I really liked this game.

Why?

- Clear and interesting HO scenes. I find the selection better than the nearest equivalent, the last Road Trip USA game (which offers a gas station as one of the HO scenes). The scenes I played were not dark and did not have funky contrast.

- No story, no obnoxious characters so no need to hit the skip button hundreds of times and no need to cringe from the ...Show more

I really liked this game.

Why?

- Clear and interesting HO scenes. I find the selection better than the nearest equivalent, the last Road Trip USA game (which offers a gas station as one of the HO scenes). The scenes I played were not dark and did not have funky contrast.

- No story, no obnoxious characters so no need to hit the skip button hundreds of times and no need to cringe from the awful dialogue.

- Replayable chapters, replayable levels, many HO scene modes, many difficulty modes. They added morphing objects to the lists!

- Fun mini-games that are reminiscent of the I Love Finding X series.

What I liked a bit less:

- It seems a bit easier than the other recent Boomzap games.

- It is yet another travel game. However, the Mid-West of the US usually does not get as much attention as other places, so that is okay.

- Still takes up a gig on one's computer. Show less

OK, Boomzap, I hear you loud and clear! You are making a very strong statement with The Heartland. The places are amazing, the level of challenge is excellent, and without a doubt the music is wonderful! I purposefully took my time a few times just to listen to the music! All I can say is wow! Keep doing what you're doing.

I love this game. I like looking for the star and keys in the game and I make sure I find them first before finding the other items.I also like the mini games. Like I said I really love this game. Finding America is a good sort of relaxing hidden object game. Why do I say sort of? As you go through the sites, there are five fun facts about the place you are visiting. However, to get to the fun fact, you have to find a key, which means that you have to replay the scene at least five times. However, to get to the fun fact, you have to find a key, which means that you have to replay the scene at least five times. They key isn't always in the same place and it's not always the same type of key, so you have to go hunting around for it, which is why I say you have to play at least five times. What's worse is that the hint and super hint you get does not point you to the key.
Overall, it's a good game if you are willing to bypass the fun facts. Show less

I haven't read any reviews stating that they were getting penalized for misclicking when selecting the Collectible Keys so either everyone is playing in the easy mode, or this is an incompatibility issue of some sort? I haven't read any reviews stating that they were getting penalized for misclicking when selecting the Collectible Keys so either everyone is playing in the easy mode, or this is an incompatibility issue of some sort? This happened on every level, every time I clicked the Key the first time. After getting a red -500 points deducted, I would re-click the same key in the same area (dead center) and the key would be accepted. I love Boomzap and appreciate their fantastic games, but this glitch sucked all the fun out of playing. Technically I could opt for a mode that has no misclick penalties but the game is already a bit too easy.

There are 4 modes of difficulty, Easy-Medium-Hard, and Custom which allows you to set the Hint & Super Hint Recharge from 5-60 seconds, enable/disable misclick penalty, as well as locking mini-game pieces.

Each Hidden Object Scene has a Hidden Key that unlocks a Fun Fact. You can replay levels to get a new fun fact if desired (5 Total per scene) Each scene has a collectible Star that will unlock that scene in the Unlimited Play mode. There are Morphing Objects, and 2 objects that require a task of some sort, such as slicing a pizza. In my opinion, this game needs a Collectibles tab that shows if you have found the Key and/or Star.

There are about 12 Listed or Pictured items to find on each level, none of which are particularly hidden, they are just out in the open which makes the game super easy. I played the entire demo and could max out the combo points on every level without having to speed-click! In the second level, I removed a "nail" that was actually a screw and discovered that a Ladybug does not count as one of the 3 Beetles I was tasked with finding...yes, a ladybug IS a beetle and nails do not have threads and a slit on the top for a screwdriver!

After playing 3 Hidden Object levels, a Mini-game unlocks such as swapping heart-shaped puzzle pieces, or word searches.

This Collector's Edition has 14 Achievements, 23 Wallpapers, 11 Soundtracks, 54 Re-playable Mini-games, a Fun Fact Diary (unlocks when you find Keys), a Campaign Mode with 40 Main Levels and 14 Extra Levels, and an Unlimited Play Mode (unlocks when you find Stars) and Morphing Objects.

However, the cluttered locations and small items, colors too faded and blended into background just made it less fun. I don't think I would play this game to the end.
