REVIEW FROM COMPLETED GAME, BONUS AND EXTRAS
This exquisite game carries straight on from 'Darkness of Flame - The Dark Side'. Once again you play Alice who is off on another "running out of time" adventure. There is:
* Voiceovers (with dialogue);
* Casual, Advance, Hard and Custom modes;
* Interactive map;
* Journal;
* 1 morphing object in each scene;
* Find 8 butterflies, 9 phoenix symbols, 7 apples and 8 bullfinches in the main game.
The graphics are awesome. Each scene is gorgeous and so well defined. Even scenery from far away is clear to see. I loved the way all the characters moved and ran just like we do which made it so more realistic - it makes you feel like you are part of the game.
Sound is great and the music will be familiar to you if you have played the previous games ('Darkness of Flames - The Dark Side' and 'Darkness of Flames - Missing Memories').
The hidden object games are mainly highly interactive straightforward, silhouette and putting items back. These are fun to do and mostly consist of finding one item to use to find another, etc.
There are a huge variety of mini-games ranging from medium to hard. All are accomplishable but you will need to take your time with them, and concentration is a key factor.
Keep a pen and paper with you to write clues down, as bits of paper as clues are not always there. In some mini-games you will be needing to get things in the right order or press buttons in a certain sequence, so its easier to write them down as you go.
There is a collectible and a morphing object to find in each scene. Now, you can turn off the "hand" in Custom Mode if you want to find them yourself to give you that extra challenge. This is the only developer who does this, so thank you. So, you can make it as hard or as easy as you like to find them.
The full journal tells you about your story as you travel through the game, so well worth reading.

So, do you get the CE or SE? In the CE, there are 22 Achievements, 12 replayable mini-games and 12 tin cans to find in the bonus. At the end of the game and extras, you have an extra 20 mini-games to play.
All up the game and bonus took me well into double digits playing. Its a truly wonderful game and I took my time playing all the HOPs and mini-games. If you love a challenge, then this is a perfect game to play.
Overall, I can't praise this game enough. If only I could give 10 stars. Thank you devs for this winner and I cannot wait for the next episode.
Happy playing fishies - go and get this game. I recommend that you get the CE. Show less

Even though the puzzles are sometimes so hard that even the walkthrough didn't help, I loved the HOS and the puzzles because that is why I play these games...trying to keep the old brain sharp. I seldom write reviews, but didn't want a newcomer to see low stars and not try out this fantastic game. It literally made me go download the last 3 in the series to play again. Show less

I like this game a lot. I like that the story is based on a former game (which i played and thus have an idea of what it is about), i like the minigames, which are not the usual stuff, i like - and this really is rarely the case - the music a lot! I like the graphics, which also are unusual and i find the game very entertaining. To me it has all that one wants!

I will be buying every FiveBN game that Big Fish offers, without playing the demo. I always know I'll get a quality game and definitely get my money's worth. I'm not finished with this one yet (it's a long game!) but I had to stop to write a review. Fun HOP's and mini-games, some that take a while to solve, which I really like. Just a great game! Thanks, FiveBN!

I have played the game through to the end and have enjoyed others in this series. Sure, it's not really darkness as some have objected to, but the point is not to have a dark and dreary game. The story is a good one. If the only reason you play a GAME is to have a George Lucas style story, then you probably won't like much from BFG. I typically look forward to the puzzles so the fact that I wrote that the story was good should say something. There are interesting HOP's (shadow, find the object, use the object, etc) and the puzzles are diverse with some very basic ones and some that will challenge you for more than a few minutes. There is a great map. There are no silly bunnies or dogs that you need to have help you out. There are very few instances where you need to go too terribly far from your current location to use an item or collect one. The areas are not so convoluted that the map is the only way to move around. It makes sense. The first part, which would probably be in the demo, is not that far off from what the rest of the game is going to be like so give the demo a shot. Happy gaming. Show less

My Dearest #1 Favorite Developer
Please forgive me for my 3-Star rating of Darkness And Flame. I have put a great deal of thought into what it was about Evil In Reflection that so disappointed me and the conclusion is that apparently I am being manipulated by the evil Dark Forces of the Darkness. That's surely the reason for the absence of the Dark Forces in this latest endeavor, because the force is strong in this fan, so they had to send all available recruits to extinguish my Flame. I tried to fight off the Darkness, but it was impossible to "go towards the light" when Alice bound the wings of her Flaming Phoenix 99% of the game. The evil Dark Forces have become quite strong over their 1.5-year hiatus and they probably took advantage of the fact that I love zombie-themed movies and games. By now it should be abundantly clear that the only way to banish my Star Removing, Dark evil entity, is to quickly release the next installment of Darkness And Flame, one that actually incorporates Darkness AND Flames...go ahead, I'll wait....

