Welcome aboard, Emma Roberts, this should be the cruise of a lifetime, literally, you might be on board a lifetime! Reports of people boarding a mysterious cruiseliner and disappearing into thin air, have piqued this reporters interest. She boards what appears to be a replica of the U.S. Virginia, in Miami Florida, but this isn't a replica, this is the U.S.S Virginia, how can that be, she went missing in the 1930's! One minute the ship looks pristine, the next a bucket of rust, beautiful flowers wilt within seconds, seagulls fly right through the ships walls, as if it weren't even there! To make matters worse, there has been a murder on board, this investigation may prove to be more than this journalist bargained for!
This game might not be very "fearful" but it certainly has a fantastic story, a mixture of the love boat meets the Philly experiment! You begin this game as a simple Reporter, and advance up the ranks from Investigative Journalist to Special Correspondent. Every inventory item you find, every collection found and Morphing "seer" objects you spot, will net you points, you will even receive points for completing Hidden Object Puzzles and Mini Games. As the points add up, so does your ranking, you can even replay the game to get a better score, or challenge a friend.
There are 34 Morphing Objects to spot, and several Collections available within different categories, such as Lady Collectibles, Captain and Musician Collectibles and Postcards. The map will indicate that all Collectible and Morphs have been found in each location, with a gold star above that area. Some of the inventory items have Plus Signs which indicate that further interaction is needed before that item can be used such as combining two inventory items together or repairing the item.
The Hidden Object Scenes are very interactive and extremely well done. Some are progressive, silhouettes, requiring you to find the first item that matches the silhouetted shape shown, and then using that item in the scene to collect the next item and so forth. There are also interactive list finds, and smaller HOP's within zoomed in areas where you are tasked with finding 5 emblems. There is an optional Jigsaw Puzzle available in place of the HOP, which sounds appealing because all of the hidden object scenes are repeated at least once. The Mini Games seem fairly easy, at least within the demo, lighting the correct lights to duplicate the astrological sign as shown, or swapping tiles to their correct position to complete an image, by using arrows to rotate three different sets of tiles.
This Collectors Edition has Wallpapers, Concept Art, Screensavers, Music, Achievements, Collectibles, Morphing Objects, a built in Strategy Guide and a Bonus Chapter, enjoy! Show less
I recommend this game!

ALL ABOARD! ENJOY A "PHATASMATIC" MYSTERY CRUISE ABOARD A GHOST SHIP! The Fun Elephant returns us to the 1930's to solve a ghostly whodunit. The graphics are beautiful, realistic and reflect the period; the HOP scenes are innovative, varied and puzzle-like; you have the option to create a jigsaw puzzle instead of playing the HOP scene. This game contains an exciting new type of HOP scene I have not seen before. The puzzles are well-done and vary in difficulty. There are more HOP scenes than puzzles in this game. THIS IS A MYSTERY CRUISE I WILL NOT BE MISSING AND WILL BOOK PASSAGE IMMEDIATELY! A DEFINITE PURCHASE FOR ME!
HERE ARE THE DETAILS OF THE DEMO:
Did you board the right ship? Things are not what they appear on this ghostly expedition. You play Emma Roberts, journalist, who is out to investigate some mysterious disappearances from a cruise in 1930. Arriving at the dock, you board a ship which has taken you back in time, reliving the events of the disappearances and murder you are investigating. Under the Captain's nose, a love affair has blossomed between the Captain's daughter, Grace, and a pianist on the ship, Dylan. The captain's assistant, Nicholas, has found out about the dalliance between the two lovers and vows to tell the Captain. However, before he can confront the Captain with the news, Nicholas is murdered. As you investigate, all the evidence seems to incriminate Dylan; however, could someone be trying to plant evidence to frame him for the murder? Adding to the drama of this cruise, the Captain becomes imprisoned and someone changes the ship's course heading it toward a deadly reef. There seems to be a lot of hidden currents lurking beneath of the murky waters of this cruise. Hopefully all the underlying "currents" in this game will not take you off course in your investigation and you will return before you are proclaimed "missing" indefinitely.
LEVELS: Four
Casual - Sparkles - No penalties - Hint and Skip each - 10 seconds
Normal - Sparkles - Penalties - Hint - 20 seconds Skip - 35seconds
Hard - No sparkles - Penalties - No hints or Skips
Customized
Hints are designated : 10 to 35 seconds
Skips are designated: 10 to 50 seconds
GRAPHICS: Realistic an reflective of the time period of the 1930's. The voiceovers are well done.
INVENTORY: Interactive and puzzle-like.
HOP SCENES: Varied, Innovative and puzzle-like. To me, the HOP scenes were the best part of the game. You may play a jigsaw puzzle instead of the HOP scene.
The HOP scenes include interactive junk pile lists, silhouettes, and searches for items sequentially. There were instances of mini-HOP scenes combined together - locating a series of items with another list appearing after they are located.
This game introduced a new approach to HOP scenes. An item is placed in the center of the HOP scene missing parts which must be found in the background around the item. There were three instances of this type of HOP scene in the demo.
PUZZLES: All well crafted and innovative. There are variations of jigsaw puzzles, matching puzzles - matching up two halves of figurines , placing items into the correct locations, lighting bulbs to create constellations, fine tuning a television set, painting a picture, developing film . There are not as many straight puzzles; however, the HOP scenes are puzzle-like.
EXTRA GOODIES:
A. Earn points to move up the ranks of journalism
B. Collect 25 collectibles - 5 each for Lady, Captain, Musician, Postcards and Monster
C. Collect 34 Beyond objects - AKA seer objects
D. 11 Achievements
E. Map is provided after you get into the game. No interactive needed - it just appears
F. Morphing objects
G. Strategy Guide
H. Wallpaper, Music, Artwork, Screensavers, Bonus Game

