Not Your Usual Christmas Game!

This lovely Christmas adventure takes place in a Bavarian someplace. As in many Christmas stories (Babes in Toyland comes to mind), you enter a toy populated land to find your best friend Fritz. He is your young toy-making partner and both of you had been under the tutelage of the Master Toymaker (who slightly resembles Santa). What struck me first and foremost (and with much appreciation) are the beautifully executed graphics. I was blown away- they truly appear to be hand drawn, that's how good they are. Christmas games, as a rule, have a rather "loud" palette. The games shout "CHRISTMAS!" in each and every scene. Not this game. The palette is wonderfully soft and pastel, like a new snowfall. The Christmas décor is gentle and lovely. The game does not rely on Christmas music, instead opting for something different: symphonic music which sets the mood for that particular scene. The characters are very detailed and move with very good fluidity. There are your usual fun-to-find goodies, four to a scene- two collectibles, two morphs. You have to look for them but its not frustrating. Speaking of frustrating- the HOPs. No worries here, even without the Match-3 option. The HOPs are fun and engaging with different variations that make the HOPs much more enjoyable than your usual junkpile. And, I never met a puzzle I didn't like and I enjoy these very much. Also, there is a little story telling mouse that lives in a little castle that will be added to your control bar, alongside the map. He is part of the game as he trades parts of the story for treats- that's a new one! Also, the name of the fantasy area you will be exploring is Spielland, which is German for "Play Land". Add this wonderful tale to your Christmas collection for your whole family to enjoy. You won't be disappointed. Merry Christmas! Show less

It has been ages since you have visited your Godfather, Drosselmeyer, and best friend Fritz and you are looking forward to spending the holidays with them. Maria and Fritz used to spend hours pretending they would open the gates of a Castle built by their godfather, which would allow them to enter the magical land of Speilland where toys ruled the kingdom...but that was just make-believe, right?

Collectibles/Morphing Objects:
This developer has my second favorite collectibles and morphs and they really add the perfect touch to this Christmas-themed game! There are 54 Morphing Objects which allow you to unlock Mechinacal Toys (at 4-10-22-38-54) and 54 Snowglobes (which they refer to as Snow Balls lol) which allows you to unlock the Snowglobes as you discover them (at 3-7-13-20-30-42-54) You will also unlock a Maze Puzzle after completing the Collectibles.

Gadget/Helper:
Mouse Claus to give you bits and pieces of the background story when you feed him, used 5 times.

Hidden Object Scenes:
There are 18 Hidden Object Scenes +7 in the CE Bonus Chapter. There is a repetitive HO where you have to feed a Santa Mouse in exchange for a background story where you replace items into the scene. This feature is used 5 times during the Main Chapters and is basically the same feature this developer uses in all of their games, they have just given it a Christmas-theme. There are also Interactive List Finds, Keywords in Sentence Finds, Multiples of the Same or Similar Object, and Silhouetted Shape Finds, and several of the HO scenes have small puzzles to solve as well.

Mini-Games:
There are 29 Mini-Games +14 in the CE Bonus Chapter. There isn't really anything new presented here, they are mostly the same games that this developer offers with Christmas graphics added, but they are all doable and light-hearted. Here are some of my personal favorites:

1-Place chess pieces so that they don't share the same horizontal, vertical, or diagonal lines.
2-Navigate a map while avoiding tin soldiers.
3-Untangle the ropes version.
4-Triangular Jigsaw Puzzle

Bonus Chapter: (CE version only)
Maria has been invited to a Christmas party by the Mouse King when Pinniccho's quest to become human begins to create havoc and of course, it's up to you to save the day! There are 14 Mini-Games and 7 Hidden Object Scenes and you will continue searching for the final 16 Morphing Objects and 16 Snowglobes which will unlock the final Mechanical Toys and Snowglobes.

After months of copycat games, repetitive tasks, and tired stories, we have reached an oasis that boasts good game-play and two collectible snow globes and two morphing objects in each scene among its CE bling.

This story isn't dripping in sweetness like the previous 2 holiday releases and I rather like that. I've been playing for several hours and see no chance of becoming bored.

The HOPs and puzzles are plentiful. This is a nice CE package that offers lots of entertainment and replay value. Even though I am not a puzzle lover, I have been enjoying the creative style in these and haven't felt the urge to skip any. However, I wish there weren't so many. It would be nice to have more HOPs than mini-games for a change. The HOPs were really fun, the usual styles, and all can be replayed.

So far, the game is moving along at a good clip with so many activities and tasks to keep the pace up. It is visually very interesting and beautiful. Great for those who love to take their time checking everything out with all its lovely detail. I don't see where this actually fits into the Nutcracker category, it is just very loosely based on the characters from that series. The graphics are excellent, the scenes are full of things to see and do, the colors are not in-your-face bright, each location is beautiful.

I think the magic of toys coming to life will forever appeal to the child in us. Sugarplum fairies, talking animals, toy soldiers, nutcrackers and sparkling Christmas trees have always been a big part of my imagination. I'm glad that BFG brings us some of these games to escape into. I feel that the developers did a really fine job with this one. It is now a part of my holiday collection and will be enjoyed not just at Christmas time.

A great family game, it can be played by all skill levels, and it has certainly brought me some early Holiday Cheer. I heartily recommend this delightful bit of enchantment. Show less

It has 6 Chapters + Bonus. Collect 54 glass balls and 54 morphs. The key helped me see the long waiting morphs. Some hops are used more than once. I loved all of the hops and most of the puzzles.

Replay on 25 hops, 14 mini-games, 25 movies and 6 music. Has 5 screensavers, 7 wallpapers and 17 concept art. If you scroll over the concept art it will give you the before and after. Achievements.

For some reason I didn't get the Royal Witness achievement which is-see the Mouse King for the first time which is part of the story.

When I finished the collectibles and press the number it gave me a mouse running puzzle. For no reason I was missing a morph and I know I got it. I pressed the number and it took me to a scene to find the morph then I press the number and it took me to the same mouse running puzzle.

This game is more relaxed so it was my favorite out the the three Christmas HopA games this year. Show less

It was relaxing and peaceful, something we all could use more of. Everything about it was just fun. I was able to complete almost all of the puzzles (yay me lol) and I loved the HOS. I'm guessing this was a Christmas game, so reviewers who are complaining it's too easy need to realize that the seasonal games are always easy and laid back. There are plenty of mind bending games out there if that is what you're seeking. I highly recommend this game. Show less

This is by far my favorite Holiday game so far this year. I am a total sucker for the Nutcracker story anyway and the developer worked the story into the game beautifully. The puzzles and HOPA weren't that hard but were full of Christmas magic and the silver lining was that they were fun to play with my daughter. The graphics were gorgeous and you can never go wrong with the traditional Nutcracker ...Show more

I am also a huge Friends 4 Friends fan and this game had the kind of feeling and look to it like the developers Living Legends ( One of my favorite series) games do. I really do hope they continue you to release a Christmas themed game every year. I highly recommend this game for fun with the whole family. Show less
