Wow! EVERYTHING about this game is different, in a good way! I love Out Of The Box Thinking, and who doesn't love jazz? (I wish the music played in the background as well) It's Mardi Gras in New Orleans and you are visiting your dad at the famous Jazz Pepper Club. A stranger in a white suit nearly knocks you down as he rushes out of the club and what you see inside stops you dead in your tracks! Everyone inside the club is frozen in a hypnotic state, daddy as well, was the stranger in the white suit responsible? You can choose from several modes of difficulty, Novice, Artist, Virtuoso, Maestro, or Improviser (custom settings). You can earn achievements and collect 44 hidden musical notes, there are several mini games such swapping tiles with musical notes so that they match up with the edges. There are mini games that you solve with information you receive or find such as unlocking daddys office/calendar lock in 3 sections with the month, day and year that you discover is when he opened the Jazz Pepper Club. The quality of the graphics are going to knock you socks off, blow your socks off! I can honestly say I've never seen characters so lifelike, so well done so detailed. The voiceovers are superior and the scenery pops! The story is different, mysterious and this is the kind of game that you just can't stop playing, you have to know more of this story, you have to find out who Frankie is and why he is targeting members of the Jazz band. I was most impressed with the uniqueness of the Hidden Object Scenes. You are shown a single word in an icon such as hat. When you find and click on the hat, it will roll over to expose a musical note that you click on. The next item will be an actual piece of an item such as 1/2 of a pair of sunglasses which you pick up and place into the scene with the other 1/2 of sunglasses and again a musical note is exposed. It was a refreshing change and very entertaining. There were also scenes that required you to pick up an item in the scene that was in color and place it correctly into the scene and that section would change from black and white, to color. My favorite HOS scene was one I haven't seen done before. Some of the items in the scene could be clicked on to uncover a specific item such as a single glove. You had to click on two exact items to match up the gloves, if you chose the wrong item, both items would close back and you would have to uncover two more items until all items were matched correctly! I love everything about this game, the genre, the music, the graphics, the scene interactions and the characters themselves. Fantastic job, Kudos and a huge Thanks to the devs for a game well done, it's obvious how much time and detail went into the making of this out of the ordinary game, enjoy! Show less

At first, I almost didn't even consider playing the trial because, so often, New Orleans is depicted in such a distorted manner with gross errors. Finally, I thought I would give it a try and what a wonderful surprise.
Secondly, it was refreshing to see characters of African American decent and/or Créole. I'm white and enjoy playing games with other races or nationalities depicted. Also, accents were more in keeping with ours around New Orleans.
Thirdly, what a pleasure to hear jazz music. The jazz club in the game reminded me so much of Preservation Hall in the French Quarter.
I'm probably somewhat biased in choosing my ratings. All sixes. The games and HO's were well balanced and the former were not too difficult. The variations of the HO's were varied and I found some were unique.
The game ran smoothly, voice overs were good, interesting, and helped the story line flow. Finding the music notes in scenes, and other specified things, was great fun.
The map that allowed you to transport to other areas, was well done and much appreciated by me. I had to use the hint button, on occasion, but not often and it worked well. I considered the graphics to be excellent and was pleased to see you could pick your level of difficulty and the skip button was available for games.
Hopefully, I've covered the major points and this will be helpful for others.
This, for me, is a keeper and will be played many times in the future. Show less

FIRST IMPRESSIONS
Even if you don’t like jazz, you’ll love it here. This game brings the entire world of jazz to life. An exciting, tight and self-explanatory intro sets the scene, and then here we are, a jazz club in New Orleans at Mardi Gras time. And before we even get out of the cab, the first of many innovations becomes apparent. Can you spot the difference?
SIGHTS & SOUNDS
The graphics are beautifully done, crisp and colourful, and drawn with real talent. There is plenty here to just look at. Maybe a little Picasso? The cut scenes are exceptional, with remarkably good facial movements of the characters, who are lip synced perfectly. The voices also sound authentic. The accents are just right. The music and singing fit the era. There are the sounds of preparations for the carnival in the background – great stuff like that. I think it is just marvellous.
WHAT’S HAPPENING?
We are heading home to visit our Dad at his jazz club in New Orleans, just in time for Mari Gras, 1941. But when we finally gain entry to the club, everyone in it is in some kind of trance, including our father! Did the guy who bumped into us in the hall have something to do with... whatever this is? We will need to find out a lot we never knew about our father to get to the bottom of this mystery.
GAMEPLAY
There is the expected mix of HOPs, puzzles and adventure in this game, although movement inside the game world is a little restricted at first. The puzzles tend towards visual ones, a misplaced objects diorama for instance, and various jigsaw-styled ones with new twists. There are the usual inclusions: a notebook for notes, objectives and achievements. A game timer. The hint is directional and the map is an interactive jump map, but so far, there's not much travel involved. Extra actions or combinations are sometimes needed within the inventory. There are four levels of difficulty, with the option to customize all the settings.
The really big departure from the norm, though, are the HOPs. There is one standard word list, but the scene is that Picasso I mentioned, which certainly makes it "artistic". *grin* Another is a matching pairs game that is totally unlike any other. And then there’s this game's new, totally original, HOP style. I won’t say much, or I’ll spoil the thrill of discovery, but it involves words, pix, and even a morphing object, all of which merely hide the true objects of your search.
CE BLING!
As I’ve implied, there are both collectibles and achievements in this game. The collectibles in the game locations are music notes, and an indicator tells you whether you have already found it in a location, or not. Likewise, the morphing object in the HOPs has an indicator that changes when it is found - and they're hard to find. These indicators cannot be switched off, as far as I could find. There are about a dozen achievements, represented by postage stamps in the notebook.
As for the rest, we can expect the usual. Bonus chapter. SG. Wallpapers, concept art, screensaver, music and videos.
COMBINED IMPACT
This game is outstanding. Original, involving and with top flight production values. I can’t wait to play and the full game is downloading as we speak!