The ship is now reappearing at various ports collecting unwary passengers and when it docks in Miami you hop onboard to investigate – big mistake! Travel with reporter Emma Roberts as she solves the mystery of the ghost ship and sets things back in order.
Of course the graphics are just what we would expect from one of the top game development teams, with great hand-drawn artwork and beautiful use of color that all blend to set the right ambience for this new mystery game. Along with the graphics we have lip synced voiceovers and an excellent sound package. I enjoy the creepy sound effects of the nasty storm that is whipping up at sea. Along with the standard modes of gameplay we have a custom mode but I do wish the developer would add actual time settings for the hint and skip buttons since “quick” might mean something different to me than to the developer.
We have an interactive transporter type map that is very helpful since this developer always happens to include an icon on the map so that we know we have found all the morphing objects and collectibles.
The various types of interactive HOPs are very much those that we normally see from this developer and those of you who play a lot of HOPA games will recognize them. It is nice that we have the option of completing a puzzle instead of hunting for objects in the HOS if we wish but I happen to enjoy the HOPS and will hunt for all the goodies. The puzzles seem a bit easy but they still are fun and require a bit of thinking.
In the CE you will collect points for finding beyond objects and collectibles (different sets of collectibles each containing 5 objects to locate), and earning achievements which all help you attain your status as an ace reporter. There is nothing earth-shattering in the remainder of the extras and they are what we expect to find in a CE game.
Although the game seems to start of a bit slow it does pick up by the end of the demo I was definitely left wanting more. It seems that the game is going to be very good and since I have never been disappointed with a game from this developer, I know it will be a good story and a very entertaining and long game. Although I take my time and don’t generally rush through games, I have found these games take me longer than some to complete. I know the game is an instant purchase for me but, as always, I recommend that you at least try the demo to see if this is a game you will like. Show less

There was a star map and one had to figure out which stars matched a constellation. Although we have seen this before, the way this one was done was different from others.
The Hidden Obj scenes have some new aspects as in one you have to change the screen picture to get to some of the objects.
There were morphing objects and a number of other collectibles that went to different categories that somehow related to getting on with the game, but I did not figure out if they were really needed. If they are, then how will the SE form compare? That question arises because I am not sold on this as a CE even though there is a lot to do and the game play is interesting. I did not feel that the puzzles really got me thinking...There is a model of a ship and one has to place pieces in their correct position...that was too simplistic for me to get any pleasure out of solving it...and my ego was not gratified when, having accomplished that, I got told I am a genius LOL. I liked better the puzzle that had me matching half of a figure to a known figure but that seemed rather random as I attempt to really find the elements that make one answer correct rather than it amounting to a bunch of guess work. One of my favorites was the one where one has to plan out how to get boat shapes into the correct slot. That actually took planning and strategy...those are the kinds of puzzles I like.
So as usual, I am asking for my friendly other fish to 'school' me when the SE comes out if the game play is up to par or if the CE is worth it in the long run.
I am going to wait to buy this game, but I will probably get it either as a CE or SE... Show less

