many of them. Some were easy, but very time consuming so I would start them and then skip. Using the custom setting I had the hint and skip at the 5 second setting. My patience level just doesn't allow for convoluted mini games. The only problem I had with the game was it constantly required 3 flowers or 4 horses and so on. At one point I had 5 different locks in my inventory missing one or two of the items. That did get kind of boring. Other than that, I enjoyed it.
I've never read Mr. Poe's story so I have no idea if the game follows it or not. I had to read a couple of his stories in high school and that was enough for me. This story caught me from the beginning and held my interest all the way through. I figured it out at the beginning, but I did enjoy Dupin figuring it out. Others went into the story line for you, so I'll just say I liked it.
Give the demo a shot and see if you like it. The demo is long enough you will get a feel for the game. Just open your minds and sit back and get ready for a good laugh. We can't take ourselves to seriously in this game and the laughs made the purchase worthwhile. Show less

Dark Tales EAP Ligeia is simply put another of those games in a never-ending series whose characters are culled from the author’s short stories. I didn’t expect much and that’s exactly what I received. At one time the Dark Tales were excellent games and is now the general rule, most CE games are short with providing the gamer not much to look forward to when playing. Recently, when playing the Dark Tales games I am left with a feeling of “been there, done that”.
The good in the game comes from the beautiful graphics but the bad is Dupin constantly repeating the stupid dialog telling me what I must do to proceed. Gone are the days when a developer realized that gamers are smart and if we see a key stuck in a lock, we can figure out what we need to do to fix the problem without Dupin repeating the obvious next move. As much as I love to play my games with the sound, I was ready to turn it off in Ligeia since I found the voiceovers to be very annoying.
Other good things in the game are the HO scenes. I enjoy playing scenes where I can actually see the items that I need to find. Although the items are not always obvious, they are at least visible and not minute unrecognizable blobs on the screen. The other thing I did enjoy are the puzzles although the developer does tend to use the same puzzles in all of its games. Some of the puzzles are quite easy while others take some time to solve. One of my favorite puzzles in the game is the one with the rotating disks that will give a complete picture when all of the pieces are moved to the correct places.
There have been better games in the Dark Tales series but Ligeia is at least a decent game. I felt that the game could have been better and a bit longer. I consider myself a slow player because I have to look at all the details in each scene and I was surprised that I finished the game in six hours. If you love playing a game that has beautiful graphics, fun HOS, and interesting puzzles then Dark Tales EAP Ligeia is a game that you will most likely enjoy. As always, I recommend that you try the demo because you might find that Ligeia is a perfect game for you. Happy gaming! Show less

Completed Game approximately 4 Hours
(including the CE Bonus Chapter & all mini-games)
Detective Dupin has received another anonymous letter of impending doom which states that Lord Royce Morrissey has a date with death at the stroke of midnight. As Dupin's' most trusted assistant (after all you have helped to solve 15 previous Dark Tales cases) you know that Time and T̶i̶d̶e̶ Death wait for no man, and surely, the clock has been ticking for several days whilst awaiting the arrival of the early 1900's snail-mail postal service. As luck would have it, you arrive 2 seconds before the clock strikes midnight, just in the nick of time to thwart the Ghost of Morrissey's late wife Ligeia who really knows how to pack a punch. Clearly, she's been working out while Royce was working on Mrs. Royce Morrissey the 2nd.
That pretty much sums it up, if the storyline is still unclear, go back to Dark Tales games number 1-15 which all have the same plots, just different names to protect the innocent of course. There are Morphing Objects in every scene of the CE version, 26 scenes that look exactly like the scenes in every previous Dark Tales game. There are several new characters introduced in "Ligeia" as well, which coincidentally, look hauntingly familiar...because they ARE exactly like the characters in games 1-15. If you are tired of the same ole, same ole, save your hard-earned money and precious time by just replaying any of the previous 1-15 Dark Tales games for the same gratification experience.
There are 12 Hidden Object Scenes +5 in the CE Bonus Chapter, not including the smaller Zoom-Zone HO's that appear each time you blink. The HO scenes aren't located within interesting locations, and they lack even the slightest hint of color, not to mention the fact that most of the scenes are repeated because they can't bother to create a new HO scene location. These devs are famous for using the same HOP's and Mini-Games over and over, recycling them, moving them from one series to the next, but they never bite the bullet and actually create new ones! Most of the scenes are Interactive List Finds, but there are also Matching Pairs, Related Item Pairs, and Silhouetted Shape Finds.
There are 18 Mini-Games +11 in the CE Bonus Chapter. Some of the games are available in an Easy or Hard difficulty mode. Here are a few examples of games that I enjoyed:
❁ Adjust 4 slider tabs so their light beams will intersect all symbols on the tablet that match the symbol in the center x3~დდდ
❁ Swap lock tumbler sections that will intertwine with its counterpart~დდ
❁ Several labyrinths/maze puzzles such as avoiding being caught by police searchlights, or use directional arrows to navigate hedges~დ
The Collector's Edition Bonus Chapter is an average-length Chapter narrated by Robert Fowles as he takes us back to the origins of his employment as a housekeeper for the Phoenix family. There are 11 Mini-Games and 5 Hidden Object Scenes offered in this rather dull Bonus Chapter. You will finish Collecting the final 3 Medicine Bottles, and 8 Morphing Objects as well.
The Collector's Edition version has 9 Wallpapers, 6 Concept Art Pictures, 5 Screensavers, 4 Music Soundtracks, 17 Movie Cutscenes, 12 Achievements, 15 Replayable Hidden Object Scenes, 11 Replayable Mini-Games, 4 Main Chapters, +Bonus Chapter, and a Built-in Strategy Guide.

That's the last EAP title I buy. One of the shortest games I have ever played and there have been a few. The plot is non existent, the hidden object puzzles are ridiculously easy and the game comes to an end just as you are getting warmed up. I like a challenge but this is about as challenging as watching grass grow!

So I own the first five Poe Dark Tales games and have enjoyed each and every one of them. But for some reason, Amax decided to change their gaming codes so the rest of their Dark Tales games will not play on my desktop. I am so thankful I just didn't go ahead and buy this one without trying to run the demo first.
I don't recommend this game.