These developers seem committed to making game play that is more creative and unusual; I never feel like they are just phoning it in.

“Oh it’s good to be back in New Orleans” is what our young heroine says in the opening scene and how I share in her excitement as soon as I hear the glorious sounds of New Orleans Jazz streaming from my computer. A spectacular game plays before me in Cadenza: Music, Betrayal and Death and after having completed the demo, I realize that this game will definitely rank amongst the top favorite for 2014.
Our story starts in New Orleans where sounds of betrayal and revenge become evident as our story begins to unfold under my fingertips. Upon return from School to my childhood home to visit my Father at his Jazz Pepper Club, I am confronted with a horrific scene where all the guests are turned into zombie-like creatures, frozen and seemingly dead, including my Father, Samuel ‘Papa’ Stirling, former band member of the Dixie Peppers. Evidence leads me into the darker side of New Orleans where the undead is seeking revenge and it is up to me to solve this tantalizing mystery.
I was totally blown away by the graphics, artwork and animations. I find myself enthralled with the music as I am a huge fan of Jazz from New Orleans. Excellent voice-overs with special effects tell me that the Developers have really raised the bar with this game. I loved the attention to details like seeing a car pass down the road as I survey the entrance of the club. Did I mention the music? I loved that song sang by Adele and the assortment of jazz tunes played throughout the game. How I have missed New Orleans and how exciting it is to feel its seductive energy within the game.
A very well composed HOPA game with excellent puzzles to solve, innovative and challenging Hidden Object scenes that require interactions with items and really cool mini-games, all combined to creating not only an entertaining gaming experience, but also challenging, not to mention having that WOW factor that we all look forward to.
Extra contents are plenty including customized settings for difficulty. There are collectables, morphing objects within HO scenes and trophies to earn. The game is a tapestry of colors, sights and sounds along with excellent game mechanics and tools that include a journal, jump map and a music repair room where you need to assemble instruments.
I could go on and on describing this game, but I am confident that after having played the demo, many will agree that this game is special, and because of the visuals and sounds, it does stand out as being a top rated game. Sale or no Sale, I am off to purchase and play it at my leisure tonight. See you all in New Orleans, the land of Jazz, Exotic love and Black Magic. Show less

Mad Head Games was quite sucessful with Rite of Passage 2 and Nevertales last year. So I was really interested to see if there's a possibility to top that again. And they did it again.
Before I start with the review something general. I'm playing many, many games and love many of them, but Mad Head Games are always something special, because there are new unique mini-games or Hidden Object puzzles inside. And nearly every developer seems to look at Mad Head to add new ideas to their games, because they seem to be afraid to experiment themself with new things. And that's why I soo love Mad Head Games. They try and experiment so much in their games, that it's always such a great feeling when you play them. I really hope more developers will try out new things, because I think we've seen enough of the same old things. Big Fish Studios always tried with their MCF franchise and every year (without mentioning 2012) these games are the best at BFG. So please devs, try and experiment!
Now for the game:
The storyline is wonderful. The Dixi Peppers were a very sucessful band until one of the members died. He wanted more money, like the other members, and they wouldn't want to grant him that wish. But now he seems to be back to take revenge on all his old band members. Is Frankie really back from the death, or has his brother, who's already been to a mental hospital behind all this.
There are some surprising moments and in the very end everything turns out.
Then the music, the graphics, the sounds. Just one word AMAZING! Wonderful graphics, fitting music and a feeling, like you're in New Orleans. Even the voice overs have a New Orleans feeling. Wonderful done!
The difficulty is very good here. There's a map, so there's not to much backtracking, but you visit every place more than once, and there's always something to remember. There are some inventory items, which stay there for a long time until you can use them.
The HO's are not too easy and there are more than 5 different kinds of HO's. Two of them are all new. Word and "Giving items back" and find hidden pairs. Also in every of the 24 HO's there's a Morphing Object.
There are many mini games, some of them are all new and some of them are very good animated. For example when you're trapped in a taxi or when you're underwater and you need to get up to the surface.
There are 44 collectible music notes, bronze, silver and gold achievements, a long Bonus Game, 44 collectible items, which unlock an extra HO's and a puzzle to restore a broken music store.
Afterall I needed 4 hours to complete the main game. Normally I need around 2 hours for a CE main game. So this game has it all. Excellent game and a big THANK YOU to Mad Head Games.
I can't wait for Rite of Passage 3 and Nevertales 2. Keep up the wonderful work!
