From Artogon, creators of Shiver: Vanishing Hitchiker, Shiver: Poltergeist, and Shiver: Moonlit Grove, comes another chilling tale!

It's your first day as head doctor of the Blackwill Hospital, but trouble starts before you even enter the building! A young woman collapses on the street, attacked by someone – or something. As you treat her, you realize she may be connected to your past... and you may be the only one who can save her from the strange illness that also claimed her mother. Only one thing is for certain - they never prepared you for an adventure like this in medical school!

Look I don't know why you all got negative just because you liked another game with the Shiver name as scarier. This game may not have made you shiver, but did it not make you search for a variety of well designed Hidden objects with all kinds of interactions? Were not the puzzles well thought out and a cause for working the little grey cells? Was not the story line rather scary with some menace changing people? Nothing was too ugly, but for those of you who do not like bright lovely places, well this was a bit seamier so ought to have fitted your desire for what you think is reality. I like pretty games and ones that have lots to do. This one was not ugly enough to turn me off and there was plenty to do. I especially liked the battleship game. The one to fix the lockpick was too easy, but still took a bit of arranging. The patient chart one was easy too, but getting to it was a bit of adventure. I liked blowing up the ball to effect one of the tasks...had not seen that before. I liked the way it began before asking for my name. I only played the demo but this is an excellent SE and I will be buying it unless I find that the CE is worth the extra...watch for my review of it and my decision as to which to buy.
I recommend you try it without any preconceptions and notice how many fun and interesting things there are to do in just the demo...if the game continues in that vein, it will provide a lot of brain exercise and fun figuring it all out. I really did like the HIdden object games in this one more than in most because there were more different takes on things to do than in most. They were not like the ones where you have to do one thing to get on to the next one, but there were a few like that and then others that were more direct, so the finding of things was more varied. The game was pleasant to go through because it progressed quickly in terms of finding things and getting into the next area. Just a good game with some really excellent aspects.
Some of you are just too hogtied to an idea based on a title. Show less
I recommend this game!

I bought the collectors edition so will review on that. I am very pleased with this game cause it keeps me entertained! Very fun game. The graphics are very good, nice colors, beautifully illustrated scenes, music is non intrusive, but still mystery oriented. The story line is to find out who or what is turning the women in this town into sirens. You are a returning dr. who was summoned to help the town to rid itself of these horrible creatures. The story is easy to follow, not confusing. You talk to people and are able to choose lines of dialogue you want to respond with. Also there are video clips you can watch over if you need to. Journal is helpful as is a jump map which shows places you still have things to do at. H.O. scenes are fun, using different types; unscramble the words, answer the riddles, silhouettes, etc. The in between puzzles are not too hard, some I needed to put my thinking cap on, but not my frustration helmet! You also have to look for pearls in the scenes including the h.o. scenes which you get to use to decorate your own house, very fun, there are several of each item to choose from! Also, look for aquarium items in the scenes to add to your fish bowl, that has a fish you get to name! There are achievements to be had too, some of the standards, like not skipping puzzles or h.o. scenes, finding things, etc. There is a bonus chapter in the c.e., not sure for the s.e. though. You can choose large icons if need be, and effects, music, and difficulty levels; casual, expert, or custom. There are a list of tasks to do in your diary and the c.e. has a good strategy guide. There are many wallpapers to choose from, very colorful ones. I think this game has a great replay value and I will replay and decorate my house differently each time! I am very happy with this game, give it a try. One thing I have not found out yet, why do all the ladies have the same hair color!? hhmmm... well, back to the game for me then! Have fun fellow fishies! Show less

The storyline was original and *very* interesting. The graphics and music were great. The voice-acting was superb. The Hidden-Object Puzzles (HOPs) were quite interesting and fun. Some of the non-HOP puzzles/mini-games were not that interesting, but most of them were pretty good.
This is unusual for me, but I would highly recommend getting the Collector's Edition, mainly because of its Bonus Chapter. In most Collector's Editions, such bonus chapters tend to take off on a tangent from the main game and seem to be there only because the developers seem to feel obliged to provide them as part of the Collector's Edition. Not so in the current game though! The Bonus Chapter in this game is actually fit to be called a last chapter, picking up where the main game had ended and providing a more complete conclusion. Thus, it is practically indispensable if you want to get the full story.
In the Collector's Edition, we also have a number of collectibles, of course - three (according to the Strategy Guide). I really enjoyed collecting the black Pearls, and it was fun to then use/spend them to decorate the room provided in the Extras section of the game. The game also asks you to collect the fish and then the various items for its aquarium; but picking the latter can be a bit cumbersome and I am not sure all the items you pick make it to the aquarium... The third collectible is actually not a collectible at all, even though it is called as such by the game's Strategy Guide. In fact, it is an Easter Egg, called an "Egg Basket," which simply asks you to find the developer's logo hidden in the game, and that is really easy to find indeed.
There were only a couple of things I didn't like about the Collector's Edition of this game. First, unlike most Collector's Editions, you don't get all the puzzles in the Extras section of the game. There are just a few mini-games, but that's about it. So if you happened to like a puzzle that you might want to play again, after finishing the game, you won't be able to do that, unless it happens to be one of the few mini-games provided in the Extras section of the game.
More importantly though, I didn't like the Achievements very much. For one thing, there are so many of them (48, to be exact, as you will see in the Achievements section of the Extras)! But then, some of them you get just for doing what you had to do anyway in order to proceed further in the game. Then there are some really silly achievements (for example, feeding the fish, using one of the Extras' game wallpapers and setting it on your own computer, etc.). And then, there are achievements that require you to do *opposite* things (for example, Skip the Tutorial vs. Finish the Tutorial), which is actually *requiring* you to play the game TWICE, because you can't get those opposite achievements in the same gameplay!
.
But then, these problems (replaying a puzzle/mini-game or getting all the achievements) are really just side issues, so to speak. As I indicated earlier, the game itself is really very good, and the Bonus Chapter alone justifies buying the Collector's Edition. And that is why

