John Forgehill was desperate to cure his daughters blindness, working day and night, trying every remedy he could think of to no avail. His obsession led him to the devil himself who warned John that the cure bore a heavy price, but so be it. 15 Years later Emily Forgehill has become a tough as nails Huntress who is positive that her sight and her father's disappearance are no coincidence. Ghostly wolves and strange storms are plaguing the town of Ridelton, with every storm, a citizen disappears. You join forces with Emily to fight the towns evil forces and hopefully restore peace to a town that was once tranquil.
I really prefer the Collectors Edition over this Standard Edition because I loved collecting those dancing embers that burst into flames when you clicked on them! Emily may have a sweet and intimidating crossbow but you have a cute fuzzy Red Panda (that was supposed to be funny) that knows kung foo, and can easily finagle locks and reach into tight spaces for items that no crossbow has ever been! Some items have plus signs indicating that some type of interaction needs to take place before using that item or that another inventory item needs to be combined with it before using it. Emily will give you a communications mirror that can be used to contact her with vital information, and eventually she will give you her weapon of choice, the only weapon that can kill those vicious ghostly wolves, a Hunters Crossbow.
The Hidden Object Scenes were a bit disappointing to me, they were just okay in my book, slightly interactive list finds, or fragment finds. The HO's are repeated a second time which is a feature I really hate, it's too boring the second time around, but at least the second time was a different type such as finding 12 shells, and the shells weren't present in the first scene. The mini games however aren't bad, most are simple such as pushing two buttons correctly to open 5 different latches and of course they need to be pushed in a specific order. There are also several symbols in groups of three that are hidden within a book and when you rescue the Panda you will need to swap several knots of various configurations until they match the symbols shown at the top of each column or cage bar.
The Collectors Edition has 168 Collectible Flames that will eventually light candles to shed light on the mysterious events taking place within the city, Wallpapers, Concept Art, Achievements, Music, Movies, a built in Strategy Guide, a Bonus Chapter, AND a Hidden Chapter once you complete the lighting of all the candles within the flame room, enjoy! there is no custom level on this game, but there is an interactive map. you have been summoned to ridleton to find out where all the people are going and what is causing the storms. you have the help of a red panda and the huntress to guide you. the graphics are great. i enjoyed it a lot. the hints took about 30 secs to recharge but the skips were a little longer. sequel.....sure.

Presently, popular games are fire and brimstone scary. Those gamers who aren't particularly fond of shock treatment will appreciate the earlier Whispered Secrets.

The graphics are just superb - crystal clear and colourful - right throughout the game. I loved that.
The music is beautiful - orchestral - and I kept it on the whole time. Its not intrusive and plays quietly in the background.
There are a lot of interactive hidden object games to play - standard ones and silhouette. These are easy to play and don't take too long to do which can distract you from the game.
There is a panda to help you throughout the game to reach places you can't get. I liked that. In the CE game you can personally name him.
Well, where do I begin with all the mini-games? There are soooo many to play. Some are easy and you can get them right away and others took me a very long time. They are not hard to do - its just that some can take a while to work out and then conquer. I loved every one of them. Well done developers.
I found that I didn't need to use the interactive map because you pretty much only need to go a few steps forwards or backwards to complete tasks. You don't veer off far and its easy to remember where tasks are to do. It also shows where you still have tasks to do. I also tried the hint, which worked well and filled up again very fast.
So overall, if you want a game that has great graphics, nice music and plenty of HOS and mini-games for keep you busy, then this is the game for you.
Now, do you buy the Collectors Edition or the single edition? Personally, with the 168 flames to find, plus the bonus and hidden chapter, I think the Collectors Edition is definitely worth buying to add to your collection.
Definitely recommended. Show less

This is an enjoyable game to play with lots to do and see. Most of the mini games are easy, except for a handful that are tedious to solve. Artwork is good to excellent. Inanimate objects are well done, but the characters are either really well done or just average. Voiceovers are OK, but lip movement doesn't always match with spoken sound.

The weakest link in the game is the storyline, which is farfetched and forgettable. The time setting is also mixed up. You play a detective in contemporary time, but you encounter a soldier dressed up in Civil War uniform and the characters you are rescuing from the demon Vaal are dressed in medieval garb?
If you can look past the weak storyline, this is a highly enjoyable game to play. I think it deserves a look or demo.

The latest Whispered Secrets installment is a classic example of an idea that is much larger than the game itself. The tale is a spin on the old Faust idea of giving your soul to the devil in exchange for something good. You play a detective investigating a string of disappearances in a town, and soon find those folks have disappeared due to a demon planning on harnessing their various artistic powers in order to be released into the world. Interesting setup.
There were little touches I enjoyed throughout the game, particularly the hand-drawn style animations which don't read like a regular hidden object search but cleverly are. The story itself is so-so, with the attempt made to insert two characters (one cute girl with crossbow, one animal helper, check and check) to aid you at various times. That's a good idea but ends up being obvious and infrequently used.
There's not too much to challenge you here if you've played these type of games before, especially dependent on your difficulty level setting. Even the hard setting won't take you more than a while. The challenges are mostly standard, and some of the item collecting seemed a bit lazy. When you find half the items you need for the puzzles you need them for in the same room, you're not exactly dealing with a huge map.
Artwork is okay. Voices are fine, though nothing wow. The animation sequences are decent and the sound is unobtrusive, though some of the effects are grating after a while, particularly the snoring of said animal companion. My other big issue here was the ending of the game, which featured an underwhelming confrontation with the demon after a lot of buildup.
Overall, there are worse ways to spend a couple of hours. The game does just about everything okay but seems like a rushed result to a bigger idea. I applaud the developers putting a new twist on a tired idea but think they made a devil's bargain themselves in that the result wasn't quite what it should have been. Solid, but nothing extraordinary here. Show less