There are only 11 Hidden Object Scenes +3 in the CE Bonus Chapter. Most of them include at least one puzzle to solve, some have 2-3! Most of the scenes are Interactive-Progressive Listed Items or Silhouetted Shapes requiring you to interact with the scene or solve puzzles to find an item that is used somewhere else in the scene. These are very lengthy scenes and not for the faint of heart. There are a few scenes that are still highly interactive but only require finding Multiple coins, birds or artifacts, and some that required taking items from the inventory and placing them logically on the scene. My favorite HOP required replacing objects on 4 different scenes using arrows to switch scenes. I can't complain about the HOP's by this developer, they are the only developer to succeed in making HOP's both interesting and challenging.
There are a whopping 46 Mini-Games +4 in the CE Bonus Chapter, most of the HOP's have 1-3 puzzles to solve. They range from simplistic games that can be solved in 30 seconds to mind-melting ridiculous games you have to restart several times to solve. There are also several codes you have to memorize for some games but they are usually close to one another. Here are a few of my favorite games:
✇-Move insect tiles to their matching slots using other tiles as bumpers & gears to change their direction.
✇-Move blue chips to their slots using red chips as bumpers, moving chips on the left side will also move chips on the right side.
✇-Navigate paths through the mountain by finding and using objects to overcome obstacles, if you get hit by a rockslide you must start over from the beginning.
✇-Select buttons to move tokens along various paths so that the blue sides of triangular buttons align with the board.
✇-Connect a continuous line, without backtracking, to every point that recreates the images shown x 5
✇-Place quantity-limited crystals of varying coverage to fully illuminate the path.
✇-Choose one partial image on the right & left that when combined will match the image on the stone in the middle of each step x7
✇-Move rows so the heads will drop to their matching bodies.
The CE Bonus Chapter takes place shortly after the timeframe of the main game. Albert the scientist thinks he knows how to revive stone statues. There are only 4 Mini-Games and 3 Hidden Object Scenes in this lengthy bonus chapter. There are no Morphing Objects but there is a new collectible of 12 Tin Cans available. It doesn't have a very interesting story but at least the scenes are more colorful.
This Collector's Edition has 11 Wallpapers, 10 Concept Art Pictures, 18 Movie Video Cutscenes, 8 Music Soundtracks, 12 Replayable Mini-Games, 5 Replayable Bonus Puzzles Puzzles (square tile jigsaws awarded for collectible completion) 20 Bonus Levels of Icon Sliding Tile Mini-Game (for completing Morphing Object collection) 22 Achievements, 32 Morphing Objects, 44 Collectibles (8 Bullfinches, 8 Butterflies, 9 Phoenix Symbols, 7 Apples, 12 Tin Cans) 5 Main Chapters +Bonus Chapter and a Built-In Strategy Guide.

This game has some amazing graphics and scenery - from brightly coloured story book style images, to what looks like real pictures, to smoothly moving characters. The storyline is okay. Although there are lots of puzzles, there are only a few that make you dig deep. The HOS are bearable, but so many aren’t needed in a game that has a lot other similar things to do. There is no HOS choice for Match 3, which would have been nice. The many character presentations and conversations distracted from feeling immersed as a first person player. The developers have taken much care and consideration in what they have presented, so it’s a bit difficult to understand some things - such as why leave the grain barrel open to potential rain, or why leave the water running at the pump, why break so many things to get what you need, or why do the underdressed young female characters head up the snowy mountain unprepared for the weather, especially when the dreadlocked male they encounter prior to this is wearing layers of warm looking clothes? I give the game a 3 simply because it bogged down due to too many small steps and too many small things to do. I don’t consider it a challenge or fun to figure out why I have a bunch of obscure items in my inventory. I eventually switched from the hardest setting to casual and used the map and hints liberally to plow through the minutiae. I recommend this game because some people will love it, but I prefer games that take a while to finish because they have good brain exercising puzzles, like The Cabinets of Doctor Arcana. Unfortunately, these types of games are few and far between. Show less
