… MCF is back and better than EVER!! Graphics tremendously welldone, even in the darker scenes (you may adjust the Gamma in the options)! Story is thrilling and the characters are drawn; animations are great. Lots of things in the scenes to interact with…
Facts: 14 chapters plus bonus-chapter, 4 difficultiy-modes to choose from - a 5th will be unlocked after finishing the game and comes along with time-limits, lockable inventory, strategy-guide doesn’t follow your progress, note-book is worth a look at, as there are additional minigames and important notes, hint opens a portal for fast travel, interactive map shows active areas and allows you to jump, an egyptian cat is your help, to get things out of your reach.
15 hidden-object-scenes (plus 3 in the bonus-chapter) with slightly interactions and puzzles, all from list and all just played once. Items are good to find!
I’ve counted 28 (!) minigames (plus around 20 in the bonus-chapter), some on the easy side, like „find out the correct combination“, swap tiles (or books, or gems…), repeat sequences. But what makes this game unique are those so-called „super puzzles“: wonderful and tricky chain-reaction minigames, where you have to find out clues and use things in the right order… There are 10 of those in the main-game (plus 3 in the bonus-chapter).
A big bunch of extras: 17 achievements to earn, 20 morphing Solitaire Cards (also hidden in the HOS), 12 morphing bobbleheads, collections of those bobbleheads and 12 doomed prisoners (the souls you’ve released), a shop for your cat (needful things for Isis), Mutoscope films, Solitaire-game, wallpapers, music, concept-art, videos.
Fate’s Carnival is an extremly long-lasting game! It took me about 6 hours (in easy mode!) to complete the main-game and I’m still „working“ on the bonus-chapter!! Wow, EXTREMELY recommendable!! :) Show less
I recommend this game!

The worlds best and biggest Hidden Object Franchise is back with it's tenth installment. After Shadow Lake, which was not their best game they changed something and now they're back on track with an awesome game!
Nearly everyone has played the fourth installment in the series, where Madame Fate needs the Master Detectives help to reveal her killer. Now after six years we return to Fate's Carnival.
The storyline continues the Madame Fate story and the Ravenhearst story arc. As you arrive at the carnival Madame Fate awaits you to tell you that the past is returning and that she needs our help to break the horrible curse the place is trapped in. Soon you know that Charles father Alister is the villain this time and all the carnival acts which were doomed in 2007 are still trapped and about to meet their end. You have to save twelwe of them, but for some every help will be too late. The storyline is so great and it reveals many twists and answers for the Ravenhearst storyline.
This game has benn developned by Elephant games, together with BFG Studios, so the graphics are a bit different from the last two games in the series, but they are great. They are very clear and detailed and have many special effects.
The sounds have a great Quality and fit into the game, like you can expect it, but sadly there are new sounds. I would prefer the old sounds, to give the game the special MCF feeling. Now it feels a bit like Mystery Trackers.
The soundtrack is nice. There are new tracks mixed with the classic MCF main theme music, which I love sooo much. So I rate this with 5 out of 5 Points too, because graphics and music together give the game a great, creepy atmosphere.
The Level of challenge is excellent.
There are five (!) difficoulty modes. From "Easy Knivel to "Alister's watch". In the last installment Shadow Lake everything was very easy, but now the old MCF challenge has returned. The Hidden Object Scenes are slightly interactive and easy to beat, but that's nearly the only easy thing. Many of the mini games are very difficould. Sometimes I needed over 5 minutes to complete a puzzle. But there are also easier ones, so something for everyone. The gameplay has a good pace and it's not really easy, because some objects stay for a long time in the inventory list until you find a place to use them. Nice job here. While playing you have to be on the lookout for morphing bobble head dolls, old pounds and morphing cards. It's not easy to find them all, because the cards are often hidden in HO's and the bobble heads are morphing slowly, so you Need to look carefully to find them.
With the cards you can play a solitaire game.
As a pet helper Madame Fate's cat Isis can assist you to gather things out of reach. With the old pounds you can decorate her home.
The Collector's Edition includes so much Bonus content this time. You can play solitaire, decorate Isis home, play a long bonus chapter, play every mini game and HO's again in a secret room, there are wallpapers, concept arts, Soundtrack, cutscenes,...
So afterall I have to say that Mystery Case Files is and stays as the best Hidden Object game series in the world for me. For the next game only bring back the old sounds please! Nice Job BigFish Studios and Elephant Games!!! Keep up the excellent work! Show less

