A few years ago when I purchased the original Virtual Families there were things that I wished had been options in that game... they read my mind with #2. You still adopt your little person, they can get married and have children. They have careers and can advance in them. You still find collectibles in the yard and have challenges that are optional to meet. You still have a praise and scolding glove. You can still buy upgrades for the house. You still pull weeds, answer e-mails, clean up the house etc.
THINGS THAT I NOTICED WERE DIFFERENT FROM VF1:
*You can personalize your upgrades for each room (ex: choose the type & style of furnishings) and there are many of each style of item to choose from.
*Your little person can attend online courses for personal enrichment or take a career advancing course.
*There are several rooms both indoors and outdoors that need to be fixed up before they can be furnished or used.
*Your house is WAY larger than the house in the original
*The music is different, several songs this time (all soothing) that play in a loop, unlike the 2 songs from the first game that while beautiful were rather sad.
*You receive 25 coins each time you complete a challenge
*The little people who make the most amount of money in their careers are usually the ones who do not want children.
*The store has many new items to choose from
*Many more characters to choose from
*The game auto-saves automatically every few minutes
I highly recommend this game and I'm excited to get back to playing. Show less

I love this game! I see the reviews are very divided, but if you loved VF1, you should definately love VF2! Sure, I have the 'jerky' mouse problem too, but it's very managable. There are many improvements in this game, many things are better than in VF1.

1: The house is so much bigger.
2: You can arrange the items around the house as you wish.
3: There are so many more items to buy in the store.
4: Some things are locked until further generations, so it 'saves' some of the fun for later, and it gives the player a reason to keep playing for a very long time.
5: You can choose which room becomes what, for example: one player could decide to use a room as a bedroom, while another player could decide to use that same room as a living room.
6: There are new things to do...
Try this game and find out what those new things are! Show less

If you liked Virtual Families, this one is more of the same (in a good way)!

This is more of a life simulation game rather than a strategy game, really. I suppose there's a little bit of strategy involved at some points, and there are some puzzles/things to figure out. Your goal, like the name says, is to create a little virtual family. You start off with one person, then marry them off and begin to have them have children.
- Graphics are more crisp and clear than the previous game. I find the little people to be much more adorable now.
- Instead of scrolling through menus with the mouse wheel, you have to click and drag the menu up/down. Kind of annoying.
- The house starts off with very few usable rooms. Some you can pay to have a construction crew come fix, and others need you to solve a puzzle first.
- You can now decorate your house how you like, including moving furniture around.
- Furniture can be bought in order to redecorate. However, lots of furniture pieces are locked in the store until you reach a certain generation in-game! I really don't care for that, honestly.
- Certain tasks, like heating up food and preparing meals, still take forever. Also, your people are still a little scatterbrained.
- There are multiple stores to purchase things from (all located in the same menu area), and there are sales on random items that change every once in a while.
- There are collectibles like in the first game. Any extras/duplicates you find are automatically sold, and you're given the cash.
- There are trophies (or "goals") to get. Some of them look quite hard and will involve lots of time playing the game.
All in all, I really like this game. My biggest problem is that for some reason, when playing in windowed mode the mouse feels a little unwieldy. It doesn't feel like this in windowed mode, though. Show less

Love all the new stuff you can get for the house.
Suggestions for next version -
1. When the new spouse arrives have friends show up ala the construction crew & throw some confetti & pop some champagne!
2. Let players put stuff at an angle if they want to.
3. Let us name the pets
4. Have a postman drop off mail.
5. Have at least a joint Birthday party for Kids & an anniversary party every decade the parents are married!
All in all for this type of game it ROCKS!

Once I saw that Big Fish had this game available for download, I downloaded the free trial. Was I disappointed? Not in the slightest.

Once I saw that Big Fish had this game available for download, I downloaded the free trial. Was I disappointed? Not in the slightest.
This game starts off very similarly to the first - choose a character, get them started on their career, try to get married, you know the drill. But there's a lot of things that make this one stand out.
• First off, the graphics look very nice. They're much more updated and the people don't look pixely anymore.
• The house is very large. Not every room is available at first, which makes it interesting once you get those rooms.
• You can customize the furniture in the house, which I thought was a REALLY great idea. You can buy from all kinds of furniture and place them wherever you want in the house. Once they are in the house, people can interact with it (for example, if you buy a sofa, the people can sit on the sofa). I liked that.
• The store has a ton of stuff you can buy.
And I also liked the music. It doesn't sound nearly as depressing as it does in the original game.
There are a few downsides, though.
• The people are slow. If you played the first game, this shouldn't come as a surprise, but...it takes about 3 minutes to put away groceries and 5 minutes to make a meal. So things take a little longer than in the first game.
• The mouse gets "jumpy" pretty easily, and that makes it a little difficult to navigate around things.
And there are so many other features in this game, that I'd say this is worth a buy if you loved the original game.

The virtual families were OK but..... this game is much better. In the other one, sure they gave you some stuff to do but with this one you actually get to rebuild the house and then play it,make a family or complete trophies, medals and get cash in completing a few. So if someone is thinking of downloading/purchasing this game I would if I were you!
Happy Gaming! x

This game is SO satisfying [at some level] to me...because I keep playing it for a short while EVERY day but never seem to get bored with it for long even though it's repetitive at times. The people always change and the family dynamics do too. Last week, my couple had triplet boys: they were very active and naughty lil rascals so I had to pause the game when I went afk just so they would age as slowly as possible. Omg it was such a fun lively home when they were running all over and giggling and testing all the COOL new toys that are now available here. My only complaint is that I'm unable to buy money anywhere [even though you can with an iPad] so in my laptop, I have to earn everything by working my people hard. And long. The music is haunting & lovely in this game and in its predecessor. To be honest, I LOVE both versions of Virtual Families [even though they are slow-moving] and I rate them both five stars. ***** Show less
