its fun building the railway tracks and turning the points and lights. picking up crops and milk fun and easy for any age to play.

I was looking through old games, and discovered this little gem. It's not like any of the time management games I've seen in the past few years, including the other railroad-building games. This has a high puzzle factor, as well as combining both road-building and cooking-type time-management elements. It also really feels like building a model railroad--just the track-and-trains part, not the scenery building.

Rather than building a pre-determined route, in this game you're offered possible routes and have to determine the optimal connections to reach various destinations. These include raw materials pick-ups, and both drop-offs and pick-ups for factories as well as the depot(s) where you can sell materials and products. For example, you might need to pick up corn and drop it off at a bread factory, then pick up the the bread and MORE corn to sell both at the depot. This can be complicated by the number of cars you can pull (1, 2, 3, or 4).

Once everything is built, you also may have to make on-the-fly decisions about switching at junctions. This gets more complicated as the objectives get more complicated, and your number of trains increases.

There are other complications and obstacles introduced in different levels; some require careful route plotting ahead of time, while others require quick reflexes--and the really hard levels require both.

I can generally fly through most time management games on expert level, but I'm finding this one very challenging. There are power-ups that you can buy along the way, but they don't make as huge a difference as in some games. For example, you can buy extra time--but it drops randomly on the tracks, and must be "picked up" by a train, so on complicated tracks it can take almost as long to pick up as it gives you, and you can't just wait until the last moment to purchase it.

Overall, I recommend trying this if you like time management and want to try something a little different. Show less

The premise of this game is pretty simple: build train tracks to allow the transport of food between farms and towns and food production facilities (e.g. taking tomatoes and producing ketchup). Your objective for each level is to deliver the specified quantities of items to town in the given time.

A lot of the fun comes from playing with the trains. Part of the track is usually laid out for you but you get to fill in the rest however you want. You can also switch the tracks (controlling whether the train turns or goes straight) and toggle traffic lights which will make the train reverse direction when it hits a red light. Loading and unloading of goods is automatic so all you need to do is plan your routes. Clicking on the train gives it a burst of speed (and a cute "choo choo" sound and puffs of smoke).

There are about eight levels within a chapter, which represents a specific region on the map. This means that your previously built tracks carry on to the next level within a chapter. There are also special levels called "Maneuvers" where typically you have no stations and you're challenged to lay down tracks and to pick up the specified quantities of food in the given amount of time. These have the feel of mini-games or puzzles, and are a nice break from the regular gameplay.

A significant gameplay element is the ability to buy power ups with "stars" you get at the end of each level (the faster you finish, the more stars). There are a variety of power ups, like maintaining the faster speed of the train (after clicking on it) for a longer time, or unloading goods more quickly. The MOST important one is extra time, and unfortunately I think this one makes the main game much too easy after you get it.

The game is a good challenge to get expert time once you get past the introductory levels. There were some I repeated several times and just managed to squeeze in with seconds to spare. However, once I got the "extra time" bonus, all of the levels became really easy and I didn't have to replay many levels to get expert. Also, since you can replay earlier levels and use all the power ups you've earned, you can get expert time with ease. The game does include several bonus levels which actually are challenging, but I'd prefer the main game to be tough. Show less

The game starts out okay, but it forces you to do what it wants, not what you want. If you have milk and pick up corn, it forces you to go to town and sell rather than let you take the corn to the popcorn factory.

I don't recommend this game.

Another major bug-bear for me was that as I am left-handed the game doesn't recognise this and is defaulted to use for a right-handed person, just to give fair-warning.

The game play is basically building the railroad while picking up and delivering Goods. You have to decide which way to build the railroad in order to beat the clock for the highest award. There is only 1 timed mode and difficulty level.

What really turned me off on the game is an arcade event where cows were dropped on the tracks and you have to click on them to chase them away. They leave behind milk cars, which if too many get piled on your engine crashes. That was too much.

I quit the game at level 7. Another thing I hated is that you can't go from full screen to window mode while playing the game, you have to go back to the main interface. Show less