Detective, you have been called to the scene of one of your previous cases Fate’s Carnival, where you will meet the ghosts of some favorite or maybe not so favorite characters from the past. When you meet the ghost of Madame Fate she tells you that her old curse is now yours. Will you be able to solve the mystery of Fate’s Carnival and release the souls imprisoned by the Dark Sorcerer - Alister Dalimar?
With BFG turning over the development of Fate’s Carnival to Elephant Games we have top-notch, gorgeous graphics. And a big hooray, it is so wonderful to note that the devs at Elephant Games have now given us lip-synced voiceovers that elevate this game to a whole new level. I found the entire sound package to be excellent and it really added to the overall spookiness of Fate’s Carnival.
Very soon after you begin the game you will find the Black Diary that is a bit different from the typical diary that we usually have in games. Because there are so many unique facets to the game, I don’t want to say more and spoil your fun but will only say that your diary is certainly more than meets the eye. The MCF Case File located on the left of your screen is where you can access the Shop and other parts of the bonus content but most importantly, it is where you will find your interactive transportable map.
The interactive HOS are primarily the list type and I found it very hard to find some items as they are so well hidden. but that just adds to the fun and creates more challenge. As far as the puzzles are concerned there is nothing really new but some of them can be challenging such as with the scenario type puzzles, which quite frankly I hate but others are more fun.
In the CE content you will be able to collect twenty special cards that will allow you to play solitaire upon completion of the game. You also can collect twelve morphing bobble-head dolls, all characters from the previous MCF games. Then you will also come across old pounds to collect that can be used in the shop. Aside from the collectibles there are achievements to be earned and morphing objects galore. A secret room is also included in the bonus content and it can be accessed only after completing the game plus the bonus chapter. Wow, truly a great CE value and well worth the price.
After the last several MCF games I was swore I would never try another one. But I am so impressed with Fate’s Carnival, which takes me back to what I loved about the original MCF games, that I purchased the game right away. I think it was a good idea to turn the franchise over to Elephant Games who did an incredible job of bringing us an update on the Madame Fate story. Although creepy carnivals are not something I enjoy, I loved this game. It was so visually appealing and the gameplay was great. I must admit there were several times that I actually jumped because something unexpected happened. Although I’m more a fan of the fairy tale or fantasy type games, Fate’s Carnival captured my attention from the very first scene. I guess we all need a spooky, creepy game for a change of pace – even me. As always, I recommend that you at least try the demo to see if this is a game you will like. Show less

Mystery Case Files: Fate's Carnival
Developed by Big Fish Games and Elephant Games
Collector's Edition
Review based on demo
IN THE BEGINNING...
You're sent to cheek out an anomaly at the site of one of your previous investigations…Madame Fate's Carnival! Her ghost appears and tells you that you've inherited her curse, and you must save all the carnival performers. Will you finally discover the connection between the Carnival and Charles Dalimar? Is Dalimar behind all this once again?
PLAY THE GAME...
Oh, frabjous day! MCF has returned! There's a lot to do at Fate's Carnival. Lots to collect and use in adventure mode, interactive HO scenes, beautifully designed original puzzles and locks reminiscent of the original Ravenhearst, and three sets of bonus objects to collect. You do have an animal helper, but she is decidedly not cute. It's brilliant.
SIGHTSEEING…
The graphics are colorful, yet maintain that supernatural, somewhat creepy mood without being dark. The style is artistic yet realistic, as it was in Madame Fate. The animation is quite well done, and there are some startlingly frightening moments that had me jump in my chair.
SOUND WAVES…
The music consists of variations on the MCF theme, but it's never intrusive and ebbs and flows with the gameplay rather nicely. Sound effects are excellent and voiceovers are totally professional.
TOOLBOX…
I saw no map, but I don't think we'll need one. The journal, besides being informative, is a work of art in and of itself. I didn't peek at the Strategy Guide. There are five (yes, I said five) difficulty modes.
EXTRA, EXTRA…
The CE offers a bonus game, three sets of collectibles, a solitaire game, achievements, and the usual cast of characters from music to screensavers.
THE LAST WORD…
Just based on the demo, I must say that the partnership between BFG and Elephant has truly set the bar to a new and higher level. Fate's Carnival is utterly immersive, to the point that I was taken by surprise when the hour demo was over. This is a definite buy for me.

