I'm really going against the grain here. I really like this game – you can’t get lost and never have to wonder what to do next. It’s much, much better than Mystic Diary Haunted Island. I'm really going against the grain here. I really like this game – you can’t get lost and never have to wonder what to do next. It’s much, much better than Mystic Diary Haunted Island. Kept my interest throughout. I really enjoyed it and have played it 3 times. It is on the relatively short side – just over 3 hours.
STORYLINE: You play a magician whose architect brother has disappeared. You know it wasn’t voluntarily because he would never leave his cat alone? The architect found the Mystic Diary – you put in a picture and magically teleport to that location. Now he can’t live without it. The ending was satisfying, but allows the saga to continue.
GAMEPLAY: For each location, you play 2 HOS scenes looking for silhouettes (which are shown at the same angle as the actual object in the location), then you look for other clues in the location and use them to solve a puzzle. Sometimes, inventory items need to be combined to use them. Lastly, you play 1 HOS, looking for a list of objects. The scenes are not too crowded and items are clearly delineated. For slim objects, you usually have to click exactly on the object.
There is no going back and forth – objects are used in the scene in which they are found. Puzzles are varied and not too difficult. At the end of each location, you use a magic magnifying glass to outline a fiery magic symbol to get to the next scene. HINT: Pay attention to the fiery symbols. A journal page then appears with additional story elements and a new scene.
OTHER: Good lively music that changes with the scenes and sound effects. Good graphics. SUMMARY: Although gameplay is straightforward, it is a lot of fun to play. Would have scored 5 stars if objects were a little more blended, but then I don't like hunting for something you can't see well. Show less

Some of the items are very well hidden or rather small so if you have to use the hint button the 60 second recharge can seem like an eternity. I found some objects rather hard to pick up; for instance in the first scene I knew I had to get the pen but it took eight clicks to get it.
There is no choice of gameplay so sparkles & glints abound; you will collect inventory items to use & some will need to be joined together to complete a task. The mini puzzles do not have any help & it can be hard to work out what on earth you are supposed to do but they really are the best part of this game; there is a skip button. Most of the puzzles are reasonable easy, Simon Says, pipes, guide a ball through a maze, etc. Sometimes the dialogue will tell you that magic has been sensed & you will have to guide a magnifying glass around the screen to ‘draw’ a flaming symbol; no idea why & it seems a bit pointless.
The graphics are crisp & the artwork well drawn although it looks a little dated against more modern games. There are no voiceovers & the dialogue is clickable; the music subtle & there are some good background sounds but this does seem to be a very quiet game. It is rather short & I played it in about 2 hours. Show less

Well, this game sure has a lot of HOS to play. At one point I counted three in just one scene. These are straightforward and silhouette which don't take long to do - about a minute each HOS. I found I had to be careful where I clicked on an item because it can be very picky. I tried to click on a cane, which I knew was the right item, but it took me several tries. I depends on where you click on it. I found that a bit annoying.
The mini-games are very basic which we have all seen before. They don't take long to do.
All up the game took me about 4 hours to play and I wasn't playing fast or skipping any mini-games.
I know this is an old game without any bells or whistles, but it is a nice game to play without giving too much thought. I played it in between all the other big games out there that we all play and it was just nice to chill out and not think too much.
I'm about to start 'Mystic Diary - Haunted Island' which carries on from this game.
So, if you feel in the mood to chill out and like lots of HOS, then this game is for you. Show less

This is an old game, and so it has the graphics and gameplay of its time, and cannot be compared with modern games. But it definitely is interesting and quite comfortable to play.
The graphics are grainy and fuzzy, and it does make it harder to find items. There is also the distortion which comes from playing it on a widescreen. You can adjust this (presumably to a window form) but it requires a restart. Too much bother for me to do it. Other than these age factors, the images are quite nice, colourful in some more than others, many different locations with entirely different worlds.
The music was what I can only describe as sweet. There was what, I dunno, innocence about it? Whatever, it sounded good, and was accompanied by a variety of ambient sounds.
There are 3 types of HOPs to play. Each location has 2 HOP scenes where silhouettes of the items are given. They each also have a word list (no interaction, developed 2009 remember), and the items can be found anywhere in the site. Some chapters also have a multiple items search as well. Some items can be combined in inventory.
Puzzles are rare and easy. Because the game is played in discreet units, the hint system points to what you’ve missed within that location. The Mystic Diary is helpful as well. No need for a map. You also have a magic magnifier which shows the magic siguls in the air (a simple cover-the-image mini-game).
I’m not going to rave about this game. It is pretty basic. But not without its charm. And it might just make it as a dreamy afternoon kind of game. Show less

Not much to say here. The entire game consisted of hidden object scenes (and not very interesting ones at that), tied to a familiar, yet uneven, storyline. Deduct a star if you abandon these types of games before finishing them.
I don't recommend this game.

This game is an old school HOS game. You are on a mission to find your lost brother. There are no voice overs, you read the dialogue. There is a diary page about each scene. There are multiple HOS in each area. You have to complete a task to end each scene and go to the next.
If you are looking for an easy to play, old school game with lots of HOS to play, this is the game for you.
I don't recommend this game.

I bought this game because I liked the other Mystic Diary one and presumed this one would be good too.
It is so dull. The hidden objects are dull, the story line DULL and the challenges are not challenging at all.
All in all DULLSVILLE!
save your money there are some great games on Big Fish and this is not one of them.. I am glad I paid Sale Price for this one.