Lily's Requiem is just a mediocre, knockoff, not a bad game, but it certainly doesn't live up to Shiver expectations. This game lacks high quality graphics and the story just isn't scary enough to be a Shiver game, it lost it's Mojo! My favorite game in this series is the Vanishing Hitchhiker, but this game pales in comparison. The other games did a phenomenal job of connecting you to the game, you really feel as if you are all alone in an old abandoned town or searching old haunted rooms, or chasing down werewolves! The Lily's Requiem is a decent game, I just wish the devs would stick to the theme of the series, stick to the same creepy graphics, and above all, don't make me collect pet goldfish and redecorate my house, what does that have to do with a suspenseful supernatural thriller named Shiver??? (NOTE: available in the CE)
Dr. Robert Thompson has just accepted a position at the Blackwill Hospital, and this hospital is disgusting, which makes me wonder if he checked out the hospital before making his decision! It's not even his first day at work and and he's come across a nearly catatonic woman who has been attacked by something or someone. After a healthy dose of the doctors medicine, he finds out that this was no chance meeting, she had been searching for the good doctor, following him to Blackwill when she found an article in the newspaper. The victim is Beatrice Stanley, daughter of Kat Stanley, Dr. Thompson's former patient, is it possible that both women are victims of the Blackwill curse?
The Hidden Object Scenes are varied from silhouetted shape finds, to interactive list finds (after all these years I'm still partial to the old school list finds). The Mini Games are pretty good, although they have been done several times before such as using arrows to bend a paperclip in order to push lock tumbler pins to their correct positions marked with a red line on the pin, matching up to the red line on the lock itself.
The Collectors Edition has collectible black pearls throughout the game, hidden in zoomed in areas, and the scenes themselves, they are even located within the HO's. You will use these pearls to buy upgrades for your dilapidated house such as wallpaper, flooring, furniture and decorations. Each category will have several options and costs to choose from. The Collectors Edition also has a rescued pet goldfish, and you can change his name from Felix to whatever floats your fish. Oddly enough, you will also find random aquarium supplies, from decorations to fish food, laying conveniently around the town for you to acquire. Not a bad feature, just a bad choice of features in a serious thriller genre. The Collectors Edition has, Achievements, Collectible Black Pearls, Collectible Aquarium Supplies, Wallpaper, Concept Art, Videos, replayable HOP's and Mini Games, a built in Strategy Guide and a Bonus Chapter. I prefer this edition because the extras just seem out of place and distracting, enjoy! Show less

This one started out differently than most. You go right into a girl being chased and then passing out. I thought, "Great, I can't register for this one." Then, surprise, it takes me to the register screen. Nice little twist.
Graphics are nice and the people actually have believable voices and aren't comical. They were all enjoyable in their own part of the story and I especially liked the lead character. They seemed to put more emphasis on making her believable.
Story was a little slow at times until you persist long enough to get through everything. Luckily, I read through some of the other reviews and that helped me progress. If you have done everything else and you get to the window in the hospital that seems to be keeping you from advancing, don't panic. Look in your inventory and move to another room just outside the 'window' room. Hint, hint!
Music was great and added just the right amount of intrigue and the other sound effects were perfect.
I really couldn't find much at all to fault this game once I got into it and I may buy.
The HO's and puzzles were fun and offered just enough challenge to keep me interested but not frustrated. Only one that frustrated me and, because of time, caused me to skip was playing battleship with the man at his house. He's (computer) pretty good.
All things said, I would recommend this one to the casual HO player and I think you will like it. Not really for the dark and sinister players even though there are a few dark moments.

HOPs are mildly challenging, with several having list of objects with letters all jumbled, so you have to unscramble the word in order to find ( a puzzle within an HOP).
Puzzles are easy, but 4-5 are moderately challenging.
Hardcore mode disables hint & skip, but helpful messages remain, and you can change challenge level any time or set custom mode.
