Hello, friends! As always, I review mostly on the game play and leave the story to others who do a much better job than I. Finally, a new game and not just another addition to an already too long running series. The graphics in this game are very well done, very clear. Colors are bright and clean and not over powering. Animation is nicely done. Game play was excellent, with no glitches or hic-ups along the way. Voices were age and character appropriate with some emotion. We had a lot more character interaction than anticipated, which I think makes a game far better. You can click through the dialogue without missing any hints, if you read faster than they speak. Sound FX are well done when we have them. Didn't note much in the way of music, but I must admit, I wasn't really paying attention either.

HOG's are very well done and a bit different than what we see all the time. We have a nice combination of highlighted words, duplicate items, color patch match. Puzzles were also a little different. Not extremely difficult, but did take a bit of thought and time to complete. We do have a jump map, which is greatly appreciated. We spend a lot of time in the first location, running back and forth, which was getting monotonous, but then we moved on and all was good.

Collectibles aren't bad. We have 20 puzzle pieces to find. Not as easy as you think. They are large enough to see, not shaped like a jigsaw piece and quite easy to miss. We also have 22 morphing items to find...books that morph into anything they choose. They morph slowly, so they are easy to miss if you bounce around the page.

I was pleasantly surprised by this game and how quickly I got caught up in it...after I got out of the first room. Yes, the story is a "search for someone/something" type of story, but a little different than most. We have storybook characters who show up here and there to help us out. They are inserted at just the right time, and are are tied into the books we find in our collectibles. Very well done. This game isn't all that challenging, but the story was interesting and different and, as I said, I was drawn into it completely by the time the demo ended. I think all levels of players will find this one fun and interesting. Oh yes, I am definitely adding this one to my CE collection. (one of these days, I'll count how many I have). A game has to be exceptional in all aspects to get 5 stars from me. This one fell a hair short, because we needed more background sounds...gave it a 4.75.

As always, try the game out for yourself. We all have different tastes in games and you may not care for this one at all. I'd be surprised if you didn't. Play on! Show less

I love books and i love elephant games. for me, the combination is successful and i think the game is not bad, even though there are certainly weaknesses in the story. Overall, I like the game very much.

Based on the last few years of games this is one of the best to come out in a long while. Review is based on the demo. I wanted to buy it right from the beginning. Interesting story, great graphics and like the puzzles so far. Needless to say I like to read books as well.

I recommend this game!

This game is okay and will be good for those new to the HO adventures. For me however as as long standing member, I found it a little too easy and again rather short.

As we have recently not had a great selection of games in my favoured categorys, I have been played some of my older purchased games and boy do I notice the difference. The games are all at least 6 or 7 chapters and far more ...Show more

As we have recently not had a great selection of games in my favoured categorys, I have been played some of my older purchased games and boy do I notice the difference. The games are all at least 6 or 7 chapters and far more immersive and a challenge and last a lot longer.
For me it seems we are paying a lot more since this new system has been introduced and the games in general are not worthy of the increase.
This is not to say that this game will not challenge some, there are a good mix of HO and puzzles and as I am not into spoilers I will leave it to others should they wish to elaborate. Show less

Novel plots are a bit of a jumble in this delightful new series of book travelers. The graphics and detail are stunning, so this game pleases the eye in every scene.

Novel plots are a bit of a jumble in this delightful new series of book travelers. The graphics and detail are stunning, so this game pleases the eye in every scene.

I like the idea of this series, and I hope the next game pays attention to more detail in the "books" they choose. The storyline is kind of Jane Eyre with a bit of Tom Sawyer, and if the idea was to recreate the experience of book browsing from shelf to shelf in a library, that makes a certain sense. But the bonus chapter reference to The Wizard of Oz makes no sense to me.

So, the pace of play is not smooth, which is not to say it isn't fun. It is. The developer has put a lot of work into changing up tasks and hidden object scenes, also mini-games/puzzles somewhat. I really appreciated this.

Overall, there is a freshness about this game and bonus chapter. Well done, Elephant Games! Show less

The game did not disappoint. It was twisty enough to keep my attention and full of interesting details. The characters were engaging, and as usual for Elephant the illustrations were beautiful and the voice acting was excellent. The majority of the puzzles were intriguing and sufficiently challenging. The bonus chapter was also very well done and really rounded out the story.

I hope to see more from this series and look forward to another adventure with Megan and Renegade! Show less

The title of this game hooked me right away because there are two of my favorite things in it: books and Victorian. As a former librarian, I couldn't wait to play this game.

I have to take away one star because this game is really easy and isn't much of a challenge. It's great for beginners and intermediate players and most will be playing for the fun factor.

It's a nice little game with a story that thinks outside the box. It's enjoyable and a great way to spend some time without overthinking. I recommend the game and its message to pick up a good book. Try the demo to be sure it's for you. Show less
