To me, this MCF is much like they used to be. I've been playing the older MCFs and this one has the same dark colour tones throughout; good story line; the game play makes sense; it's challenging but you are not all over the place and there aren't a millions things to do at once in one setting which is very relaxing and fun because as I said, it makes sense. To me, this MCF is much like they used to be. I've been playing the older MCFs and this one has the same dark colour tones throughout; good story line; the game play makes sense; it's challenging but you are not all over the place and there aren't a millions things to do at once in one setting which is very relaxing and fun because as I said, it makes sense. They have the same challenging step by step puzzles as the older games and they are possible to accomplish although I only did one in the demo. Overall a 5 for me. I really like it. Thank you to the developers and big fish for this game. Very nice surprise. I totally recommend it. Show less

In my opinion, the puzzles, hidden objects, gameplay felt much like the original MCF's that made me a dedicated fan in the first place. I was unsure where this game would go with the legacy and was pleasantly surprised by the story. No game will ever be perfect for everyone, but all who worked on this, well done and thank you!

It all began over 16 years ago - it hardly seems that long, but the dates don't lie - when Charles Dalimar lost his fiance and his sanity in the course of a single game, the Queen herself took a hand in affairs and Master Detective first came to the acquaintance of a very strange place named Ravenhearst. That's all behind us now, or is it? On his way to an opening ceremony for a new headquarters the Master Detective is suddenly plunged into the past in a blast of evil green light and somehow finds himself in the body of a longtime nemesis. The body, but not the mind, and here is an opportunity to make things right before ever they went wrong. But Dalimar caused this, somehow...what's his game?

Pros: Rube Goldberg puzzles, yes! Charles has laid his customary traps in this steampunk world and some of them are really good. Plenty of game play, some references to past games to amuse those of us who have ridden this ride for so long. The graphics are outstanding in both color and detail. Nice balance between HO scenes and mini-games, several of which are quite challenging. Perfect voice acting.

Cons: Nearly nothing. The main question is, how much of the old MCF magic can be revivified? Music is quite good but the MCF theme is nowhere to be found. Dun DUN dun DUN dun DUN dadadada dun DUN...come on, how hard would it be? At least we do get to hear from the clacky typewriter. Yes, I am complaining about sound effects because there's nothing else to complain about.

Writing: Here we make or break the entire thing. The premise is very amusingly executed - we are embodied as Charles and trying to undo his misdeeds when everyone around us thinks us to be the villain that Charles is. That's a pretty tough headwind to navigate. Some beautifully developed secondary characters here, voiced well and convincing. One of them, no, two, seem to sense that something in Charles isn't the villain they know. There was, in the best of the Ravenhearst writing, more than a suggestion of real cruelty - Rose's twins come to mind - that is reflected here, tastefully, but it's there, and it adds an subtle emotional edge that's difficult to pull off in a game such as this. Hats off to the writers and the editors!

Bonus game: OK, buy the CE. Herein we see two of the secondary characters come to life: Angelica, a cruelly exploited maid, and a certain talking cat named Goliath. In the main game Master Detective frees them and this is where they went after he did so. She wants Dalimar - the real one - arrested, but who will listen without evidence? More generous game play.

Overall, I have to say someone finally did it - they managed to recapture the magic. It's been a long wait. Kudos to the entire team at GrandMa and BFG. They've set the bar back where it belongs. Show less

I love the wonderful artwork and graphics, top notch right up there with Vermilion Watch. Great selection of puzzles and HOGs. I have always really liked the multi-part puzzles where there are several things to solve. Nice, classy return to solid games. I just sat and played this game all the way through in one sitting! I loved it! And the way it leaves it open to Charles making a return! Ahhhh! I love it so much! Thanks Big Fish for this amazing game!

The story was well paced and kept me interested till it was completed. Its a nice return to Ravenhearst series that was dearly missed. Great animations, art direction, and set design. A must have for the mystery case file series!

The best game I've seen in a while and a great sequel to the series that centers on the horrific crimes of the Monster Charles Dalimar. Also, it's finally a game that doesn't "kick you out" or freeze the screen. It runs quickly and without errors. In particular, Domini Games should cut off a fat slice of it.

The best game I've seen in a while and a great sequel to the series that centers on the horrific crimes of the Monster Charles Dalimar. Also, it's finally a game that doesn't "kick you out" or freeze the screen. It runs quickly and without errors. In particular, Domini Games should cut off a fat slice of it.
About the plot: should it really be possible to undo Dalimar's incredibly cruel misdeeds? Spoiler alert! I don't want to reveal that, but let yourself be captivated by this extraordinary game. In any case, a high scare factor is guaranteed. From the exciting plot, eerie music and the appropriate eerily beautiful graphics, everything you could wish for is there.
The HOs are nicely mixed and the sometimes very demanding mini-puzzles really challenge the brain. You are used to that from the Dalimar series.
The length of the game with the bonus part is very decent for my taste.
I also liked that you could search for objects hidden in game scenes even after the game was over. Show less
