YES! Again a story "very similar" with many others, but so highly developed, with excellent graphics, amazing sound and VO, outstanding videos (which can be watched again in the menu) and awesome atmosphere that after the free trial you will want to buy ! (I bought the CE, for being more complete!)
It has a journal with: diary, tasks, story and photos (you will taking pictures of the locations - help you to know where you have to go back).
Amount of HOS very well balanced. Interactive but easy, and with the objects as ever - hammer, butterfly, bell, brush ...).
Some mini games, not challenging and those I played, were no different from usual. The game is great entertainment in the adventure, the places to be explored, special effects and visual game.
And so what if the subject is the same ... what matters is that the game offers plenty of fun !

GAME COMPLETED TWICE
How quickly we forget. I last played this game a year ago, and had forgotten all the best bits. This really is a spectacular HO Adventure. Notice I didn’t say Puzzle, because there are precisely 4 (easy) puzzles in the whole game.
But it is certainly as good as any HOPA out there, and for “immersive gameplay” it leaves most behind. Personally, I was happy to scratch my head over where to get a shovel rather than pushing buttons aimlessly trying to make them all stay down.
Leaving the sound on is a must for this one. Between the sudden crash of thunder, and the abrupt starts and finishes to short musical pieces, to the hollow ringing of your shoes on the pavement, sound really makes this the true thriller it is.
It is also a mature, professional and well crafted game. First class production values all round. Top quality graphics, and a very involving story.
You inherit an estate in England, complete with creepy butler and ghost, and from the start it’s clear you’re not welcome. The manor and its grounds are huge, with hidden rooms and royal ancestry all wrapped up in a love story gone wrong. Slowly, you piece together what has gone before and work to appeasing your poltergeist.
I loved playing this game, but I must point out one gripe. The ending is designed to hook you for the CE. What is the point? We’ve bought the SE, we’re stuck with it. Those last 30 seconds just frustrate.
And so I am left with just one thought – Did the butler do it? I’ll never know, I bought the SE. Show less

This game is one of the most atmospheric games I have played and I think I have played quite a few of this kind.
The thing that really catches me with this game was there were no annoying useless voice over or cardboard cut out figures appearing all the time. The graphics combined with the sound literally made me jump at times when it was suppose to. The videos throughout and during makes this game feel like a movie that you don't want to pull away from.
Choice of difficulty and the rest like other HOB games. Puzzles and HOB were good and some were easy.
However, this is one game that must try and those very few in which I could not pull myself away from. Flows very well. I have been trying to find something with similar feel and still have not found one yet. Absolutely recommend.

This is a really fun game to play. It is not hard at all and if you need help the hint button works great. Fast reload time. Does not have voice over and you do need to go all over the place to find clues but the flow is good. It is a long game and just a fun one to play.

With the sale going on this weekend, and the in-depth reviews from the other reviewers, I thought I'd try the SE version and give it another chance. Boy, everyone was right. This is an excellent game! A nice gray, dark theme and the perfect game for a chilly Saturday afternoon. The ratio of puzzles to HOS was excellent. Too many games are relying on 70% HOS, which has become a bit boring and "done that". Game seemed nice and long, the scenes tied into each other and made sense, and the game really kept my interest. This is a must have for your collection! Show less

This is a wonderfully well-crafted hidden-object, puzzle adventure game which strikes a good balance between all these aspects.
Having loved the previous title in the series, I bought the CE version and was not disappointed.
The developers really know how to tell a good story, not just through excellent writing, but also through visual effects, sounds and music. As with the first game, this is designed to literally make you shiver with its chilly atmosphere.
While the theme has been over-done in the genre, this series was one of the original "darker" games.
An excellent in-game hint system negates any need for a strategy guide or external reference. Puzzles are fun, attempt to different, and instructions are clear.
The storyline is complete but not satisfying (as in "too many loose ends") without the bonus play from the CE, however the length and quality of the general game make this well worth the SE price.
Shiver: the Hitchhiker remains my favorite of the two so far, but this is still a wonderful addition to what is hopefully an on-going series. Show less

I hardly ever use the hint button to point me in the right direction. That's part of the adventure! And a few times I thought the game was drawing to a close, but then whole new locations would open up.
Even if you didn't like the first Shiver game, at least give this a try...you might be surprised!

I loved this game. It was technically superior to every other game I've played. I couldn't stop playing until I finished. My family thought I'd abandoned them. Oops. Obviously it was tons of fun.
The VOs were exceptional as were the cut scenes. There were many of them and this contributed to this game being ADVENTURE first, HOG second. There were plenty of HOGs and they were well executed, and meaningful in terms of what was added to the inventory. But, there weren't HOS every other minute and I like it like that. This is the perfect ratio of adventure to HOG.
There were several puzzles but I didn't find them enormously challenging. They were all fun and unlike some other games, the puzzles weren't thrown in just to make the game longer.
Although there was a bit of the back and forth, the moves didn't seem wasted. I achieved something, learned something, added something to the inventory and had to go back to use it.
Fun Factor: As I said above, this was VERY fun.
Visual/Sound Quality: Again, as I said above, the VOs were great. The visual quality was excellent. It was a dark and moody adventure and the lighting was slightly muted to give that feel. (It also rained in the story the whole time and that was great). The Music is the BEST PAIRING with a game I have ever heard. It never got in the way and was never boring. I think the music contributed to the game in a way I've never experienced. It was moving.
The challenge was there, but I really took my time with this and enjoyed the great audio-visuals and the game play so I was careful, thoughtful and rarely got stuck.
Here's a couple negatives: In part one we are introduced to the two main characters. One is the unseen protagonist and the other is an antagonist (I Think). After the first part of the game we never see the antagonist again. I think he could have played a pivotal, interactive role, highlighting the antagonism but it just didn't happen.
The other negative is the abrupt, inconclusive ending. Now, this game is either begging for a sequel OR it's wise to buy the CE, not the SE as I did because of the "Shiver" bundle sale from BFG.
These negatives DO NOT diminish the value, enjoyment or quality of this game. I'm sorry I can't be more specific about what I mean. I promise, you will not be disappointed when you play this. You will know that you've experienced something very special. In fact, even with the negatives, this is my new favorite game! Show less

I've waited not-so-patiently for this game to be released after seeing the Collector's Edition. Sometimes we seem to wait an awfully long time. Shiver:Vanished Hitchhiker was such a superb game that I figured the chances were that this would be pretty good too. It turned out to be maybe not quite as good but worthy none-the-less. I admit to not paying that much attention to the story line but I was still kept gripped by the game. I played the version with no hints and the only puzzle I found annoying was the one with the moons as the numbers seemed a bit hard to read but otherwise the others weren't a problem. Perhaps one criticism is that there weren't enough tradtitional puzzles in the game. The hidden object scenes weren't too difficult but were slightly more clever than many I've played.
One previous reviewer commented on the grey and rainy effect having something to do with being set in England which annoyed me a bit. It was merely for atmosphere-a sunny setting wouldn't seem very spooky, would it?
I have absolutely no interest in ghosts nor do I believe in them which probably tempers the eerieness a bit and I have certainly found other games more scary. But it doesn't really detract from the enjoyment of playing the game and it was still a few hours well spent. Show less
