Review based on 60 mins of the demo:
The storyline has been done before (missing teens/people, smog-infested ghosts). The main thing that I didn't like about this game is that you had to go to a lot of different places to find what you needed to find, in order to complete a task. All in all, not a bad game but I won't be buying it.
I recommend this game!

I only tried the trial, and was pleasantly surprised with the graphics and sound. I only wish that I could have had the full hour free trial. It's kind of hard to base a review on limited game play

There's a review already up on here from "Pennmom36" that I am in agreement with on a few things that they said. Elephant games from before were Awesome! There's a review already up on here from "Pennmom36" that I am in agreement with on a few things that they said. Elephant games from before were Awesome! Graphics were the best quality and when you started playing the games, you knew without a doubt what-so-ever, that you were playing an Elephant game. But for some reason lately, they just seem, I don't know, lacking, I guess. They don't have that beautiful graphic quality they used to always have. The challenges in the games had more of an entertaining factor where you weren't so quick to just "skip" it to get it over with, either. As for Elf, I really don't care one way or the other if he's in this series any longer. The only thing I really liked about having Elf was that he could do the digging. This way I wouldn't need to mindlessly have to search for a spoon or whatever to dig in a mountain of dirt for some mundane part that you would never find in a mountain of dirt to begin with. But, like I said, not that big of deal.
I gave this game 3 stars all around because it isn't a "Poor" game, but it isn't great either. One of the reasons is that there aren't any morphing items or collections in this game, at all. WTW? Part of the appeal of these games is the little extras we do along the way of searching and roaming. Without these little fun extras, it's like we are paying the same for a shorter, more mundane game.
Okay, here is a short list of things you may want to know about in this game:
*As you can see by the many reviews, this game has "ok" graphics. It actually looks a little muted with a fog like look.
*The story line actually isn't too bad. If you play the demo, you don't really get to see much of what is going on, either.
*You don't have any "Elf" or any helper for that matter.
*There are 3 teenagers/young adult investigators that you switch between, becoming and playing as each one for a short time, back and forth. Much like the same as the Dark Romance games by Domini developers and the Strange Investigators by Elephant developers. If you like that then it won't bother you. If you Don't like it, then it may nag you. I, personally, find it annoying to have to switch back and forth on what character I am playing.
*There is a map. But I am not sure about the Strategy Guide because I only played the demo part. However, I did see a little writing pen in the corner by the "hint/skip" button on the web page where the game is advertised, so that is usually the same icon for the Strategy guide.
*Yep, you read it, there is a Hint/Skip button. (Ya know, where the little "possible" strategy guide is located next too? lol)
*You do have the 4 choices of play - Casual, Advanced, hardcore and Custom, to choose from.
*There are NO Morphing Objects or ANY collectibles in this game.
*I found the mini games to be a little on the bland side.
Overall, it really is just an Okay game. If you don't have anything else to play, then I'd say give it a whirl. If you do have something else, I'd pass this one for a rainy day. Show less

I wanted to like this game because I enjoyed other Mystery Tracker games. But the story was slow, and the scenes kept freezing. Not sure I like playing 3 parts; couldn't see the need for constant switching. I'd prefer playing one role and interacting with the other 2. Puzzles were good; just wish the game would quit freezing. Maybe it's just my computer? My other games don't freeze, tho.
I don't recommend this game.

The artwork seems to be slipping from the original stories. I didn't have any problems with freezing or a jumpy cursor. Addressing the problem with the scrapbook in the very beginning of the game, you just have to notice the pictures in the tab on the upper right of the book: they show items and the numbers of them you need to find to progress. Simple, really. All in all, I prefer adult protagonists, and I'm not sure if two of the girls are a couple, but the story hints at that. The demo lasted only 25 minutes for me, and I am not a fast player. This game is probably better for beginners. Show less

This is probably the shortest game I have ever played. Graphics were great but story is tired - how many lost student story lines are there? The speech did not always match the text on the page and the games were simplistic.

There is something wrong with this game. I don't know if it is a performance issue are a graphics issue but there is something wrong in the coding. This game really needs to be tested by the developer. Pointer jumps all over. Graphics skips frames. Slow response.

That's it. No Elf. I love all the games with him and his little outfits. I wondered at the fact the previous game allowed you to NOT use Elf. I thought for sure it was a joke, that you'd be able to select him when you needed to dig. I reset the game. Now this one doesn't have him at all. Not. Happy. I will recommend the game but BRING ELF BACK.

