Not for everyone but I liked it

I am a horror buff so I was looking for something along the line. I bought the sequel and thought before I played it I should play the first game. I saw the low reviews but I like low reviewed horror movies so I thought I would give it a go. Someone said that there was no warning that there was child abuse but before I bought it there is a warning stating the game is for mature audiences. I understood this and still got it, not expecting what will actually show up since I didn't read the reviews, I just looked at the star ratings.

Off the bat, yes it is repetitive. You do hidden object, match tiles, and silhouette hidden object. Basically in that order. There is also one mini game which is pretty easy. I didn't mind any of that. It was different that other HO games I have played and I liked it. The tiles match was harder than the hidden objects, which is fine. Frankly, it reminded me of when I watched Psych, those fine details matter.

The only issue I had was full screen cut off the top a bit so I had to switch it out but without full screen sometimes I couldn't see everything I was supposed to find well. That could, and probably is, just be my computer.

Now I felt all the stories/chapters were all really predictable except for one or two, but that is alright because I was playing it for the story and not the shock of the ending. I felt for the main character and her family the entire time. I played casual, about 2-2.5 hours, but you can also play timed and it will probably go a lot quicker. Honestly, if you are not sure you will like this game just play the demo. I went all in and I liked it, but I also have a stronger tolerance for horror and terrible scenarios. Was it scary, no. Did bad/terrible things happen, yes. As I played on I saw the ghosts and thought, "Huh, their noses look like a pug's nose". Then it was funny for a little bit. As for the child abuse that another reviewer wrote about, it is not hardcore or anything like that. If you ever watched shows about haunted hospitals and asylums where they housed children I can tell you this game is not even close in comparison. The game talks about it once or twice and after a while I forgot about it because I was wrapped up in what Rose was doing, how she was feeling, and the other characters in the story.

So get it, don't get it, I say try the demo. :) Show less

This title is one of my very favorites. The puzzles are challenging and interesting, while the storyline is compelling. If you like the horror genre, this is one for you!

A fight between a divorced couple about how to raise/treat their daughter; a doctor who's experimenting on brains for his own advancement.. Not too far from the truth in many real-life situations. This just takes it to a "horror story" level rather than what happens in real life. Show less

This is very old school and I really, really enjoyed it. Creepy storyline and overall atmosphere. The puzzles were cool and the hidden objects difficult to find, but I enjoy that too.
I love spooky horror games and have played the sequel to this game as well "Redrum Time Lies".
That is even creepier and even more fun!

There are no collectables, no gimmicks like the new games have, it does however make up for it with the story in a big way.

My favourite games series of all time for horror is the "True Fear-Forsaken Souls" and its sequel (hard to find)
I played the first two in the series and many of us are waiting for the final chapter, it is a trilogy and a superb one at that.

So in the mean time, I don't mind amusing myself with this little "Redrum" gem and its sequel. It would be nice to see this also finished as a trilogy, as the second one "Time Lies" ended with a cliffhanger. Show less

Played the demo and was so surprised when it ended because I was so immersed in the story and puzzles/games. I loved it and for those who thought it was gory, I did not see that at all. Maybe I am just affected differently, but in playing the demo, I didnt find anything scary or disturbing to me. Just an enjoyable fun game that I cannot wait to purchase!

I recommend this game!

This is a great game. Wonderful graphics. More of an adult game, which is great! Nice hidden object scenes and great puzzles. Add this one to you collection NOW!

It has a different atmosphere. Story is also thrilling. The red warning is 60% wrong.

Despite all the bad reviews, the synopsis of this game appealed to me, so I decided to give it a spin. I’m so glad I did, because I really enjoyed my trial!

The storyline or rather, storylines was what kept me going. The gruesome details of each case really appealed to me. I’m really into crime and things similar, so this was a really decent story. It’s nice to see that developers are taking us gamers who like this sort of stuff in to consideration. As the synopsis warns: This game is for mature audiences, so do not let your children near this game. I must also add that I really liked the intro, and found myself replaying it time and time again.

The gameplay was very simplistic and varied, which I really enjoyed. The puzzles were as follows:
• Standard HOS
• HOS where you had to find a large group of one certain item
• Grid puzzles
• Shadow HOS
• Anagram Puzzles

While the majority of these puzzles were easy, they still provided great enjoyment to me, especially the Anagram Puzzles. I found myself implying strategies for the harder ones such as the grid puzzle, but I would eventually get them done.

The graphics need a bit of improvement, but overall they were clear. Nothing troubled me visually and the artwork was well done, with the exception of a few grainy scenes.

FEATURES
- Hints. You start off with about 2 hints and you build that up by finding roses in each scene. (there are 2 to collect)
- Diary. The Diary is your main collector of evidence, and it is referred back to constantly, both from Rose’s POV and the Detectives.

Overall, I must say that I disagree with the general opinion because I really enjoyed this game. Although I got through 4 cases in the trial and I still had 12 minutes to go, I’m not sure about the length. I definitely recommend, and think I may buy this with a coupon. Show less