This is definitely the best game of the series. I tried out SE and CE ... and eventually decided for the CE. It was too much fun to be upgraded through the game and eventually become „Journalist of the Year“. The game is fairly long as well as the bonus game which is a sequel to the main story and plays partly at the same places.
I highly enjoyed the HOGs. They are beautifully arranged, varied, creative and riddled with mini games. The scenes are played twice, but in a thoughtful, logical way. It's annoying when you return to a HOG, and all the items you collected beforehand, lay at their place again. Here they don't. For me is the distinctive mark for a good developer to create HOGs carefully and lovingly.
There is no killing of bugs or spiders, no animals are harmed, no biocide spray applied, and the one magical plant is defeated by a biodegradable concoction; I do appreciate this sensibility. I also liked that there are neither skeletons nor ghosts or witches, just normal, quite likeable people who even act lifelike, without the usual exaggeration. The coherent voice overs also helps the realistic impression.
But the main reason why I bought this game ist the music. I was blown away. I had in fact for the first time ever in a BF game the impression that there was a real composer at work. Not just one shallow, boring Muzak administrator as usual. These sound creations are pure bliss. Magical, mesmerizing and soothing, but still determined enough to be dramatic when needed. True music, at last. Of course I had to download all the sound files to my computer (glad I chose the CE), and now I listen to them non stop. Kudos to Alexey Arhipov! I suppose I must hunt now all the other games in which he was responsible for the sound :D Show less

The graphics are wonderfully crisp, clean, and clear and game mechanics are not too annoying as far as musical diddlies when you click on items.
The map is ok, not the greatest I've seen but at least it tells you where you need to do a task and is a jump map...that makes me happy as well :)
I love the ghost ship storyline and at the end of the demo it made me wanting to see it through.
So as far as I can tell of the demo, thank you for another wonderful addition to Fear for Sale :)

The storyline is a fairly new one. In the 1930's, 3 people went missing when the ship, named Virginia, disappeared while at dock. Imagine ..... a storm .... fog enveloping the ship .... lightning .... a fierce wind ..... and then .... the Virginia disappears right before your eyes! It's now "present day" and another ship, named the Virginia, has docked at the same pier. Is it a duplicate in every way, including the name .... or could it be .... the SAME ship ????? OH MY!!!! Shades of the Bermuda Triangle!!!
There are 4 difficulty modes: Casual, Normal, Hard (each shows you things like sparkles are on or off, how often your hint button recharges, etc.) and Custom (where there are several options you can change to suit your game play).
Graphics are sharp and very realistic. Even down to the numbers on the clock at the pier. The music was not creepy at all .... more ...... quite lovely. That's the best I can do. I would normally have listened to it throughout the game play but I had a terrible ear ache today and ultimately turned it off. That actually disappointed me. Voice overs were extremely well done. I had no problems either hearing or understanding the various characters.
There is a transportable map which not only shows your current location and where something needs to be done ... but ... a BIG yellow star will appear indicating you have found all the morphing objects in that area. How cool is THAT! There is a task list .... and you can work your way UP the ladder of journalist ranks by finding 8 items throughout the game. The tutorial offers you the choice of "full tutorial", "only on Special Features", or "No tutorial".
HOGS (hidden object games): 26 - extremely interactive and quite fun. Mini Games - 28 - I found them a variety of easy peasy to .... hmmm .... THIS is going to take some patience and perseverance (of which I have neither). lol
CE Bling:
Besides the customary Bonus Game, Strategy Guide, wallpaper, etc., there are the following:
Collectibles --- 25 total ..... 5 items in each of 5 categories.
Beyond Objects - 34 (another name for "morphing objects"?)
I think those at any level of experience would enjoy this game as there is certainly NO shortage of things to do as you move through the game play. It is high in entertainment value but not so "busy" that it takes away from the story. I very rarely give a game 5 stars but when I do it's a guaranteed purchase for me. I was hooked very early into the demo.
Join me in investigating the Virginia. Will we find answers or sail away to ..... the past?