BASED ON DEMO
FIRST IMPRESSIONS
I know everyone has been waiting breathlessly to see if the new developers of this game (Elephant) could possibly bring us a game that is all that the MCF series (you could almost call it a tradition) means to the fans. Especially seeing Elephant are not known for making games with a high level of creepy, or difficulty.
In order to prepare myself for this game, I have just finished attempting to play the original MCF: Madam Fate, of which this is the sequel. The similarities are amazing. The result is a game with the degree of more difficult gameplay, creepy atmosphere and solid story of the original game, joined with the exceptional graphics, ‘spectacular’ effects, and the bling! of an Elephant game.
SIGHTS & SOUNDS
Very high standard, as you’d expect. The graphics are dark, but richly colour drenched and clear. Lots of purple, flashing lights and animated fluff to liven up the scenes. Characters from Madam Fate are so close to their earlier pictures, it is as if the same artist has done them. The sounds of the carnival are creepy, there’s not a lot of voiceover, but it is as excellent as last time around. Music in tune with the theme and some of it is lifted directly from the earlier game. There are also a lot of pauses in the music where you only have carnival sounds around you. Tense.
WHAT’S HAPPENING
Well, we’re back at the end of the game Madame Fate, with a small difference, Madame Fate is back from the dead and in need of our help. As yet it is not clear what that entails, but it is to do with lifting a curse. I felt the backstory of the game was lacking. I haven’t completed Madam Fate yet, and I felt a little lost. Much worse if you’ve not played Madam at all.
GAMEPLAY
Classic MCF gameplay. Trickier than usual puzzles, and puzzle boards. The puzzles are remarkable in themselves, mostly original, but in keeping with the carnival (and MCF) theme, and requiring a good bit of brain strain. Puzzle boards are a real problem for me, I’m hopeless at them, but I don’t want to skip them all either. So the good news is there are puzzle hints available on the board! Excellent!
Two of my favourite puzzles from the earlier game I have not yet seen here – word puzzles, and finding multiples of a single item or two on a pic of one of the characters. These are always fun. The only HOPs are few and far between, and are very interactive, with complex actions required to get the item. Some of the items are moving and must be caught when they’re visible.
BLING!
There are oodles of collectibles, achievements, and extra gameplay. Some of these I think may not be CE exclusives.
*Standard Features: Gallery items, bonus chapter, in-game Strategy Guide
*Morphing Cards (in the HOPs), which allow you to play in-game solitaire
*Old Pounds (banknotes, used with Isis)
*Bobble-head figures (12)
*Doomed (a page with the info cards of each of the characters)
*Achievements (beautiful fans for trophies)
*Solitaire (can be played any time inside the game). Others have wondered what the point is, but I like this feature – I find mega-games like this one tiring, and would enjoy a little break from the brain strain without leaving the game
*Mutoscope, which is a strange recording device you use in the game to see backstory, and can replay in the Extras
*Isis – your cat assistant. You can buy stuff for her with the collectible “old pounds”
*Spirits Of Blackpool preview – a Play 4 Free by the looks of it
*Secret Room – which will probably be like others Elephant have done and SPOILER! Be the equivalent of a Reader’s Digest of the game, using all the puzzles, but in a supplementary story that is skeletal.
FINAL THOUGHTS
I (unlike every other fish in the oceans) am not a big fan of the MCF games, but love Elephant games. So I was intrigued to see how the combination would appeal to me. I think it is an excellent meshing of two styles into an overall exceptional game. Whether I’ll be able to work out enough of the puzzles to complete it is another question altogether!

Now just from the little time I have played so far, everything looks absolutely astounding! I was so excited to write my review so I stopped playing a short while after getting into this game which was hard to get out of since I wanted to just stay with it. The graphics are wonderful which is no surprise coming from Elephant games along with BF and the music and sound effects are fantastic as well. So far, the mini games aren't that difficult but some new and different and you get to collect morphing bobble heads which are the "old" characters from Madame Fate which was my favorite game of all of the MCF's. There are a lot of achievements to earn and I haven't yet collected all of the cards to play solitaire but I look forward to that. There are quite a few different modes to choose to play. Well, in case you can't tell how excited I am, I've just got to get back to this awesome game! Show less

The pros at MCF have teamed up with the pros from Elephant Games to create a gem of great brilliance. Madame Fate, although it pales in the gameplay to some of the newer games ( due to advances in technology ) has yet remained among the favorites for HOG, HOPA fans. Fate's Carnival takes the best of Madame Fate and combines it with the best of the newest techniques to deliver an outstanding game.
The graphics are of the highest quality, the HOG scenes are not in any way junkpile, and the puzzles should offer gamers a fair share of head scratching yet enjoyable consternation. I am pleased that the Fate related puzzles offer quick hints to those who get stuck. I always do the demo in the easiest mode available so as to get as much completed in the allotted hour. I won't go into too much detail as other reviewers will inevitably do so. I tend not to read those. It's the same as avoiding to read the blurbs in a novel's dust jacket. Carnival at first blush is superior to last season's Shadow Lake, which by the way got an unjustified bad rap by too many reviewers. MCF has generally raised the bar with each new entry so it was inevitable that a toe would be stubbed along the way. I'll be buying Carnival as soon as I end this review. As always, I urge players to complete the demo and to be your own judge. With Thanksgiving Day imminent, the developers are giving us anything but a turkey.
Enjoy!!!