This should have been made and released as a different game. It felt nothing like a Mystery Trackers game. No Elf - love him or hate him, it was weird not to have him. This should have been made and released as a different game. It felt nothing like a Mystery Trackers game. No Elf - love him or hate him, it was weird not to have him. You play as three different young people. Maybe this is meant to attract young players. I prefer the regular detective. I don't like switching between characters at all. Other games have it and I find it confusing and unnecessary. Part of what makes a mystery game creepy is being alone. The character's voices are just awful. One of them speaks with a strange and very annoying inflection. As others have stated, the mini games are simply not fun. And a couple have such confusing instructions I couldn't figure them out. I skipped a lot of the mini games. HO scenes were easy - too easy. The story implied one character was corrupt or behind the mystery, then was never heard from again. Finally I got a little over halfway through and the game stopped responding. It would not go beyond the scene. Sound was still working, hint made a noise but went nowhere. I checked a video walkthrough and it definitely wasn't something I was doing wrong. I had noticed other hiccups during the game. Read fast, because a page or note would be found and vanish quickly, and there was no way to read it again. If you have been a Mystery Trackers fan from the start and have all of them like I do, you probably won't like this game. Even as a stand alone game, I don't like it. Skip it and maybe the next one will be better. I won't buy another MT game if it's made the same way with the young, annoying characters and no Elf. Maybe it's time for them to retire this series. Okay, I get that Elf isn't a part of this new "young blood" Mystery Trackers team, but Elf has been around for 95% of these games and I love him, he's family. I liked the newer modern look of the inventory bar but everything else was just plain boring, I just can't get into these new characters, don't abandon everything that made Mystery Trackers what it is...or should I say was? If you want to change this series, go backward! Go back to your roots and make a game as incredible as The Void, Raincliff, or Black Isle, because these earlier editions were incredible! And while I'm at it, don't forget to add the Morphing Objects that were like they were in the earlier days of your career, back when your fans loved Elephant Games. I've said this before, no one came close to your level of graphics back then, we immediately knew we were playing an Elephant Game from the first scene, the atmosphere was always creepy, always crisp, and ALWAYS fantastic. Now I can't see anything special, can anyone else? Please listen to our reviews, our Voices should NOT be Forgotten!
Helper/Gadget:
There are no helpers, Elf doesn't exist in this game, he's not an option or even mentioned...worse decision of all time!
Morphing Objects/Collectibles: (CE version only)
There are ZERO Morphing Objects, how's that working out for sales? There are 12 Collectibles (because 13 would be excessive, right?) that belong to the detectives...how'd they show up in places they just arrived at? Some of the Zoom Zones have a Jigsaw Puzzle Piece that allows you to complete a single Screensaver. Looks like we just have to accept that less is more nowadays?
Hidden Object Scenes:
There are 14 Hidden Object Scenes +6 in the CE Bonus Chapter. Nothing special here folks, most items can be clicked on correctly without having to look at the list! There are Interactive List Finds, Pattern Swatch Finds, Silhouetted Shape Finds, Keywords in Sentence Finds, and Find & Replace HO's. There are several Zoom Zone HO's as well, lots of Zoom Zone HO's?!!
Mini-Games:
There are 12 Mini-Games +8 in the CE Bonus Chapter. These were either super simple puzzles, or puzzles that took a long time to complete because...well because they were lengthy, certainly not because they were difficult.
Bonus Chapter (Collector's Edition version only)
REDO! The dashing trio returns to Misthill College, didn't we just do this? There are 8 Scene Locations in this average-length chapter which has 8 Mini-Games and 6 Hidden Object Scenes. You will continue your search for the remaining 8 Puzzle Pieces and 2 lousy Collectibles.
Collector's Edition Extra's
5 Wallpapers because 6 is over the top, 1 Jigsaw Puzzle Screensaver, 4 Music Soundtracks, 10 Achievements, 12 Replayable Mini-Games, 14 Replayable Hidden Object Scenes (within the Secret Room) 24 Zoom Zone Jigsaw Puzzle Pieces, an Expedition Room where you search for missed collectibles. Ironic, weren't they lost, to begin with? An Archive Room, 5 Main Chapters +Bonus Chapter, and a Built-In Strategy Guide. Come join us at my new forum! thewoodsforum.boards.net
